- THIS WHOLE CONCERT IS ON TH-cam AT • Happy Rhodes live - Ti...
Happy Rhodes doing a medley of Freddie Mercury's song "Lily of the Valley" and her own "Possessed". Videotaped May 10, 1996 (2nd show) at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia, PA with a Sony Hi8 camcorder. She starts the song with the capo still on her guitar from the previous song and starts singing in an amazingly high key, an (unintentional) demonstration of her tremendous vocal range.
The Sony Hi8 camcorder was handheld. So there is a bit of shake, but not much.
Kevin Bartlett on guitar and effects, and Carl Adami on bass.
Beautiful song, beautifully sung.
Love this! You really did Freddie and the song justice. Well done.
Marc Martel I definitely agree !
That's a damn compliment and a half coming from you
I love you Marc
This woman is one of my all time favorites. Breaks my heart that she is still lost in obscurity while the likes of some other talentless performers make it big. Then no one ever said life was fair.
Finally again somebody acknowledges the greatness of early Queen.
I can happily say you did do Freddie's song justice, one of my favourites. Lovely voice.
This video made me cry.
One of my favourites by Queen.
Man - What a voice. I haven't heard this song in years! I would pay good money to have a choral backdrop performing this behind her! Thanks for posting!
Happy is a huge Queen fan as well, and learned to sing along with Queen records.
She is so amazing! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Aaargh, that is my favourite lullaby, sung by Happy! Thank you for that! And Happy's great on stage, I really hope to see her live one day.
I'm a huge Queen fan. I am amazed at a lady who can sing Freddie's songs like that. I want to marry her.
Great version, lovely voice.
She is awesome!
Beautiful voice ...unique and rich sound!
Beautiful thx for upload
She's from upstate New York, but her largest fan base is in Philadelphia. She's a huge Queen fan. Search her name and you'll find a ton of information about her as well as song samples.
Great musician, great music. Really really really good!!!
Very nicely done. Great voice, and love her English accent at various points. Smart, funny, and basically brilliant!
A lovely version of Lily by Happy
elle est extraordinaire, j'en suis fan ;-) When the rain came down est la première chanson que j'ai connue d'elle et je ne me lasse pas de sa (ses) voix graves et aigüe.
She's really talented - never hear of her before this vid! Ta 4 posting ;-)
the fact that she was able to hit those notes when she was a full step higher that she planned--- well, how many artists can do that?!
I've measured her highest and lowest notes, and she has a genuine 4 octave range (A2 to G-Sharp6). Happy is a very big Queen fan.
*smile* Too late, she's already married. She didn't just randomly choose a Queen song to cover. Queen is her biggest influence, and she's a self-described fanatic. She's mentioned them in every interview where she's asked about her influences, and she was devastated when Freddie died.
wooooooot lily!
She should have kept going. She was doing it. Damn!!!
Unfortunately no other Queen covers, but if you search the web for "Happy Rhodes Nevermore Rarities" you'll come across my place (Vickie's Place), and then search page for either Nevermore or Left Hand Demos and you'll find a tribute to Freddie. Sorry to make you go through hoops, but TH-cam won't let me just post a link.
Happy was a HUGE ***HUGE*** Queen fan, her first fandom, knew every song by heart, very influential. She was devastated by Freddie's death. I wish she had done more covers.
You certainly did it justice
Ufffffff.... Excelente!!!!. Ésta mujer no canta nada mal eh!. Me gustó mucho su interpretación de LILY OF THE VALLEY.
Nice. With feelings, with your own style. that´s just making justice to freddie.
she is so likeable!
Magnifica
I believe everyone would agree he made him justice.
最初のキーのまま唄い続けたら
彼女は地獄を見るだろうと思った。
芯のある、とても強い歌声。素晴らしい。
Because he had said "impossible key" I just wanted to clear it up. It wasn't an insult to Happy, because we all know she has a very impressive voice.
Блестяще!
Not many if all. It's impressive that Happy can hit that note. Not many sopranos can hit that note. I think The Queen of The Night Aria by Mozart has a G6 in it, but it's a staccatoed "Ah".
You and me have! (And Happy!)
i wish she would perform it in the higher key- it sent goosebumps up my back....not that this version isn't beautiful..john....
Is there a PO Box where I can send a fan gift to Happy? Will you PM me if there is? Thanx Kate fan.
I'm not a trained musician but I do have two nieces who are both sopranos, one of whom has a sung Phantom of the Opera, hitting the E6. Happy has sung a higher note, a G-Sharp6, but the difference was that she wasn't singing words at that key, just "ah".
The Phantom piece was formless vocalizations, written to get that ugly SOB Andrew Lloyd Webber laid by Sarah Brightman.
How many opera singers actually sing words of an opera in that octave?
They key isn't that high, nor are the notes for that matter, the highest note, D5 are traditional for low female singers, like contraltos and mezzos.
i think freddie agrees
6 people left themselves in the wrong key.
Ohh, stop and just sing it. Stop patting yourself....
