I’m still rocking my Air 2! It works great for streaming videos and web browsing. Battery life still lasts a good 6 hours for video playback. Only down side is it’s the 16gb model so it’s completely useless for downloading anything 😅
I still have the iPad Air 2. It’s amazing! I got the 64 GB model. The reason why I never got the newer cheaper variants is because the screens aren’t fingerprint resistant. I basically use my iPad for simple tasks. This includes reading my college textbooks, streaming videos, and checking emails.
In 2016 I bought an iPad Air 2, and even though with iPad os 16 not supporting it, even after its battery and performance being past its prime, it still works as a perfectly fine TH-cam machine!
The part of a Second Hand iPad that holds value for me, is that a tablet I bought NEW in 2017 on Android, has slowed so much that it take a full 10 seconds for my lock screen to show up after pressing a button. And a second hand iPad mini 2 that I just bought, even on iPad (iOS) 12.5.5, starts things quicker. Sad that some apps I'd use don't have 12.5.5 compatible rollbacks, but it is literally just a streaming device that I can use when my other screen are being utilised.

I have a 64GB Cellular iPad Air 2 on iPadOS 15. But I upgraded to the Air 5. It lasted me very well and I still have it right here. The problems it had were the battery but it was great while it lasted.
What a fantastic device! Each year I look at the supported devices of iOS releases and each year I'm pleasantly surprised it's there. I wish I had bought it at the time! You said in that second-hand / olds iPads are generally bad deals. While I definitely agree for the ones with screens around ~10", I think the 12.9" can be interesting. For example, it's easy to find refurbished 2017 12.9" iPad Pro 256GB at €489. Frankly, with Pro-Motion and an A10X, they are still pretty capable devices and it seems like the cheapest way to get a big iPad. I think there's room for a 12.9" iPad Air with standard LCD display without Pro-Motion. It could be a more affordable option to the €1099 12.9" iPad Pro.
Honestly that's an interesting point- I know Apple also offers refurbished 12.9" iPad Pros pre-2018 as well for half decent prices. My friend even got one of them and absolutely loves it- might be worth a video on it's own at some point, and you're completely right. For your last point, I could see a 12.9" iPad Air happening. Not sure how big the market for that would be but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple did it.
Brought my Air 2 Dec 2016, at that time it was my only Apple computer but because of the excellence of that 1 product I'm now totally in the Apple ecosystem. I gave the Air 2 to my granddaughter after I upgraded to the Air 3 which I still have. Apple makes the best tablets for the average person.
My dad uses this iPad nowadays but it’s still completely usable with good battery capacity still, got it a couple years back for an amazing deal and no regrets.
I too am still using my iPad Air 2. It’s been brilliant. On iOS 15 latest update. Still works beautifully. Battery needs recharging quite frequently but that’s not been a problem. Love It.
Apple's ridiculously good software support and me taking great care of my devices (thus avoiding Apple's abysmal business practices regarding hardware support) that made me comfortable with switching to iOS
My first iPad - Jan 2015 bought new and thought it was great with Touch ID and a bluetooth keyboard case I wrote real homework papers on it; Upgraded to the 9.7 Pro when it came out and sold on eBay - thanks for the vid
I wouldn't update to OS15 on mine because you loose a row of apps on the air 2 and since its likley the last update for it I doubt there will be much i'm missing. I still use my air 2 at work for conference calls, web browsing and chats and it's held up well.
Watching this on the iPad Air 2 with 128GB, at the time I thought it would be a crazy purchase but it turns out that it wasn’t. Unfortunately the battery didn’t hold up very well after all these years, I’m experiencing a pretty laggy experience within apples UI but when in apps it is running just fine.
My iPad 2 (not an air 2, a 2) is awful on iOS 9 but the thing still gets impeccable battery backup, it’s kinda funny. I just sideload movies on to it and use it as IN flight entertainment 💀
Yeah bought mine 128GB cellular and it’s barely useable now. BARELY. Very very laggy and sometimes apps crash for me with iPadOS 15. I’ve even tried a fresh reset etc with no apps installed. Still laggy. If the next iPad Pro 11” gets a mini led, I’ll buy the 2TB Cellular version of it and hopefully get almost 10 years out of it lol.
I have iPad Air 2 , as a second iPad only for internet surf - movies and TH-cam , and it works well , the only issue I have is battery life and it’s a little bit slow when you have to work on word doc for example etc
Upgraded to iPad Pro M1 recently and it’s a hell of an upgrade over iPad Air 2! But it’s still a modern good usable iPad in 2021. I wouldn’t recommend buying iPad 9 if you already have Air 2. They are almost the same.
I am going to be upgrading to the iPad Mini 6. I use the iPad for playing mobile games and this is where the iPad Air 2 really shows its age. It will run games just fine, but if you look at a game like Star Trek Fleet Command, that 2GB of RAM struggles. The game will crash, assets won't load, and it even mixes up icons. This doesn't make it unplayable, but playing the game on my iPhone 13 is a much better experience. The iPad Air 2 is still a perfectly usable device if you use it for casual purposes like TH-cam and Twitch. If you get a thick shockproof case and a screen protector and give it to a kid, they would be happy with it.
You should do the same video about the iPad Mini 4. It also has the A8 Chip ( not even the A8X ) and still runs IOS 15. The iPad Mini 4 is also the better device of the both, because of the 326ppi. I still use mine till today.
I still have it … for music and go on the net … sometimes I thinks too change … but now you convince me too keep it !! I have a iPhone 12 and for camera canon 90 D … so my iPad it’s give me the job done …. Thanks you make me save money !
I've always wanted an iPad Air. Once I saw the latest iPad Air last year, I just have to have it! Even though the iPad Air 2 will still get updates for now, getting it used is overpriced. Might as well get the latest gen iPad. Plus any device is only 16 GB storage is useless in 2021!
I am actually watching this video on my iPad Air 2 128gb still going great good, I bought it in 2015 in October, Great video thank you for sharing 👍🎈🎈🏴👏
Got recommended this a day after my Air 2 died after a long life of 5 years. And yes, the performance was alright but if you're switching between several apps it has several strokes so it is certainly usable but clearly in the 'ok condition' zone.
That laminated screen was both a blessing and a curse in my case. I have an iPad Air 2 that was accidentally sat on, glass cracked a bit and the screen is now unusable. I also have a 1st gen Mini and an iPad 6th gen, both with cracked screens, both with non-laminated screens, yet they’re still working to this day.
How much longer do you think the iPad Air 2 will receive security updates? I guess I wonder how much longer Apple will support iPadOS 15 after OS 18 is rolled out. Anyway, I really enjoyed your video. I have an old iPad Air 2 that still works great. And I checked online the other day, an Apple would still give me $40 as trade-in toward another purchase, which is very cool.
Honestly the long support is why I fell into Apple. After buying a iPhone 6s to play with and ending with my whole house in the Apple family. With Apple doing things like this it’s easy to see they really believe in less electronic waste.
Yep updated my ipad air 2 to ipados 15 and still works smooth then my redmi note 9 pro even though it's more powerful then ipad air 2, it tells that how software optamization can help (ya fortnite and pubg works like s**t on ipad air 2 while works smoothly on redmi note 9s with custom rom) and yes the storage gets full since I have 16gb version. The speakers and display are good though
My first iPad was my 2015 iPad Air 2. Battery went at end of 2018 and for $99 apple handed me new 2015. It’s October 2022 and my battery JUST started draining again. I’m honestly wanting to pay $99 to have battery replaced at local repair shop I’ve used for iPhone. NOTHING ELSE is wrong with it! What do y’all think? I’m soooooo wanting to keep it!
I bought my in 2014 ( cellular + Wi-Fi ), changed the battery once, rather then that everything’s just fine^^ Cheers for an interesting review! ATB🙏🏻🍀🥃
The slightly fancier laminated LCD display featured in the iPad Air 2 and the Pros, etc are about 10x more expensive in part costs compared to LCD and cover glass/digitizer being two separate units. They're also easier to damage while doing other repairs like charging port or battery replacements, which you've probably had to have done more than once already as it crosses the 8 year mark.
My Air 2 display finally started getting wonky so I gave in and ordered an upgrade. That, and I was always low on storage and the battery life was getting bad. It was a great device though, I can't believe I used it for so long! I'm usually one who likes upgrading, but there was never a big need to upgrade with the Air 2.
It is pretty amazing, not just by iPad standards. Let's throw a back. A little, imagine you bought a computer in 2004 and you used that computer through 2011, that's the equivalent, I guarantee you no XP machine sold during that time was running all too well, if at all on Windows 7.
I had that iPad for 6 almost 7 years and it works very well for it's age. Don't plan on getting a new one until next year at least. Hope it will last before then.
I think the biggest difference between the iphone and ipad of the same age with regard to software support lifecycle is that the iPad is less constrained on power and heat than the iphone.
The large variety of productivity/entertainment uses for the Mini demonstrates how versatile it can be. A Master of Non - But Good at a lot of stuff - Fine by me!!! I bought an iPad Mini 2 Cellular 10 years ago. I do not browse with it - I'm an adult - so I use my 14" laptop to browse and an Apple TV for viewing. After 10 years of ownership - I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following (otherwise it sits in a drawer) #1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%) That's after over 150K miles of road trips - when I need a GPS around town - my iPhone works fine. #2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%) #3 - as an eReader (4%) #4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%) This might change with the pencil. I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out @ year end. The Mini is simply a great portable high performance device that sits between an iPhone & MBA M2 as a complimentary device.
I have such good luck when it comes to big ticket items 😊 I impulsively bought this iPad for myself as a Valentine’s Day gift shortly after it was released so it also has sentimental value for me. Ive used it heavily and off and on for years. After about 2 years of it sitting in a drawer I decided to dust it off. The woman at Best Buy basically laughed in my face when I asked for a case for it lol. Ive just recently updated it. It is a bit laggy but still very useful. Great for streaming and online shopping. It sucks that I can’t use an Apple Pencil as I’ve been recently using it as a techy notebook but I’m making due with a stylus. Such a wonderful purchase. I will upgrade sometime in the new year

I have a 64GB Cellular iPad Air 2 on iPadOS 15. But I upgraded to the Air 5. It lasted me very well and I still have it right here. The problems it had were the battery but it was great while it lasted.
Watching it with my great iPad Air 2❤️ I bought it the last year for €175… 128 gb… it was the best choice
Hey, nice video, as always, Josh!
My brother is still using his iPad Air 2 And it works great
I too am still using my iPad Air 2. It’s been brilliant. On iOS 15 latest update. Still works beautifully. Battery needs recharging quite frequently but that’s not been a problem.
Love It.
I have one of these, 64 GB refurbished in 2015. Battery isn't quite what it used to be but it still works.
I just got my this post year and it works great. I seen no problem at all. I am very gracious for its performance vs the price I paid for it.
Apple's ridiculously good software support and me taking great care of my devices (thus avoiding Apple's abysmal business practices regarding hardware support) that made me comfortable with switching to iOS
Exactly! Just take care of your iDevices and only thing they’ll ever need is a new battery
Apple is fucking shite with repairs and hardware but it’s also great with software, mixed bag really
8 years of updates that’s absolutely ridiculous and just think when this came out every one was saying the galaxy tab was the better deal 🤭
When iOS 13 launched, I thought it was going to be the last one. I was mistaken, twice
I just upgraded to an iPad Air 5 after having had an Air 2 since 2015, it definitely served me very well indeed.
I've had an air 2 since its release. The only downside is the battery life because of how much its been used, still runs great though.
Still rocking iPad air 2 16gb model since day one and it is doing great never replaced anything it till this point !!
How much storage left after system 3gigs?😂
I have a 16gb ipad air 2 before and it only gives me 7-8gb free 💀
i still daily drive my ipad air 2, and have since 2016. works great!
I have iPad Air 2 , as a second iPad only for internet surf - movies and TH-cam , and it works well , the only issue I have is battery life and it’s a little bit slow when you have to work on word doc for example etc
I am using one right now… I have it since 1 week after launch.. what a beast honestly..
Upgraded to iPad Pro M1 recently and it’s a hell of an upgrade over iPad Air 2! But it’s still a modern good usable iPad in 2021. I wouldn’t recommend buying iPad 9 if you already have Air 2. They are almost the same.
I'd say buy an iPad 9 now to replace an iPad Air 2 because the iPad 9 will probably get more updates than the iPad Air 2.
I just upgraded to an air M2. It’s like an upgrade to Star Trek lol
$500 in 2014 for a long lasting iPad. Pretty nice for an 8 year old iPad.
Plus any device is only 16 GB storage is useless in 2021!
i owned one that was 4 years old up until june, still have have it but use a 11 inch m1 pro as my main ipad now
I am actually watching this video on my iPad Air 2 128gb still going great good,
I bought it in 2015 in October,
Great video thank you for sharing 👍🎈🎈🏴👏
Honestly, as a random kid who wants an iPad but foesn't have a part time job, this is perfect for me!
I find it funny that this iPad got more support than the 2015 12” MacBook. The 2015 12” MacBook is stuck on macOS Big Sur.
Got recommended this a day after my Air 2 died after a long life of 5 years. And yes, the performance was alright but if you're switching between several apps it has several strokes so it is certainly usable but clearly in the 'ok condition' zone.
I am watching this video on the same iPad I got it in 2013 and it’s still working fine
My iPad Air 2 lasted 10 whole years. By far my best tech investment
My grandfather is still using an iPad Air 2 to this day. It only has 16 gb of storage, but it still works for him
I still have my old iPad Air and it’s running IOS 10 and runs so smoothly that I don’t want to update it.
Three iPads with broken screens? I don't think the iPads are the problem.
I still have this iPad which I still find perfectly usable. 😉
I still have it too. It’s been with me for more than eight years.
Got it in early 2015 and watching this video on it now!
I just found my old iPad Air 2 a few days ago and it was a nostalgia trip
sup loved the vid
How much longer do you think the iPad Air 2 will receive security updates? I guess I wonder how much longer Apple will support iPadOS 15 after OS 18 is rolled out. Anyway, I really enjoyed your video. I have an old iPad Air 2 that still works great. And I checked online the other day, an Apple would still give me $40 as trade-in toward another purchase, which is very cool.
Got it in 2014 and still used by the family now will upgrade when it loses support
@Federal Bureau of Investigation uts a family ipad though the ipad air 2 will stay as a kiddy ipad or i will give it to my grandma
Honestly the long support is why I fell into Apple. After buying a iPhone 6s to play with and ending with my whole house in the Apple family. With Apple doing things like this it’s easy to see they really believe in less electronic waste.
Awesome channel
Yep updated my ipad air 2 to ipados 15 and still works smooth then my redmi note 9 pro even though it's more powerful then ipad air 2, it tells that how software optamization can help (ya fortnite and pubg works like s**t on ipad air 2 while works smoothly on redmi note 9s with custom rom) and yes the storage gets full since I have 16gb version. The speakers and display are good though
Great video. I wish this were a little cheaper on eBay, as it looks like one with decent memory and in good shape is close to 200 on eBay.
It's not supported anymore, I'd upgrade to the iPad 10th generation.
My mom still uses this iPad and it works fine for her, she mostly uses it to scroll through Facebook and it work perfectly for that.
In 7 years time: none with my iPad Air 2!
@@ElrosTar-Minyatur same
how much do you drop your ipad?
My Air 2 display finally started getting wonky so I gave in and ordered an upgrade. That, and I was always low on storage and the battery life was getting bad. It was a great device though, I can't believe I used it for so long! I'm usually one who likes upgrading, but there was never a big need to upgrade with the Air 2.
It is pretty amazing, not just by iPad standards. Let's throw a back. A little, imagine you bought a computer in 2004 and you used that computer through 2011, that's the equivalent, I guarantee you no XP machine sold during that time was running all too well, if at all on Windows 7.
I still have an iPad Air 2 and not upgrading any time soon
I had that iPad for 6 almost 7 years and it works very well for it's age. Don't plan on getting a new one until next year at least. Hope it will last before then.
On a Mini 4 which is basically a small iPad Air 2. Battery has degraded, but it’s still a darn good device.
I think the biggest difference between the iphone and ipad of the same age with regard to software support lifecycle is that the iPad is less constrained on power and heat than the iphone.
It’s more about space
Taught using this iPad and any stylus pen works great!
Still have one, 128GB, very much in service. Best iPad ever.
Im using it on 7 years with out any issues 🙌😍
I actually still used it until I got the M1 iPad Pro in July 2021! That’s crazy.
After 10 years of ownership - I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following (otherwise it sits in a drawer)
#1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%) That's after over 150K miles of road trips - when I need a GPS around town - my iPhone works fine.
#2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%)
#3 - as an eReader (4%)
#4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%) This might change with the pencil.
I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out @ year end. The Mini is simply a great portable high performance device that sits between an iPhone & MBA M2 as a complimentary device.
I still using the first gen iPad, the best devi for entertainment, well for light computing tasks too
I have such good luck when it comes to big ticket items 😊 I impulsively bought this iPad for myself as a Valentine’s Day gift shortly after it was released so it also has sentimental value for me. I will upgrade sometime in the new year
This makes me hopeful about my air 3
I had that! I just bought an iPad Air 4. It was a good run.
My current iPad is the Air 2 and it’s great
