  • The original version of this song is by Eternal (Christian Savill's pre-Slowdive band)
    🎧I mixed the tracks in stereo, put on your headphones for a better experience🎧
    For the rhythm parts, the tuning is D# A# C# F G# G#. For the lead parts, you can either keep the same tuning or tune the 1st string to B, making it D# A# C# F G# B. I did this to make it easier to hit the highest G# note on fret 21 without bending (Check out the timestamp 3:13 for reference).
    All credit belongs to "Slowdive" and their respective owners, I do not claim any right over them.

    Great job , what kind of guitar pickups do you recommend for this kind of music
    H or S ?
    Also what kind of electric guitar do you recommend for this genre of music? Is a strat any good for it ?

    • @EchoesAndFrets
      @EchoesAndFrets  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks ! This is a difficult question to answer since there's a wide range of guitars and pickups used in the shoegaze genre. For Slowdive, Christian switched from using a Strat (which he mainly used in the past) to a Jaguar or Jazzmaster for rhythm, while Neil explores various guitars like Rickenbacker and Epiphone's hollow body guitars for warmer lead tones. Ultimately, it depends on your preference. Jaguar or Jazzmaster are often favored for rhythm in this kind of music, while a hollow-body guitar with not too hot p90 or hum pickup can be a good choice if you prefer a warmer tone. Anyway, this is just my opinion, there's no fixed formula, so find the gear that helps you achieve the sound you're after, I personally use both single coil and humbucker for this kind of music. And regarding a Strat, I can say that it will do the job all well, the Strat I'm using in this video has an HSS configuration (I replaced the S bridge pickup with mini hum instead). Hope this helps, enjoy playing my friend!

      Glad to hear that you love the cover and discovered shoegaze artists. I dropped off from playing guitar for like 10 years before rediscovering my passion for it again through the shoegaze genre. I hope you will start playing the guitar soon buddy, be able to play the songs you love can make you more into it. Best of luck to you!

    • @EchoesAndFrets
      @EchoesAndFrets  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much! I've usually used 10-46's for my Jazzmaster, including in this cover. However, I recently switched to 10-54's for a thicker low end.

    Rad! Just wanted to know what you used on the lead tracks - reverse delay and reverb I suppose?

    • @EchoesAndFrets
      @EchoesAndFrets  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Ian, thanks for watching! For the lead tracks, I used a Proco Rat 2 pedal (with a light distortion setting) > Cab sim+DI pedal > Zoom MS-50G with a Soft Focus patch to kill the dry signal, and stacked it with a Boss RV-6 set to 'Modulate' for extra ambiance. I think any reverb pedal that can go 100% wet is key to getting that synth-like guitar sound on Slowdive's songs.

    • @EchoesAndFrets
      @EchoesAndFrets  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks, bro! For the clean part, I used Fender Blacktop Jazzmaster into > Cab sim+DI pedal (made by a local store in my country) > JHS 3 series Chorus (with a low rate but high depth setting, If I recall correctly). For the lead parts, I used Fender Blacktop Jazzmaster and Squier Strat into > Proco Rat 2 (with a light distortion setting) > Cab sim+DI pedal > Zoom MS-50G with Soft Focus patch to kill the dry signal > and finally, stack the MS-50G with Boss RV-6 on the 'Modulate' setting.

      Thanks a lot! I'm not sure about the chord names since this song uses a very weird tuning. However, please try searching for another cover of this song. There will be a cover that includes tabs in the description (The channel name is Matt).

    love this! could you give the tuning you used and the chords possibly?

    • @EchoesAndFrets
      @EchoesAndFrets  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you! The tuning is D# A# C# F G# G# for the rhythm parts and for the lead parts you can keep the same tuning or you can tune the 1st string to B, so it will be D# A# C# F G# B for the lead parts. I tuned the 1st string of lead parts differently just to reach the highest G# note on fret 21 easier without bending, please watch 3:13 for reference.

      I don’t know if you’ve got the chords figured out or not yet, and I don’t have a list of them sorry, but the two highest strings are always open I think. Otherwise you can hopefully figure it out from the video

      Hello again. Somehow I unintentionally overlooked where you asked me about the chords. I'm really sorry for that. Thanks to Marley's reply, I was able to see your question again from the notification. I learned the chords from another 'Sleep' cover video by a channel named 'Matt.' Please check his video out, the chords will be on his video's description, and just like Marley mentioned the highest strings (1st G# and 2nd G# strings) are always played open.

      Hello! I understand that it can be difficult to learn with the track on. However, my main goal with these cover videos was just to have some fun playing along to the songs I love, not to create guitar tutorial videos. However, I'm happy to help if you have any specific questions or if you're stuck on any part of the song. Thanks for watching

    Great but this isn't a Slowdive song, it's by Eternal originally.

    • @EchoesAndFrets
      @EchoesAndFrets  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for pointing that out! You're correct that the original version of the song is by Eternal. I used a Slowdive version of the backing track for my cover and decided to name the video accordingly. I've already added Eternal's name to the description to give credit where the credit is due, I appreciate your information and thanks for watching :)
