This is crazy, there's so much to take in here. I say this is the "New" pilot because I think this may have been the first animated pitch pilot test for the show, but it's new in the sense that we're only seeing it now.
Not to mention how PRETTY it is???

Indeed. The pilot's animation is very smooth all the time whereas in the official series while it still looks really great, you can tell that they where set back with the budget aside from the intro, fight scenes and a few others.

Interesting how she says King USED to know magic. So there definitely was plans for King to have such a significance (possibly).
Now he has a “bigger” significance imo
I do like the ideas this showed off and how it led to the final product of the show, I think they hit the mark
I think he told her so because he thought he used to be the king of demons.
Keep in mind that King was a compulsive liar who insisted he was a terrifying warrior king who everyone feared until he lost all his powers. That is likely what was being referred to.

Things I noticed:
• The "newer" one had more thicker outlines.
• It also is more vibrant and saturated than the old one.
• And expressions are more on point as well.
• Aside from that, we can see that the team definitely improved by looking at both versions.
I also noticed that the artsyle is different, but seems like they used the artstyle of the old pilot for the current show.
It seems the “old” Pilot is unfinished compared to the “new”. I guess it must be the finished animation.

Even though these are both pilots, they have noticable differences with the new one feeling a bit more "alive". Also, I don't think Willow's old name would've stuck for me like her current one does.

The owl house was a shop that makes more sense than her going to a city where she wanted.

That's actually not an older pilot, it's the only one! This one is the "Next Time On", essentially showing Disney what the show *could* be. Think of it as an alpha version, where as the original one we saw was the *actual* pilot episode.

The mirror demon in full color is so frickin awesome and the rest of the pilot is too. Honestly wouldn’t mind an original episode based on the early concepts from the pilot
0:30 just realised here that the “old pilot” one where King’s eyes are closed we see that that his eyelids are like the skull
in the “new” one though we see that his eyes are a lot more like how we see him have in the series. It’s also interesting to see how much better the first one looks compared to the old pilot (my opinion)

I think what may happen here (THEORY) is that the no audio was probably the first one with a test animation (probably to surface what they think looks good) then the voiced version must have been the pilot sent to the execs (notice the smoother animation and the unfinished theme song with more emphasis on the kick and snare). Either way I might be wrong HAHA
it looks like the one on the right is more polished one however it has a slightly different style to the official Owl House. the animation in the one on the right with no audio is closer in style to the current Owl House

I think the old pilot is more similar to the art style that we see now! It's interesting to see how much the voice actors changed their delivery as well, especially eda

The pilot is absolutely stunning. Both the pilot and OG show have such great animation.
Hope we get a full pilot episode one day.
So in this version, static electricity was a byproduct of using magic. A sort of physical display, while it is pretty cool, I still prefer the canon version it's more clean and smooth.
I find it very interesting how despite these being the same test footage there seems to be differences between art styles and animation between both versions.
Like kings eyes & expressions being animated differently at 0:27 or Luz having fingernails and more FX animation on the "old" version (1:40) and her eyes and character animation being completely different at 1:44
Really make you wonder which one was finished first and whether or not the "new" version that we got is in fact the final one
The highlight of this-for me, at least-is seeing the Luz puppet *_(flagged for animated worms)_* fully animated and colored.
Glad to see Dana got to do the puppet thing she's wanted to do since the beginning. Albeit it's different, at least she still got to put the puppet idea in.
I also like how they originally had an idea for Luz to use magic with her hands at one point, but I think it’s cool how it ended up
A lot of cool details to found in here that are interesting and give a lot of how the show could’ve turned out and then what we got instead, and honestly, it worked out

I knew some of those scenes looked different! It's been a while since I've seen the first version though so I couldn't put my finger on how, other than the new scenes obviously.
I guess the short, silent version was a work in progress then, something quickly edited together to show someone at Disney while they were still finishing up?
Eda sounds more rough like Stan Pines, Luz is ever-determined, 'Pollina' seemingly had Willow's issues of fixing everything from the start, and King seems to be more furious than usual. Also Eda made bank in this pilot with the Owl Shop.
This is clearly still the same show though, with the love and passion shining as bright as it does with the normal show.

This would have been a pretty interesting concept I have to admit even though I love the show as it is now obviously but this would have been pretty good too
I still can't believe King's original color scheme was this. It's honestly a bit disturbing when it comes to the eye color in comparison to the final of King's color scheme.
Interesting, this would mean that the "old pilot" is still partially lost, now knowing that they've made two versions. The most recent found pilot looks like it came first in production though, and the partial one is a revised version that is getting close to the final style they chose to work with.
Maybe, but more likely the old one was test animation while the new one is the version pitched to Disney. They probably had to scale down the animation for the actual show.

I'm glad to watch the new version of the pilot and that without losing quality, it still retains the charm of the show, fusing the satire of classic fantasy with the weirdness of the setting to create first-rate humor.
Puppet Luz is legitimately terrifying, and with the current puppet thing that’s going on right now, it would be a perfect fit for Luz to have to fight a puppet clone gone wrong, like the collector was trying to make a replica, and failed. That’s probably just my sonic fan showing tho
I would probably love this show either way. the version that we have now has some competition. They probably had to change the bed because of some of the slightly more graphic images like that weird puppet with the worm monster coming out of its mouth.

One thing i noticed is the details like different expressions and the lighting in some of the scenes is different.Also, some parts of the "old" pilot seemed to have smoother animation compared to the "new
its crazy how some scenes are different by like 2 percent. like certain hand placements and movements. not to mention how some scenes have like ever so slightly different backgrounds.
Ngl I like that they changed King’s design, because if you told me our King was a titan before the reveal, I would be like “uh, what?”
But if you told me pilot King was a titan I would be like “yea I can see that”
It’s smoother and like I would love to see how it would turn out if that’s was the final product but the owl house look good in the actual final product too

So, to me at least, it looks like the magic originally was a lot closer to being just kinda general fantasy magic, a little more random, and less fleshed out, instead of what we got with the show. Also Eda sounds like a middle aged woman from Jersey in this.

I noticed that the new pilot artstyle is different, and the old pilot is actually the current artsyle for The Owl House, I wonder why they chose the artstyle of the old pilot.

Not going to lie I'm really digging prototype kings vibe
Magic works differently in this version, there are no spell circles, King USED to know magic which implies that the magic Eda uses can't be taught to Luz. It seems the vague idea for Glyphs or what would later be called Titan Magic was there, just not fleshed out yet. OR it was more like King was able to use a magic that humans could learn (for vague reasons for his true Titan lineage to be revealed later) and the type of magic that Eda and Willow/Paulina were capable of was an evolved or different form of that magic. Which is pretty much exactly what we got in the main series.
Other things to note: Willow/Paulina wears her outside of school outfit, Luz and King's designs, Willow uses a wand that looks similar to Amity's training wand but it snaps and can't focus her spells properly.
The sleeping prince character that was probably what Hunter ended up becoming is interesting. Originally Belos had a different name and motive so it seems like Hunter wouldn't be related to him. He would instead possibly be a separate reoccurring character that would eventually help Luz like Hunter. Maybe even giving Luz information on how to defeat Belos eventually.
The biggest difference is the establishing shot of the world at the end. The place could have been still called "The Boiling Isles" but it seems like they are not on the Titan. Plus the main town seems way smaller. I wonder if King would have still been a Titan, but just in a "he lost his power" kind of way. Just how when we were first introduced to him, we thought he actually did lose his power and turned into that adorable young Titan.
They should continue this idea but as a alternate universe or some thing similar
My favorite has to be King slowly losing it before going "NOW FIGHT!!" Or when Luz is riding the... unipider....spidercorn....idk what it is, but I wanna know more about that species
They confirmed it's not a pilot. It was a pitch screening. An animated trailer so to speak to show the execs what a show might look like.

You can definitely tell that edas voice is less sassy and kings voice is more deep
Alright so from what I can tell is that the show was originally gonna have a more darker tone (obviously) and Eda wasn't really that much of a criminal (we can see this when she literally opened up a shop at her house but seeing how she tries to get a few snails very often while in town this theory is wrong), Luz could use magic, Hexside was not a name but was just called a "Magic Academy", and Willow was named Paulina until we got the name that we all know and are used to. God damn the Pilot is so different yet still so oddly similar to the show
