it is completely incomprehensible to me how so many readers don’t see the politics in books?? bad politics are definitely one of the biggest reasons why i can dislike a book, and one of the biggest reasons to why i can really love a book. thank you for speaking about this!!
I agree, reading is inherently political and to not think that as a reader is just so wrong 😭 it also makes or breaks a book for me too!! thank you so much for your comment and for watching ❤
LITERALLY LIKE it shuts down all forms of communication because people are obviously going to be worried about people’s mental health. but don’t use mental health as a shield to pretend like you did nothing wrong.
i can't tell you how many creators i've unfollowed or unsubscribed to because of how much they were promoting these authors. Creators you thought were educated and aware because they can recognise themes of oppression in fiction but somehow can't stand against injustice in real life?? it's all very frustrating. I'm grateful that you use your voice and platform to spread awareness, i will work hard to do the same.
I completely agree with you and it's really great that you chose to voice it. I recognise as a reader because I am commited to learning continuously and as much as it seems stupid social media does have a huge impact on people and can greatly shape their vision, I remember starting reading for literature and history but booktube really influenced me to read other genre which is not a bad thing but you read to learn and you need to be able to differentiate between right and wrong and you can't blindly choose aesthetics over value and morale. People sympathise and cry and rage over fictional characters but fail to recognise the cruelty when it comes to reality, I mean how much more of a hypocrite you can be and if you're not very sure about something, you have to educate yourself before you speak. I myself have iron flame with me (somebody gifted it to me and I appreciate their gesture and I wasn't aware of Rebecca being zionist) but I choose not to sing praises of someone who promotes genocide. I understand I was late but you learn from your mistakes and people take stupid things seriously (getting riled up just because someone enlightened you in the comments) and choose to ignore the real catastrophe.
I completely agree. It’s so disappointing seeing creators care more about aesthetics and followers than genocide. Books since the dawn of time have been political in some nature.
"How can you seperate the art from the artist when the art is the artist reflected in the writing?" right on the nail with that one. especially when the author supports genocide. there is no seperating the art from artist
Hey don’t tryna be rude or anything I’m just wandering… I still don’t understand that. Yeah it sucks that the artist ignores what is happening but what does that have to do with the book?? Buying books does not promote genocide, and does not change my mind about it so why all this pressure?. A post of an author saying they do not support the issue isn’t going to change the world, in fact majority will not care.
I had no idea about Iron Flame. I was never a big fan of overly popular books because it was always more of a hype, than it was good. My instagram has been flooded with Iron Flame marketing and I haven't seen not one post about the author being a Zionist; except for this video. It's sad to be honest, it really is.
We live in a selfish world, people only care about what personally affects them, like you on this case, but you can't expect everyone to follow, read, post what you want, everyone can post what they want on their own profiles. War and situations like what is happening right now have always been around in this world, most people just want to focus in what makes them happy, and reading/bookstagram sometimes is an scape from the ugliness of the real world.
I know not everyone will listen to what I have to say but that doesn’t mean I can’t make a video about it letting other people know. but I don’t believe in “making someone happy” when it comes to wanting to read a book by authors who support genocide and want to separate the art from the artist.
I feel sorry for you and truly empathize with your struggle as one of the minority groups in the world. Often, our voices are not just unheard but outright ignored. For minorities who are suppressed in a country, or small nations whose sovereignty is constantly threatened by larger, or more powerful nations, taking severe actions in a war or even initiating a war is not only a tragedy but also an act of ethnic cleansing. That sin has brought shame on them.😢 By the way, I bought a book from the Kinokuniya bookstore at Dubai Mall when I had a short stay there a few months ago. It's really nice to see that they have a clear section for Middle Eastern writers, and that's how I found this book which caught my attention. As a slow reader, it will be in my TBR for next year. The book is called 'Gaza Weddings' by Ibrahim Nasrallah. Currently, I'm reading 'Ten Myths about Israel' by Ilan Pappé. It seems like this writer has a controversial reputation after this book was published, and I'm curious about a different perspective from an author whose work is not welcomed by his country.
thank you so much for your comment, and hopefully our voices will be heard as the days go on 🫶🏼 those books sound really interesting! are you enjoying the one you’re reading right now?
It’s the same situation with Russian skaters, that are not allowed to take part in skating competition. So many people doesn’t see that supporting Putin should also face the concequences (sr for my English, it’s about the message)
BookTubers and really any TH-cam channel has the right to keep their channel non-political, current affairs. Just because a youtuber does not say anything on their channel does not mean they dont have views. They probably have views on a lot of things and you have no idea how they might be supporting things in the real world outside of the TH-cam sphere. Can you imagine if someone inserted themselves on your channel and stated you were for genocide in Congo because you have said nothing about it?....or that you must be against the Afghan people because you have said nothing about the 1.6 million Afghanis being displaced in Pakistan? Or maybe you are for the genocide of the Uyghurs because you have said nothing about them? According to your philosophy here, your silence on those subjects must mean you just dont care....The world sucks and there will always be atrocities because humans are terrible to each other. If you want to discuss what you believe on your channel then I think you should...but to say because people arent talking about the subject in their youtube world that most troubles you...then that makes them terrible is a bad take.
the biggest point i’m making in this video is that it is disrespectful and gross to be promoting zionist authors / ignoring people who are telling you it’s harmful to promote them and still doing it. i’m not talking about youtube either, my video is about booktok and bookstagram, because communities over there were complaining about people posting about palestine and not books. I have posted about a myriad of other issues in the world, because I believe it’s important to spread awareness. I also said in my video that you can believe that influencers don’t have to post, but with the way they are acting in this specific instance, with ignoring people asking them to stop promoting zionist authors and complaining that bookstagram and booktok have become “too political”, I think that’s wrong, and that’s all i’m saying in this video. I never said youtube, because it is harder to make content on youtube about certain subjects, i’m talking about booktok and bookstagram because that’s where all of these issues are. people have the right to believe influencers do or don’t have to post, and i’m just giving my opinion on the matter.
That's kinda wierd to say. You can't judge an entire religions books just because of the actions of some Jews. And what authors should you actually read then because I can think of many atrocities committed by any race and religion on earth for the past 10 years.
@@davidfrederiksen3185we’re not judging a religion based on books..we’re saying books by zionist authors. you can choose who you want to read from regardless of what they do and who they are as people but me personally I will not be supporting or reading books from authors that are zionists.
@@haleykalona I said you judge a religions books based on the actions of some members of the religion. But by that point would you also not support muslim authors based on the horrible acts committed by some members of their religion. Or African writers do to the horrible acts committed by Ethiopia. Or most western authors do to the horrible acts done by the west. So as I said acting like Jews are the problem and not specific members is what leads to racism sexism and in many cases genocide like what happened doing world war 1 and 2 the Armenian genocide and so on
Keep politics out of authors book profiles. Your politics aren’t always right and to millions of people you’re wrong too. Who cares about authors politics? If you’re that shallow you got a LOTTTTT of maturing to do
genocide isn’t a matter of politics. and reading is inherently political, which I touched on in this video. you SHOULD care about authors politics…or even them being a decent person who doesn’t support genocide. it’s actually very shallow of you to disregard the opinions that these authors have that are harmful and racist.
My apologies, I don't think you are of the fact that books are one of the best ways of propaganda and awareness but I won’t talk to you bout it since you seem to be the kind of person who is too immature and surrounded in the world of fantasy to notice the importance and purpose of this world. Not a true reader.

Also, Fourth Wing, a book about war was release during at a time where there is war between Rusia and Ukraine going on, with many innocents dying, and you supported that book, like it, and share it with your followers, so you are only against it now that it personally affects you, like the rest of the world, you only care about an issue once it personally touches you, can't blame other people for being the same as you were.
talking / reading a book about war when there’s a war going on is NOT THE SAME THING as supporting an author who writes about war who supports genocide. like why are you conflating two things that have nothing to do with each other. my issue isn’t people reading and talking about books about war. my issue is people promoting books by zionist authors no matter the subject matter.
