I think the second film is my favorite. It has the deeply emotional story with Hiccup's mom returning and the loss of Stoic, plus some incredible action and the ascension of Toothless as the alpha. Pure awesomeness from beginning to end.
Problems with it though (that make it the worst in my opinion): Valka just leaves her son and husband for 20 years, doesnt even to come back to check on them or even see how they were doing. What kind of a mother does that? Also, the whole movie takes place in around 2 days, and any normal people would be way more sad about losing their father/chief, especially as he was so beloved, and they wouldnt just be happily celebrating and acting like nothing happened. Finally, alot of the characters make some pretty dumb decisions in this movie (unlike what they usually would've done), like Astrid taking the riders to Drago's camp (there was no evidence Hiccup had gone there), and endangering the others and their dragons etc. Its still very good, but doesnt quite hold up to the other two for me, especially when compared to hidden world.

The whole thing with his new tail makes more sense with the context of the holiday special, Gift of the Night Fury, which takes place shortly after the first film and was referenced in this movie with Astrid's "you've made this before, he didn't want it". That's why he was able to make it so easily and explains why it was only now brought back. The special ties in really well with the third movie, and hits even harder emotionally with the context of it.
HTTYD has a series and special episodes. It's catered to kids, so the plots aren't complicated; more of teaching values and slice of life/daily life in Burk kind of thing. They did end with a cliffhanger which COULD tie up to Drago. If you want to explore the world of HTTYD and meet more dragon species, I think it's a pretty fun watch; even if you don't react for ytube and just watch it on your own. In the series, Hiccup invented the prototype for Toothless' tail, which is why Hiccup said "new and improved tail. Let's give THIS another shot" or something like that. But at the time, they weren't ready to be independent from each other yet, and they went back with the usual saddle-controlled tail.

@@pogpogpog7507 I think Vigo Grimborn in the series is my favorite villain, I found him more interesting than either of the movie villains. The biggest difference between Grimmel and Viggo (the villain from Race to the Edge) is that even though they're both the kind of villain that fights with their intellect, there just isn't enough time to fully show Grimmel being clever and manipulative like Viggo. It's a matter of movie vs. TV show that makes Viggo better. He has hours and hours of time to be built up and villainized and sit plotting in the background. Grimmel gets an hour and a half
@@Hunts-so1jb he had to have. He can't be talking about Drago because Drago's the complete opposite kind of villain as Grimmel. Drago uses brawn, Grimmel uses brain. And based on Eret's description of Grimmel, Viggo is the only villain that fits
YES EXACTLY! i love the movie but grimmel being the villain that drives them to hide the dragons has never made sense to me. not only is he a less threatening villain than drago (or johann, if we're being honest) imo, but hiccup has already bested viggo who is a more threatening, younger, smarter version of grimmel. if they'd invested more time into showing how truly diabolical grimmel was i think i could understand it more, but then the movie would be too long lol
26:28 The ending was beautifully done, but definitely came as a surprise. It's cool to end the series w/ dragons fading into myths & legends like the real world, but I wasn't expecting it at all tbh. The films did such a great job of making them all one big family that it felt kinda wrong for them to get separated lol. Ngl, I was also expecting the Deathgrippers to be responsible for Grimmel's death in the end. As soon as he said that he was controls them w/ their own venom 18:08, I expected a scene where Hiccup frees them from his mind control & they turn on Grimmel.
I remember when the first movie was released, then the animated shorts, the shows and finally the two movies with some content in between them. I have literally grown up with these movies since I was 7 up till now (currently 16 y/o) and every time I watch the movies or anything related to them makes me tear up, it gives me a sense of nostalgia and mixed feelings about the true message behind it all which is incredibly deep and true about real life represented in the emotions, stories, relationships and facial expressions of these dragons and people. To some, this trilogy may just be a bunch of kids movies, but to me and the fandom, they are a way to escape from my problems, have a happy place and feel like tiny child again. They're not just movies for me, they are symbolic representations of my childhood. 🥺✨🖤
My favorite animated series too! I don't know if I can pick a favorite of the 3, they were all amazing! When they released the dragons it absolutely gutted me, but I can't think of anything that could be better! The reunion at the end was the saving grace or I would probably still be crying my eyes out somewhere! 😂
Saw it when i was 15 on opening night cause i had nothing better to do. Literally couldn’t care less about the series at that point but found myself almost bawling. Now its my favorite group of movies to date
Well thats pretty much also my story as a kid i thought meh a movie with dragons. probably stupid. I didnt watch it then but later i saw the this movie with friends in the theater and became in love with it. Now its my favorite series too
I watched it for the first time last week, in anticipation of this reaction, and ended up bawling like a baby. It's a beautiful story, especially the ending! Great reaction, Seb!
I was given early screening access to watch this movie before it went public, there was a good amount of people in the audience room. The ending including the part where hiccup is sacrificing himself made the entire audience and me cry so much because of how emotional the music was and we really thought he was going to die. When they were removing the saddles we all cried even louder, it was just so emotional for the entire audience and I still remember the emotions I went through that day. I grew up with the entire franchise since the first movie which I was 10 years old, when hidden world was in theaters I was 18 years old and now I’m 21 years old. It’s crazy how fast the years went by and the memories make me so happy that I would cry. I do hope that they’ll consider continuing hiccup and toothless’s story with another tv series but have it take place before the last scene of the third movie with like episodes going back and forth to show what the dragons and Vikings were doing.
While I understand everybody hated the ending, the dragons leaving after all the hard work Hiccup did bringing vikings and dragons together. However, they literally had to go. Otherwise more and more people like Grimmel would've kept coming after Berk because of all the dragons. Astrid even says "the more dragons we bring back, the more of a target we become.." so yes, they had to go for the better
Man it fucks me up every time watching the forbidden friendship scene from the first one and then this end scene here that bookends it with Hiccups hand on Toothless.
Fun fact! The ending lines of the movie, are the opening lines to the first How to train your Dragon book. As a book reader, I love how they brought them together. The books are very different, for instance, in the books toothless is a breed similar to the alpha dragon in the movie, but still amazing. I would definitely recommend reading them.
Grew up with these movies and the tv series, I was a crying reck in the cinema, especially when it showed the credits and showed the clips from the first movie 😭😁
Rise of the guardians!!! (the movie is set during easter if you still needed one for that holiday) also thank you so much fo doing this film trilogy. these movies mean so much to me and its amazing to re-experience them through someone elses eyes (:
idk if you remember, but the description given to the night fury is "the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself", that's why toothless uses lightning to disappear like the light fury
The visuals in this film were stunning. I especially love seeing powers/ magic in animated films like this tbh - they always look amazing in animation lol (i.e. Encanto, Frozen, The Incredibles, Onward, RoTG, Epic, RatLD, Wish Dragon, Hotel Transylvania, Tinker Bell, etc). 1:057:508:0612:3313:4517:0217:1724:40
The movie How to Train Your Dragon has left a lot of meaning about the beautiful friendship between humans and dragons. That movie make me CRYING TOO MUCH And I hope this movie back
My rating for this trilogy is 2, 1 then 2. The Hidden World could have been soooo much better to me if they didn’t reveal beared older Hiccup in the trailers when they released. They also could have dragged out the rescue scene when he falls after telling the female dragon to “save him”. If they did that I would have balled my eyes out and this film would have had the number one spot

Facts about the Night and Light Fury: Light Fury's scales are meant for blending in the daylight sky. To further their camouflage, their scales are heat sensitive and when the pass through a plasma blast, their scales heated up and become almost like mirror like reflecting the sky around, making them invisible in periods of time. Night Furies, as in the name, their jet black scales help them blend into the night sky and they too have reflective scales like the Light Fury but their ways are different. Instead of super heating their scales with plasma, they absorb lightning in clouds to create the same effect. However, this drains their strength as it takes a lot of energy and stamina and can only stay that way for short time but overtime they'll be able to fully master it when come of age.
Actually, there was short special film, where young hiccup has made same tail for Toothless- but after one short trip dragon destroyed it to show he wants fly only with his friend. Just nice detail, explaining why Hiccup made new prosthetic so easily, and also why he hasn’t done it years ago
I was 10 years old when I went to the movies to see the first film, now I'm 21 and this trilogy is still my favourite franchise ever!! I'm so glad you watched it.
The series takes place between movies one and two and has a really cool tie in to the king of dragons. When Hiccup refers to having dealt with Grimmel’s kind before, I am positive he is referring to Viggo Grimborn, the lead villain of the Race to the Edge series. Also you saying finally to them getting married is hilarious to the audience members who have watch this relationship through every series and special. It did take forever!
Something you missed about the villain Grimmel is that he Is Hiccups parallel, While He killed the night fury where it layed, Hiccup saved and befriended toothless
Every single movie in HTTYD trilogy is guaranteed to tear your heartstrings. It never failed to make me cry as well. It's very much my comfort films (and franchise). Anyway, I highly recommend you watch the television series! More dragon lore, adventures, relationship dynamics and characters' development! Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk are the first ones, more catered to younger audiences but it's still very good! It takes place right after the first movie. Race to the Edge is the best, and it's on Netflix. They're more mature than the first series. They take place right after the first two series and right before HTTYD 2. There are also other special episodes that you can watch too if you want! The HTTYD franchise is really good so I hope you watch it (in your own time)!
Great reaction man! Damn I love the whole HTTYD series, from the movies, Riders & Defenders of Berk, Race to the Edge and a bunch of the specials. When I say I was obsessed growing up I mean I was OBSESSED. Like, knew the names of every dragon from the first movie and two series obsessed. Before, you know. Life carries on and I wasn't able to keep up to date as much as I wanted to. Still, I fricken LOVE this franchise so much, it'll always hold a precious place in my heart. Honestly, if you enjoyed the movies I would recommend the series. They're more directed to kids and have a "dragon of the episode" sort of vibe at times. But, it does have overarching stories that go through the seasons, showing more growth and character building for the whole cast and their dragons. There are some AMAZING villains in the series too! So if you can forgive the more child friendly over family friendly aspect, I'd say give it a go. It surprised me way more than I expected I would. Admittedly, same with Camp Cretaceous for Jurassic Park/World. Done by the same people and is also really good. As for movies, Netflix has an original movie called The Sea Beast that is 100% worth watching!!! Kind of got the same vibe as HTTYD, with a mix of the 2003 animated Sinbad movie. Another movie I'd recommend if you've not seen it already. The big creature in it has a very Toothless like face too, very inspired by HTTYD but, the movie is good and the music and action scenes are awesome. Characters incredibly well written too. Edit: Know I'm late to this but I only recently found you channel and been slowly catching up with your reactions. Keep up the good work!

Yes good catch, Grimmel was made to basically be a representation of what Hiccup COULD HAVE become if he went the dark route and killed toothless in the 1st movie.
i bawled by eyes out when i watched this movie in the theatres....it was so heartbreaking and bittersweet...it also came out just as my college was ending just a few weeks ahead and i went out with all my friends and it felt like the end of an era with HTTYD and we all felt like that too because college was ending and i was leaving all my friends...it still holds a special place in my heart because of that
My Absolute favorite Dreamworks Trilogy! Perfect ending and I am glad you loved it!
Ayy Cody
Hey Cody! I am so glad that you liked this trilogy and I think you are one of the best TH-camrs ever!
I've watched this movie probably about a hundred times now, and it still drives me into emotion.
This movie gets me every single time🥺
I watched the first one in the theaters at 12yo with my best friend, and we watched together in the theaters the last one at 19yo. Literally grew up with these movies. Will be forever my fav animated trilogy💜
the nose pat being a reverse of the first time toothless let him touch him being the last time he touched him always makes me cry... and then the kids also getting to do it... this film man jeesuz
Viggo was such a great villain !
Pretty sure when hiccup said “we’ve dealt with his kind before” that was a reference to viggo
In a sense they did. In the last battle just before astrid does a 1v1 we see a deathgripper shooting at a boat in grimmer armada
Now its my favorite series too
I'm gonna cry with you. I feel it
I watched it for the first time last week, in anticipation of this reaction, and ended up bawling like a baby.
SEB: "You know when you kidnap someone..."
No Seb, we do not. However, open to opportunities when they present themselves. LOL
20:21 the map is Aberration, a bioluminescent cave with no flying creatures
4:02 fishmeat (baby gronckle) is like;
whatre you lot talking about? im eating here
Greatest Dream-works trilogy ever made, possibly one of the best animated movies ever madr
18:44 I'm crying its the seamless transitions into joke
seb I’m giving u a virtual hug
Man it fucks me up every time watching the forbidden friendship scene from the first one and then this end scene here that bookends it with Hiccups hand on Toothless.
20:33 if u noticed the alpha from the second movie is in the crowd with half his horn still. he bows to toothless aswell.
18:00 you're exactly right. Grimmel was created to be Hiccup's polar opposite
This is my favorite film of all time I'm very excited to see this reaction.
Fun fact! The ending lines of the movie, are the opening lines to the first How to train your Dragon book. As a book reader, I love how they brought them together. The books are very different, for instance, in the books toothless is a breed similar to the alpha dragon in the movie, but still amazing. I would definitely recommend reading them.
8:07 Toothless always does that lol
YES Finally This guy is the best
Grew up with these movies and the tv series, I was a crying reck in the cinema, especially when it showed the credits and showed the clips from the first movie 😭😁
the series is also amazing, it goes deeper in on the different species of dragons and I really recommend it
Rise of the guardians!!! (the movie is set during easter if you still needed one for that holiday)
also thank you so much fo doing this film trilogy. these movies mean so much to me and its amazing to re-experience them through someone elses eyes (:
idk if you remember, but the description given to the night fury is "the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself", that's why toothless uses lightning to disappear like the light fury
HTYD is one of my fave trilogy of all! But Seb you just GOTTA whatch Your Name man! I dare you not to cry whatching!
20:35 Not many notice this but there were lightfurys in the hidden world
The visuals in this film were stunning. 1:05 7:50 8:06 12:33 13:45 17:02 17:17 24:40
The babies are called Night Lights
The movie How to Train Your Dragon has left a lot of meaning about the beautiful friendship between humans and dragons.
That movie make me CRYING TOO MUCH
And I hope this movie back
Fun fact the baby night furies are called nightlights
My rating for this trilogy is 2, 1 then 2. The Hidden World could have been soooo much better to me if they didn’t reveal beared older Hiccup in the trailers when they released. They also could have dragged out the rescue scene when he falls after telling the female dragon to “save him”. If they did that I would have balled my eyes out and this film would have had the number one spot
If you look at 20:36 - 20:37 you'll see two more Light Furies, along with the former Alfa. So a total of 3 females are in existent in this movie.
it's not because it's a light fury that it's automatically a female :D
I always cry in this scene. The fact that my favorite movie ends, just gets me every time.
Still makes me cry every time.
first movie is how it all started, this was a happy ending to it all
Im glad you caught the parallels between Grimmel and Hiccup!
yet another series I've watched with you.
Hii haha the video is amazing and if you want see more about HTTYD I recommended defenderse of berk and Race to the edge, both are so good!!
Yeah this is my favorite animated trilogy and your emotion is completely valid. I cried holy through this entire thing.
UGH I WANNA PART 4 UGGGGGGGH
You should watch Big Hero 6 if you want another tearjerker
Well this part is really sad saying goodbye 😢
I just adore the baby Nightlights ❤
The most underrated How To Train Your Dragon movie and my personal favourite. The ending made me cry harder than any other movie ending fact😭😭😭!

I swear that light fury is so beautiful!!
LFG. Congrats on watching one of my favorite movie trilogies ever!
I'm so glad you posted this. I've been down for almost 1 week now, glad somehow I'll enjoy 30 minutes of my life today
I went to deep ewww
@@gen5301 Nah you didn't go deep at all! I hope your week gets somewhat better, you got this. Stay hydrated and take care of yourself! (ノ・ω・)ノ❤❤
There's a really good fanfiction about an alternate ending. It's called no good deed goes unpunished. It's really good.
Woah wasn’t cloud jumpers name in the second movie called storm cutter??
Yay! Can’t wait! You should definitely react to How To Train Your Dragon Homecoming
Actually, there was short special film, where young hiccup has made same tail for Toothless- but after one short trip dragon destroyed it to show he wants fly only with his friend. Just nice detail, explaining why Hiccup made new prosthetic so easily, and also why he hasn’t done it years ago
Fun fact: at 20 years old snotlout is 5’3
So many dragons 🐉
One of the very RARE franchises with every movie being better than the last.
Another was the last Planet Of The Apes prequel trilogy.
I was 10 years old when I went to the movies to see the first film, now I'm 21 and this trilogy is still my favourite franchise ever!! I'm so glad you watched it.
YOU DID IT!! Thank you so so much! 💙
17:15 *aggressive flashbacks to the books*
I watched this crying cuddling a pillow in my room. Such a beautiful ending
This movie had one of those plots that you knew what was about to happen but when it happened it still hit you like a ton of bricks.
Battlestar Galactica 2004 says "Oh my gods" as well. If you've ever seen that show. It's pretty good.
I cried in theaters watching this, just like I cried watching the 2nd movie. I love this world and these characters so much.
Woo!!! Excited again for this hehe I can’t wait to see what you react to next (animation-wise - have you seen flushed away? 🤣)
I would absolutly love to see you reacting to the series, especially the newer one.
nice reaction 👍👍❤❤
Something you missed about the villain Grimmel is that he Is Hiccups parallel, While He killed the night fury where it layed, Hiccup saved and befriended toothless
The last scene made me tear up it was perfect man
Such and amazing ending to a great trilogy. Toothless might be my favorite animated character of all time.
"I feel kinda empty and broken rn" same bro, same😃
thanks for your reaction
Literally right after you mentioned the Ironman quote I got an ad with tom Holland
Shoutout to the score!
The HTTYD franchise is really good so I hope you watch it (in your own time)!
yayyyy! im so excited for this!!!
side note: have you seen any studio ghibli movies? i really think you would enjoy them!
