Shadow literally punched me in the gut since the first time I heard it. The meaning keeps getting deeper and deeper the more you listen to it (be sure to listen to the full version) and watch the MV. Don't let me shine because the stronger the light, the bigger and darker the shadow. And the two selves fighting and coexisting.... So much.
For me this song is actually sad because at the beginning of the song he want to be everything, rapper, king, boss but when he got them, "nobody told me how lonely it is up there", "don't let me shine, don't let me fly, now I'm scare". Btw this is Suga solo song but under bts song. Kinda seem like you don't realize there's only suga rapping. Suga- shadow Rm- persona Jhope- Ego These three song connect with each other and introduce you to the album map of the soul. Hope you check them too😉💜
When I first became ARMY, this was the song that made SUGA/Yoongi my bias...his songs are so emotionally raw, so lay those feelings on top of his flow and beats and I'm done for. When you have a minute, I'd suggest checking out his BTS solo First Love as well, along with more of his Agust D releases (they don't have videos, but "Burn It" and "The Last" are must-listens). Its not confirm that jin enlisting on october. Bighit said he only cancelling his postponement end of this month. He need wait first when got called by military to enlist. Probably november/december.
That Y on his jacket with small numbers close to it is supposedly a registration plate number of a Yamaha motorcycle he was on when he ended up in that horrendous shoulder shattering injury during his delivery job. Nothing you see in their MV is random or just for a splashy affect - all has a purpose, symbolism and reason behind. In korea, bts military enlistment had been discuss since 2018 but the government don't know either they should go or be exempted. This topic been drag for years, tbh bts never talk about wanting exemption, jin clearly stated he will go when they call but bts still get hate from this. At last bts themselves officially said they want to enlist, stop with exemption discussion, they wait for government for years to decide and in the meantime get hate because they don't enlist. And fyi when bts announce this, even the government don't know lol

Concept albums, when done well, are so amazing. How this song fits into the concept is amazing. The flow of the album would have been very different originally but unfortunately BTS had to change their plans so instead of a typical 3 albums series that they are kind of know for putting out, we got Map of the Soul: Persona and then we would have gotten like Map of the Soul Ego or Shadow but they had to combine the last 2 and we got Map Of The Soul 7 which came out in their seventh year as a group.
