I feel like us bisexual folks for some reason often start thinking we're actually asexuals, which is ironic, but it may be due to bad experiences with both sexes, which straight people don't have to endure romanticaly and/or sexually. So much so I ended up settling for demisexual and it seems to be the one that most fits my inner state of mind, I still say I'm bi cuz it sounds simpler tho lmao
I feel the same way. I think I’m technically pansexual and/or demisexual because even though I have crushes on both girls and boys, I’ve noticed that it’s only if I really like them as a person as opposed to just feeling attracted to their appearance. The idea of hooking up with someone is so strange to me.
@@caseygreyson4178 to me it directly correlates to sexual attraction, I can tell if someone's attractive even if I only see a picture of them, but I don't feel anything really, I can only analyze their looks and determine whether they're attractive or not, but I don't personally feel any attraction, while if I get to know someone, especially in person, regardless of how attractive I could initially find them, I end up liking (or disliking) them even on a sexual level, so basically, to feel sexual attraction I need to have a notion of that person's attitude and way of being rather than just looks, like appearance doesn't speak much to me
Y'all are making it kind of complicated. I'm gay, but I consider personality number 1. If you're nice that is the most attractive thing to me. What would I say, I'm a pansexual male-attracted person😭? Or just say I care about personality not looks? In my opinion relating that with sexuality doesn't really make sense.
@@EmberFlames_Jag this is something I was confused about for a long time, and it was why I identified as bisexual rather than pansexual. I thought the idea of ‘pansexual’ or ‘demisexual’ was unnecessary, because of course personality matters for everyone when it comes to attraction. Just because someone is not pansexual doesn’t mean they would date someone who treats them like shit, obviously.
But eventually I realized there was a difference between valuing personality, valuing it over looks, and valuing it while not even caring about looks/gender whatsoever. For me, I realized that I was pansexual because I am not attracted to someone at ALL because of how they look, or what gender they are. It is truly just who they are as a person, and it takes me a very long time to develop those feelings, and the more I get to know them, the more attracted I feel. And it’s not just about knowing them either, it’s about the content of their heart. I’ve noticed that while my friends describe their ‘type’ with physical characteristics, when I try to think of my “type”, I cannot even think of any physical features that I find ‘attractive’. Instead, I think of qualities like ambitious, compassionate, smart, etc.
If you are only attracted to the same gender as you, then you are gay. If it takes awhile for you to feel attracted to another man, and it requires an emotional connection to them, then you would be demi-homosexual. For me, I am demi-pansexual since gender does not factor into my attraction to others.
It’s totally okay if you don’t understand or cannot entirely relate. For a long time I didn’t understand either and yet I felt so isolated among many of my friends who were bisexual because I felt like we just experienced attraction differently. And even if you do understand and do relate, there’s no need to change how you label and identify yourself. Even after realizing I was pansexual, I continued to say I was bi because I felt like (and still feel like) people didn’t really understand what pansexual meant, and of course there was always that joke of “lol does that mean you wanna fuck pots and pans?” It just felt easier to say I was bisexual so I didn’t have to explain myself everytime somebody asked.
But eventually, I realized I wasn’t being true to myself, so I started identifying as demi-pansexual. And even if somebody else didn’t understand my identity, why should that matter to me? It’s my identity and my truth. And you know what? It *is* complicated! Love is messy and complex and beautiful. Do you really think such a mysterious and powerful force can be summed up by just saying straight, gay, or bi? It’s a spectrum with so many different facets and factors. There’s 8 billion people on this earth and you think each one falls perfectly into one of those three categories? Of course not.
You are more than welcome to keep identifying as gay, especially if that is the most accurate label for you!! But for me, the most accurate label is demi-pansexual and it’s the best way of identifying myself. And you are completely allowed to not understand, or think that I am over complicating things. But it’s what makes me feel the best, so I’m gonna keep doing it regardless.

@@caseygreyson4178 Alright, I can respect that. I do have a pansexual friend I used to talk a lot with in middle school. She said she liked "all" and personality and stuff. She is one of the nicest people ever so, I do genuinely believe a lot of people who identify as pansexual are very kind people. I most respect you for saying that we don't have to change our labels. Everyone can use a label in their own way. As long as this isn't being forced on anyone else, I am okay with it. You seem like a kind person, keep being you love. By the way, I also use "genderfluid" as part of my identity sometimes because I don't like the term "man" but I'm not a woman and not neither I'm just a mixture. Physically I look male (aside from my long hair), but mentally I am extremely feminine and don't feel at all like a man... So I get it. I also debate constantly in my mind if I want to transition once I turn 18 or not but it's very hard (my mother would never willingly let me do that). I always tell people I wish I was born a woman... That will never be the case. It makes me really sad because I feel if I was a woman boys would actually like me. (People tell me I look pretty, nice, etc. but never been in a relationship and usually boys don't tell me that). And many gay boys aren't attracted to what I am because I'm not exactly male presenting. Life is very hard and confusing and I just wish I had someone. To be honest, bi or pansexual people are probably the people who would be most attracted to me... and also bi/pan guys are usually my type compared to gay guys so 😭. Most the gay guys at my school are really short, twinks, and VERY feminine and gay while I'm the same except tall and a very quiet person. Anywaysss sorry for the rant
