I agree Jack nice review! I use the Moxie, Studio Daydream and a Soul Food on my board. Great diversity whether using my AC30, Blues Deluxe or Black Magick amps.
@@JackFossett No, definitely not marshall in a box style. Hmmm, hard to describe because it has switches that drastically alter it's sound. It's my dual overdrive and fuzz pedal when I gig, flip a switch and it's a killer fuzz. But the overdrive in particular is excellent with the AC30 style. It's based off an old pedal called the expandora or something, but it's great highly recommend.
Oh cool - yeah JHS building something inspired by some rare old find sounds more right. Fun fact - I've barely ever played a JHS pedal in my life. I briefly tried one on a friends board (I think the Andy Timmons one) - they just for whatever reason haven't come across my path.
@@JackFossett They're everywhere in my area, so much so that I have avoided them to not follow everyone else but the Kilt has been fantastic and a big part of my sound lately.
@@YeatzeeGuitar Im jonesing for a Unicorn myself. I also want to grab a Morning Glory as I'm a big Bluesbreaker fan and that one has been very highly regarded for a long time.
The Vick Audio Mount Pleasant sounded best to my ear (with the Moxie getting an honorable mention) with both the Strat and the SG. You got a smooth growl of overdrive with excellent note articulation in both cases. I haven’t gotten ahold of any current AC30s. A friend advised me to keep my eye out for an AC30 “Custom Classic” from circa 2010. He’s a technician and he said he’s speaking from a dependability standpoint, but I’m chasing a mid-60’s AC30 sound.
Blackstone Appliances Mosfet OD has some great tones through a Vox. A side by side with my Hot Cake had me having both on my board as the tones from both were hard to live without😂👍 😎✌👍❤🖖
Love these ones, straight question, straight down to brass tacks. Gotta say, every time I've compared my OD-3 with other "boutique" pedals it almost always comes out if not #1, close to it. Especially good for the AC15C1 & Blues jnr pedalboard (made to suit both amps together or alone). The Mount Pleasant sounded fantastic!
When i had my Vox I liked the Rat and the Way Huge Green Rhino mkiv. The Rhino was more mid pushed and the Rat with lower drive was not as much. They were a good pair to use together too.
I used a Blammo Zap Master for most of my live set. It really is true: they were made for each other. I use that, a rat and a fuzz and cover a lot of ground.
Pedals with pronounced mid-humps such as Tube Screamers don't always sound great through a vox-style amp. However, we also have to remember that brad paisley sometimes uses tube screamers and tube screamer style pedals (with the high end added back in) into a vintage vox.
I find one can avoid adding the wrong kind of dirt form an OD by eliminating the OD part of the pedal. The Coppersound Gravity Bomb Booster v2 lets you add a 750 kH or a 1kH to the sound. The 1kH being the Tube Screamer poke. Then you get that poke without dealing with a pedals often less than stellar added dirt. A kind of have your cake and eat it too pedal. At $130.00 USD a pop it is priced to get permission for a spot on your board.
A Treble Booster :)

they all sound good, but the Vox has a special magic when using overdrives in the bluesbreaker vibe (King of tone, Morning glory) and Timmy.
I agree, I've always like Vox circuits with Bluesbreakers
The OD3 sounded great on the AC
The OD-3 is a stellar choice for just about every amp, including the AC30.
That's why I bought a second one lol
Personal favorites thus far with my Hayseed 30 would be the JHS Kilt, Boss SD1, and green side of the protein (nobles ODR). Great vid Jack
Kilt is kind of a Marshall-esque drive, right?

The CC2s were great amps. My first AC30 was a CC2 with the Wharfdales and I loved it. In fact I want to get another one someday.

I like the nobles odr-1 reissue a lot for it. Can sort of achieve that Brian May sound imo

Treble Booster into Crowther Hotcake is a great tone.
All your plying was great, Jack. But, man, I like that Mount Pleasant. The OD-3 was great, too. (I have one of those, gladly.)
Thank you! I like both of those as well.

3 really good cheap/underrated od's that work really well with ACs: Way Huge Saucy Box & Green Rhino, Mad professor sweet honey pcb
I love Way Huge pedals. Totally agree. I bet the STO would be a great one also.
@@JackFossett I just looked up the STO, I didnt know it was Tripp's take on the ODR1, I always thought it was just a saucy box with different artwork😯
Tom Petty was also famous for using the Red Llama - presumably into an AC30?
@@JackFossettPetty is known for using the Red Llama, but all the classic Petty and Mike Campbell tones were recorded before the RL even existed.
Hotcake, I’ve used this pedal for such a long time with the AC30 as well as the Trainwreck Rocket
Van Diemens Red Ochre Deluxe, an awesome treble booster!
Crowther Hot Cake!
i personally enjoy usin od3, carl martin panama and revv g3
Crowther hotcake and Mad Professor sweet honey deluxe
Wgat about ORD1?
Boss
Few amplifiers beat a Vox for those crunchy tones.
Crowther Hotcake

AC30 would also just generally work great with boosts overall I think. I mean, thats very similar to the whole Treble Booster idea.
I'm not shure Its considered an overdrive but a Rat pedal is great with a Vox.
I have a rat clone that offers a Turbo Rat mode with LED clipping that works especially well at low gain as an overdrive on my Vox Pathfinder 15r
...I'll allow it
12 min of taking in a 15min OD shootout vid bro!!! Wtf
Vox is not for me, and a strat through a vox is defo not for me. 🤣
Can we really call CC2 an AC30? I think that everything post VOX AC30TB or AC30TBS is undecipherable.
It’s the AC30C2 not the CC2
