Imagine if this man would have lived 50 more years. Imagine the just absolutely mesmerizing albums this man would have produced. His existence has inspired millions and completely defined a decade. Hands down the best guitar player in the world.

I was about 15 feet directly in front of him ,when he came out it was about 1:15 early Sunday morning, he was more to left side of stage than center ,4th of July weekend 1970 , it was the greatest electrifying performance I had ever witnessed ,jimi was chewing gum at a slow kind of pace, while his fingers were going 90 miles an hour , his brown eyes were so glazed over with what looked like a clear sealer , so glassy they looked as if they were glazed over 5 times ! This was my second time to see jimi live and this was my last as well , so glad I was so close to the stage ! There were over 450,000 there Guinness is labeled the concert the biggest mass gathering of all time until Abba played Central Park ! My most favorite band The Alman Brothers played several times the weekend, lots played but they were all in ABB’s back yard and they weren’t gonna be out shinned ! This was all of the original Allman’s and just about 4 weeks later they played the Love Valley festival , these 2 festivals were the last times I ever got to see all the original band members of The Allman Brothers band ! When they were a young band I used to see them at a place called The phantasmagoria it was a giant Barn turned night club with a underground bookstore upstairs ! I am glad that I got to see them so many times !! The Atlanta pop festival was the best one out of the many I went to ! Wish someone could find some of ABB songs that had never been published and put a album together just 1 last one for us old guys that lived through it all !! I’m 71 yrs ,old now ! I’m so blessed to have lived through the 60s-70s-80s-90s all that music was the greatest era for music since the beginning of time !!

Loved reading this! I just left his memorial here outside of Seattle. I purchased two portraits of this performance at the pop culture museum and I live in Byron about a mile from the site of where he performed this. Eagle Springs in Centerville.

@@corycarter1195 Cory first time I seen JIMI Hendricks was at the old Charlotte Colosseum , he opened the show for the monkeys , can you believe that ? There were 4 of us and we were laughing so much at all the kids coming in that were holding mommies and daddies hands it looked like a giant Day Care Center ! So we went back outside and smoked a fat one , before those crum snatchers made a high volume showing , we could smoke all day inside and no one said a word, well it’s just about show time and he came out from behind this giant deep dark purple almost black thick ass curtain ,this thing is huge he found the split and emerged ,walked to the edge of center stage said a few words and then started playing FIRE and with his guitar blade down on the stage he began getting the lighter fluid out the matches, etc. and then that’s when you realized the lights came on and all of these hamburger hotdogs papers paper cups water to just anything those kids could throw was on stage and out in front or they didn’t have the strength to make it all the way to the stage ! He picked up his white guitar, using the straps, threw it over his back and left the stage had a hard time finding the opening but did and thought that was it , about 5 minutes later he was beating on that giant purple curtain finally found the opening stepped out walked to the center edge with his white guitar still hanging on his back ! And he said FUCK YOU CHARLOTTE BECAUSE OF YOUR BEHAVIOR I WILL NEVER BE BACK TO PLAY ON THIS STAGE OR ANY OTHER IN THIS LOUSY TOWN !! AND WITH DOUBLE BIRDS IN HANDS , HE Stretched his neck close to the mic and said FUCK YOU ALL !!. And when I saw him at Atlanta pop that was as close as he ever played to Charlotte ever again ! So that early Sunday morning he played so good as if to send Charlotte a message dam he was at the top of his game that night ! Rude little crumb snatchers !

Wow, great story… Makes me wish I was born a little sooner, so I could’ve actually experienced this stuff for myself firsthand! I have a T-shirt, that says I may be old but I got to see all the cool bands… I have seen quite a number of cool bands, but I feel like maybe I should just give my T-shirt… Obviously, you got to see all the cooler bands!😁👍🎸☮️

PS ,wanted to say that the very first time seen JIMI was in Charlotte don’t remember what year, but he opened up for the MONKEES can ya believe that ? He was at his peak by this time in his life ! Wasn’t thinking about how young some of these kids were gonna be coming for the MONKEES, but dozens of those brats were with their parents, holding their hands as they went in , JIMI came out a started playing and those little brats ,started yelling and screaming and booing him , then they started throwing everything they could get their hands on at him , He put his guitar on his back and walked off stage going through the big giant purple curtains that Charlotte had on the stage for many years , A few minutes past and he came back out, still with his guitar on his back and walked to the very edge of the stage held both hands high flipping everyone of those little bastards, the bird and swore he was never gonna ever play Charlotte again as long as he lived and he didn’t , Atlanta pop festival was the closest he ever played again to Charlotte and I think that’s why he put on such a great performance at the festival just to let everyone that was from Charlotte. Realize what they were gonna miss from him because of the way those little brats treated him. I was so embarrassed for him , me and my friends left when JIMI left the stage the second time ! At the Atlanta Festival, the coolest thing happened while he was performing, He was playing the Star-Spangled Banner and someone from one of the scaffolds shot some fireworks and one of them with a parachute and red flare attached floated in the breeze right up to JIMI and almost stopped at the end of his guitar while he was playing the part of the Rockets and bombs going off in the song ! He was using his guitar like he had a AK-47 in his arms , It was really Beautiful the way it worked out for him and his playing of the Banner !

You should definitely check out Eddie Hazel from Funkadelic. Maggot Brain is an insane display of his prowess, as is this particular clip from Houston in 1979. In this one, Eddie unleashes a level of "heaviosity" few guitarists ever manage to touch. Eddie could just "turn it on" like that, then there was no holding him back.
