My wife and I are in Punxsutawney, tonight, passing through, and we're really enjoying our trip in rural Pennsylvania. Really nice folks. We got wings and burgers at a bar called "The Burrow" downtown -- highly recommended!

My fiancee and I went on a total spur of the moment snap decision in February of 1997. Groundhog Day is actually my birthday, and seemed a fun thing to do. Everything you said is right about getting to town early and all of it. The attraction is the little town becomes Las Vegas for a night. Bars and restaurants do not close, and there's a general party atmosphere over all of it. Go for the fun and drinks, stay for the groundhog at dawn the next morning!
My wife and i went there 2x... Once in the summer to check it out then went back the next February for the main event.. for us the morning of really sucked.. we ended up going in an ice storm it was terrible.. we still went and were dressed for the event ( thank god) ... The overall experience was actually fantastic but the rain and ice was terrible the only saving grace is i was able to experience this adventure with my soulmate... She passed away a couple of years ago.. i can however close my eyes and be transported back to that day and that time and feel warm if for only a minute... Ill always miss her "I love you Janet and I always will" 😢❤
