In 1998-99 I saw Jeff open for Steve Forbert at the Towne Crier in New York. Had no idea who he was but his performance was brilliant. Apparently Jeff had to catch the train back to NYC after his set so I missed him selling any CD's. I asked a guy who worked at the club if he had any and he handed me his lone copy of "Cedar Grove". One of those moments in life you don't realize the impact and how you will remember it forever. This song, "Throw it All", the masterpiece of a brilliant album - with me to this day only because of the night the Music Gods looked down on me while Jeff Lang ran for his train back to New York City.
I've seen Jeff live several times at The Basement in Sydney and at Bluesfest, and this has always been one of my favourites - a perfect mix of masterful guitar and beautiful lyrics. Seeing this performance from earlier in his career brought back memories and serves as a reminder of how far he's come. To anyone who hasn't checked out his recent work: DO IT! NOW!
I remember seeing this Talented Man Jeff Lang playing live at the Plantation Hotel Coffs Harbour as an unknown in the 90,s he blew my mind then & still does to this day..
Met him several times here in the states, Winterhawk Bluegrass festival, family stage I was sound and support, then several times in Gt. Barrington Mass.. The real deal..Such an emotional force of musical nature...This and Batemans Bay....
I remember Jeff in his" Shatter" days @ the Waurn Ponds hotel in Geelong when he used to annoy the DJ with his wireless guitar playing in the next room..... He had a lot harder edge to his music then....An absolutely awesome guitarist!!!
Nice sounding guitar. He's new album Chimeradour is a great album! His lyrics are great too. He has certainly become one of my favorite musicians. I remember 10-15 years ago he used to play just around the corner from where I lived, at the Star Hotel Newcastle, but I never went and saw him. It is hard to believe they would used this entire song, with its length, for a segment on a morning show.
this is one of my favourite songs of all time anybody no of some sheet music or tabs that exist? i tried contacting him on his site but i never heard back. i would like nothing more than to be able to play this.
Hayden Farrier I saw Jeff in his early days, and along with my mate, told the girl I think this is about, about him. She was with my mate, but came to his gig, and they started a relationship soon after. She would talk about how he landed at her door after being on tour, and about their long distance phone calls. She has wild hair, dark brown eyes, and was always captivating... quite special and nostalgic to think about it, but even before her, we were fans, and got to see him regularly in his developmental stages. Thanks for the memories Jeff, still one of the best live acts ever...
Capo is the correct word. It looks to me like on is on the 5th fret of the 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd and 2nd strings, yet the 1st string has the capo at the 3rd fret. I.e. different notes are created by strumming (and/or picking) without using his left hand.
OK,OK, Jenn, lets not get carried away, he's a good loooking bloke but really, musical references are always so much more complimentary than sexual ones! I think this goes back to the year I first saw this man doing a show, in Monaghan, Ireland, in 1996. Suffice to say he's brilliant, and I hope he comes back to Ireland real soon.
I realise not the place to talk about this, but others might wanna know :P Are there special capo's that can skip strings? I.e. you said that one is on the 5th fret for the E and D (etc) strings, but obviously doesn't cover the A string somehow. (My capo can only cover touching strings, it cannot skip ones)
As an Aussie I am Disheartened with the Australian music industry when they support John Butler but Jeff lang has to spend more time overseas. What are they thinking isn't there enough to go round for all the greats
Hah, I seriously thought this was a troll at first. Then when I realised it wasn't, I was somewhat suprised that you admit that. Now I just continue to laugh. In case you don't already realise, if you get the chance to say this to him... don't. Even a normal guy would feel slightly odd about it at first (then turned on probably :P), however, he's not a normal guy.
Nobody feels more deeply than Jeff Lang, and nobody conveys it to the listener with anything like the same intensity. Genius.
Gosh I love this track. Early Jeff is still my favourite. This one has always given me all the feels.

His Chicago show last night was incredible. Jeff Lang is the best. Nobody plays like him.

Amanda McGregor he influenced them!
@Maverician yes there is, I don't have the name of it, but antoine dufour uses a capo that he can adjust on the fly to skip certain strings.
@amanderruth He's one of John Butler's influences
john butlers still awesome just this guy did it first

Yes. It's like a bridge with 6 seperate cams you can lever down.
