    As a cross country semi truck driver, my route is west to east coast and return. This country is so incredibly varied and everyone should take the time to do such a trip at least once in their life. Make sure and have plenty of time to see all the nooks and crannies of awesomeness available for your exploring pleasure.

      As a young man who made the opposite trip a year ago by hitchhiking, I must say that hitchhiking is not dead and is a life changing way to travel the country. The places you'll go, people you'll meet, and challenges you'll face are incredibly worth it and humbling.

    Two things that I would like to say about this video:
    1) Thanks for not putting music on it, it's like an invitation to put on the travel music that you want.
    2) Some years ago I made a roadtrip around the south island on New Zealand. It was just the road and me. I have never felt such an overwhelming sense of freedom. This video took me back to that beautiful memory. Thanks ❤ Greetings from Uruguay !

      I would like to do other countries one day. So far it's only been Canada and Germany for road trips for me outside of the U.S.

    I did this exact trip last year, starting in Santa Monica and ending in New York, after driving the length of Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica, starting in New York. It’s so great to relive this. We have a beautiful country. Thanks for sharing!

    As a Norwegian this is just incredible, im used to curved roads, mountains and rain all the time. United States have so much different landscape and climate! not to mention the cities and highways that Im not used to at all. I’ve been to NY Twice and I just love your country!       Thanks! Some of my all-time favorite videos are of the long train rides in Norway. The climate/topography of Norway is different than that of, say, the California/Arizona desert, but no less beautiful. I'd love to visit Norway one day. So far Germany is the closest I've been.

    When my son was studying for his MBA at Stanford, he and I drove across from New York, twice, and back once (the other time he had his car shipped). On that trip back we did cover some of the routes you cover here, evoking scenic memories. And, yes, I did get a speeding ticket. This trip is amazing, partly of course for the time lapse, but also for the number of trucks we pass. And for the number of people who have now watched it, on the order of 400 or more a day!     In 1986, my family also went on a long journey, but it was vthe other way around. I was about 8 yrs young and my dad drove for 5 days from new jersey to california. It was an adventure I'll never forget.

      That's similar to a road trip that my father took us on 2 years earlier when I was only 8 years old. We drove from Middletown, NY (where I grew up) to Santa Monica. I had hoped to do a similar trip like that this summer, but the pandemic is forcing me to delay that trip. I hope to do it in the next year.

    Thank you for this incredible work. It takes dedication to put this together, not just the driving and the filming, but the editing. I think it would be better if the names of cities and counties included the name of the state they are in, so one can easily know it without having to watch the entire video from start to finish. The different times for the different states is a nice touch though, thank you.

      Thank you! My newer videos have GPS information and even the outside temperatures. This was my first major video, and I've learned a lot since then. Plus, I record my road trips in real time and offer both real time and time lapse versions of the video instead of just the time lapse that this video is in.

      @@unclecoolie Yes, very good work. I honestly appreciate a video like this even more now that I've driven from Los Angeles to Miami myself this past July 8 to July 14 (6 days). It's a very long trip, and the transition from arid to sub-tropical is very interesting, the trees in Mississippi were incredible, and Louisiana has a ton of Greenery to offer as well.       Oh, I checked the camera many times. I did forget to start it when I pulled over in Poncha Springs, Colorado (at 2:19:23). That's why there's a black fade right after I turned off of US-50 west. It was 2-3 miles before I realized that. I'm glad I didn't forget any longer!

    One thing that amazes me in contrast with living in Australia which everyone knows is very spread out and not densely populated, is the fact your drove for hours on 4+ lane highways with massive amounts of traffic and you could see the scope of it with the cars coming the opposite direction and it didn’t start thinning out till you got to San Bernardino

      The L.A. area is very populated, but then almost immediately it turns desolate. I was a bit nervous driving across the Mojave Desert because it was so empty for hours and so hot. Fortunately, I had no issues at all with my car.

    It really puts into perspective just how small the GTA V map really is.
    Seriously though, great video so far; I'm only about 2/3rds the way through California.
    I'm from Ireland and have always had a fascination with great American road trips. I hope to get the chance to do one of my own some day.

      @@wjkkwjkf2980 it was done over 3 months because it was four smaller trips. The first part--Santa Monica to Omaha--was the last part of a six-day, 4,400-mile (7,100 km) drive that I did that started in Omaha.

    America has the most beautiful landscape. I drove from Rockford Illinois to reno nevada. Dropped my son off for his job. I am 60 and drive 90% of time.
    Have been driving since 10 years old.
    Also drove my son from Chicago to Galveston TX. For his medical school.

    I saw the solar eclipse in 2017 in Glendo Wyoming. I live in the uk but was on a road trip at the time. It was amazing to see the eclipse, as well as to see everyone on the interstate just stop. Great video as well!

      @@sal-the-man Yes, I did. My whole family and some of our friends drove to Ohio to see it. Because traffic was bad, we settled for seeing it in Akron, while in the path of totality, only lasted about a minute and a half. It was still awesome.

    Brings me some memories. I'm from Brazil and I did a road trip in the US in 2017. I drove through California, Arizona and Utah. Then took a plane to New York. Actually a month after this video was made. It was a nice trip!

      It was! I actually planned a six-day, 4,400-mile drive between August 16-21, 2017 from Omaha to Santa Monica back to Omaha to culminate in witnessing this eclipse. The Santa Monica to Omaha part is the first half of this video, and the Omaha to Santa Monica part is my Nebraska to California video that's uploaded separately.

    It took me 2 days but I finally finished the whole trip! As a retired trucker, I must commend your safe driving! I think that I would be able to sleep soundly in the bunk of an 18 wheeler with you behind the wheel. I have driven all the roads featured, so it was somewhat a sentimental journey for me. The eclipse was an extra little treat! Also, at around 4:22:27, the Iowa 80 Truck Stop sign appears. It is on the westbound (left on the screen) side of I-80. I was wondering as you approached, wether or not you would stop there! It claims to be "the biggest truck stop in the world 🌎"! Excellent job! 🇺🇸

      Thanks. I used to live in WV myself, in the Charleston area. I even went to school in WV, but had to move to Virginia due to the fact that I couldn't find a job in WV.     Flying from Colorado Springs to Chicago was the most amazing imo. Lake Michigan looks like an ocean stretching over the horizon! Chicago is a huge city, yet it's tall skyscrapers look so small and lonely. Colorado Springs is right where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains and it's unbelievable!

    For my whole life, the US has been a place of fiction. Even the youtubers, the documentaries, the interviews, you name it, on some level it was edited to look good.
    I watched like 10-15 min of the video and never in my life has this place felt more real. Seeing the landscapes fly by made me really hungry for travelling.
    I wasn't expecting anything but damn this video truly illuminated a boring rainy weekday, and I thank you for that.

      There’s a gap down in Panama before Columbia that has no road so you can’t drive from NA to SA.

    I drove from Indianapolis, IN to Phoenix, AZ for a travel nursing assignment. I had to see what you were able to catch of Indianapolis as well as other mutual routes I have traveled before. I recognized how you passed through the north part of Indy. Really showed how much different landscape makes up the continental US.

      Me and a friend drove from Ohio to Phoenix, AZ and back pretty much non stop (except for gas and food and bathroom) two times we pulled over to try to get a few hours rest (which didn't help much at all just made us more tired), I was slamming away V8 energy drinks like they was water.

      Thank you! You should see my newer videos. I have a lot more information on them such as GPS and temperatures. And I upload them in real time, too. I just posted a video that's over 13 hours long. In hind sight, this video was simple to edit (and I have to mention the many mistakes I made with it, too).
