U-Go easel review part 1

  • Here are my unboxing and initial thoughts on the U-Go Plein air easel by New Wave Art. It seems like a well-built and versatile easel. With the glass insert and side expansions, it is not the lightest but should work well for hiking and painting. I am taking it on a two-week painting excursion in Glacier Park to test it out. Check out the Part 2 video to see how it worked.
    (This is not a paid-for review in any way)
    It can be found on most online retailers or directly through them here:

    Did you do a post-use follow up? I'd love to see what you actually thought after using it on a trip.

    Whoa, great review Kenneth. Post seeing you on Andrew Tischler’s podcast, I’ve started to follow you and by gosh, I’m goin to utilize those med containers for keeping my paints in. Great job, thanks for sharing, Lead on!

      Thank you! Yeah the pillbox is a easy hack to save some mess! Otherwise I use painters tape put down on the palette so in case I forget it is easy to clean up later. Thanks for subscribing that means a lot!

    Nice review! I have the mini-version of that pochade and I really like it. I also use a daytripper as my go-to easel. Kind of hard to top it. Looking forward to seeing more from your big trip!

      Thanks for the comment, I know the day tripper really is a top of the line easel. I am glad you like the mini version of the U-go. I have found myself frustrated by the smaller boxes so I have avoided it but maybe I'll grab one!

      @@KennethYarus Have you tried Michael Klein's Pochade Palette yet? It is really tiny/light weight but I've loved mine. Can attach it to a tripod like a small pochade or a hold it while painting.

      @@fountatelier I have seen his video of that little fella- seems pretty efficient. I may opt for a James Gurney style watercolor set up for my very mobile work.

      How heavy is the day tripper compared with the ugo?

    • @fountatelier
      @fountatelier ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nigh7shad3 depends on the size of the u.go . The Daytripper palette is probably pretty comparable, maybe a little lighter. But you have to have a panel holder as well.

    Thank you for this! I've been using the Day Tripper, and it's good, but there's one single nut that, if lost, makes the entire thing unusable. (And the designer went all Q-Anon, and I'm averse to that). So I'm looking for a new option.

    • @KennethYarus
      @KennethYarus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Akicita,
      Yeah the Daytripper is a great easel, I have loved using it. The little Ugo was pretty sweet too, I am going to work on my two week review here next. It held up great out there :)

    You can always use your rubber bands to help hold vertical....thanks for letting is know it's made in usa

    • @KennethYarus
      @KennethYarus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure thing! I hope they keep the USA made a priority but I know as demand rises companies can struggle to keep up.

    What tripod are you using? I'm struggling to find a decent priced tripod that's tall enough for me and without elevating the centre column for better stability.

    • @KennethYarus
      @KennethYarus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh man I KNOW! Tripods are a pain... I am using a monfrotto one lately. I used an old hunting scope tripod for a long time and it really reached high but was heavier.

      @@KennethYarus What I mean is, get a rough idea as to what best suits your needs and ask a local carpenter to assist you. Have the person make it, then you market it. Sounds fun and potentially profitable. Keep working, that's what's important above all else!
