    The iPad Air 2 somehow will be receiving 8 full years of software support- an absolutely unheard of number in the smartphone/tablet industry. And how does it hold up? Well... pretty decently, to be honest.
    This video isn't *quite* 2 hours like the last one lol, but I hope you all enjoy!

      Great video Josh, next, do a video on the original 12.9 inch iPad Pro from 2015. I feel like that iPad is still Great. Or, do a video on either the 9.7 inch iPad Pro, or 10.5” iPad Pro, Those are great as well.

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@123theprodigy5 I agree, the first pro from 2015 will probably go down in history as the older iPad that aged best... It came out only 1 year after the air 2 but had double the RAM and storage, pencil and keyboard support (which also means sidecar support), USB 3.0 speed support, variable refresh rate up to 60hz, let alone the larger screen and the faster chip). It's still pretty good today, has aged much better than the air 2

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@123theprodigy5 PS I also have the 9.7 pro and 10.5 pro. The 9.7 pro is hated in the Apple community not because it's bad, it's a much better device than the air 2, but because it could have beed so much better if Apple had given it only 1 thing: 4GB of RAM like its bigger brother. The 10.5 has been ridden with white spots, tons of people have this issue, it's the device I hate most and I wish I could sell it but nobody buys it...

    I bought this back in 2014 as my very first iPad, and boy was this worth the money.
    It was the only iPad from the 2014 lineup to receive full multitasking support with SplitView in iOS 9, and it was the only iPad that predated the iPad Pro introduction to receive continued support during the iOS/iPadOS split with iPadOS 13, and it's *STILL* supported with iPadOS 15.
    Only in recent years did I feel the age of this iPad, but it was still a perfectly fine tablet. I have since updated it with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with M1, but this thing had quite an impressive run. What a great device this was.

    The part of a Second Hand iPad that holds value for me, is that a tablet I bought NEW in 2017 on Android, has slowed so much that it take a full 10 seconds for my lock screen to show up after pressing a button. And a second hand iPad mini 2 that I just bought, even on iPad (iOS) 12.5.5, starts things quicker. Sad that some apps I'd use don't have 12.5.5 compatible rollbacks, but it is literally just a streaming device that I can use when my other screen are being utilised.

Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. What a fantastic device! Each year I look at the supported devices of iOS releases and each year I'm pleasantly surprised it's there. I wish I had bought it at the time!
    You said in that second-hand / olds iPads are generally bad deals. While I definitely agree for the ones with screens around ~10", I think the 12.9" can be interesting. For example, it's easy to find refurbished 2017 12.9" iPad Pro 256GB at €489. Frankly, with Pro-Motion and an A10X, they are still pretty capable devices and it seems like the cheapest way to get a big iPad.
    I think there's room for a 12.9" iPad Air with standard LCD display without Pro-Motion. It could be a more affordable option to the €1099 12.9" iPad Pro.

    • @91Tech
      @91Tech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Honestly that's an interesting point- I know Apple also offers refurbished 12.9" iPad Pros pre-2018 as well for half decent prices. My friend even got one of them and absolutely loves it- might be worth a video on it's own at some point, and you're completely right.
      For your last point, I could see a 12.9" iPad Air happening. Not sure how big the market for that would be but I wouldn't be surprised if Apple did it.

    I've had an air 2 since its release. The only downside is the battery life because of how much its been used, still runs great though.

    Upgraded to iPad Pro M1 recently and it’s a hell of an upgrade over iPad Air 2! But it’s still a modern good usable iPad in 2021. I wouldn’t recommend buying iPad 9 if you already have Air 2. They are almost the same.

      I'd say buy an iPad 9 now to replace an iPad Air 2 because the iPad 9 will probably get more updates than the iPad Air 2.

    I am going to be upgrading to the iPad Mini 6. I use the iPad for playing mobile games and this is where the iPad Air 2 really shows its age. It will run games just fine, but if you look at a game like Star Trek Fleet Command, that 2GB of RAM struggles. The game will crash, assets won't load, and it even mixes up icons. This doesn't make it unplayable, but playing the game on my iPhone 13 is a much better experience. The iPad Air 2 is still a perfectly usable device if you use it for casual purposes like TH-cam and Twitch. If you get a thick shockproof case and a screen protector and give it to a kid, they would be happy with it.

    You should do the same video about the iPad Mini 4. It also has the A8 Chip ( not even the A8X ) and still runs IOS 15. The iPad Mini 4 is also the better device of the both, because of the 326ppi. I still use mine till today.

    I've always wanted an iPad Air. Once I saw the latest iPad Air last year, I just have to have it! Even though the iPad Air 2 will still get updates for now, getting it used is overpriced. Might as well get the latest gen iPad. Plus any device is only 16 GB storage is useless in 2021!

    Got recommended this a day after my Air 2 died after a long life of 5 years. And yes, the performance was alright but if you're switching between several apps it has several strokes so it is certainly usable but clearly in the 'ok condition' zone.

    That laminated screen was both a blessing and a curse in my case. I have an iPad Air 2 that was accidentally sat on, glass cracked a bit and the screen is now unusable. I also have a 1st gen Mini and an iPad 6th gen, both with cracked screens, both with non-laminated screens, yet they’re still working to this day.

    How much longer do you think the iPad Air 2 will receive security updates? I guess I wonder how much longer Apple will support iPadOS 15 after OS 18 is rolled out. Anyway, I really enjoyed your video. I have an old iPad Air 2 that still works great. And I checked online the other day, an Apple would still give me $40 as trade-in toward another purchase, which is very cool.

The speakers and display are good though

    My first iPad was my 2015 iPad Air 2. Battery went at end of 2018 and for $99 apple handed me new 2015. It’s October 2022 and my battery JUST started draining again. I’m honestly wanting to pay $99 to have battery replaced at local repair shop I’ve used for iPhone. NOTHING ELSE is wrong with it! What do y’all think? I’m soooooo wanting to keep it!

    The slightly fancier laminated LCD display featured in the iPad Air 2 and the Pros, etc are about 10x more expensive in part costs compared to LCD and cover glass/digitizer being two separate units. They're also easier to damage while doing other repairs like charging port or battery replacements, which you've probably had to have done more than once already as it crosses the 8 year mark.

    My Air 2 display finally started getting wonky so I gave in and ordered an upgrade. That, and I was always low on storage and the battery life was getting bad. It was a great device though, I can't believe I used it for so long! I'm usually one who likes upgrading, but there was never a big need to upgrade with the Air 2.

    It is pretty amazing, not just by iPad standards. Let's throw a back. A little, imagine you bought a computer in 2004 and you used that computer through 2011, that's the equivalent, I guarantee you no XP machine sold during that time was running all too well, if at all on Windows 7.

    The large variety of productivity/entertainment uses for the Mini demonstrates how versatile it can be. A Master of Non - But Good at a lot of stuff - Fine by me!!!
    I bought an iPad Mini 2 Cellular 10 years ago. I do not browse with it - I'm an adult - so I use my 14" laptop to browse and an Apple TV for viewing.
    After 10 years of ownership - I use my Mini almost exclusively when I "TRAVEL" - to do the following (otherwise it sits in a drawer)
    #1- as a GPS unit in my vehicles - the best GPS ever (70%) That's after over 150K miles of road trips - when I need a GPS around town - my iPhone works fine.
    #2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video paired with a M2 MBA (25%)
    #3 - as an eReader (4%)
    #4 - the odd miscellaneous task (1%) This might change with the pencil.
    I will likely buy the new Mini 7 when it comes out @ year end. The Mini is simply a great portable high performance device that sits between an iPhone & MBA M2 as a complimentary device.

    I have such good luck when it comes to big ticket items 😊 I impulsively bought this iPad for myself as a Valentine’s Day gift shortly after it was released so it also has sentimental value for me. Ive used it heavily and off and on for years. After about 2 years of it sitting in a drawer I decided to dust it off. The woman at Best Buy basically laughed in my face when I asked for a case for it lol. Ive just recently updated it. It is a bit laggy but still very useful. Great for streaming and online shopping. It sucks that I can’t use an Apple Pencil as I’ve been recently using it as a techy notebook but I’m making due with a stylus. Such a wonderful purchase. I will upgrade sometime in the new year
