I'm still sewing for winter, I'm behind, I just finished my Christmas shirt😊 I have a cozy button-down and a pair of corduroy pants to sew up yet. That yellow will be so cheery to wear this winter, it looks like a good color for you to.
Your plans sound perfect for this time of year. And what a treat for you to have that shirt made up for Christmas next year! Possibly sooner depending on how fully Christmassy it is. 😉
Two suggestions: make some bias tape in something like satin...feels kind of elevated and fancy (the kind of thing that makes you smile and glad you sew) the dramatic difference in texture and reflectivity blurs slight color differences. Other suggestion: add strips of interfacing (try knit or weft...or maybe even light sew in...test) and just turn once and stitch. I am planning to try polar fleece overalls...but I am embracing the baby onsie vibe...I saw a video by Bronwyn Emma who made overalls in stretch velvet. I loved it but my stash did not contain sufficient yardage. Enter cornflower blue fleece. And you'd think it was planned, I am halfway through knitting a cardigan that includes the same color
I don't know why, but I love cornflower blue for cozy winter clothes. Your overalls sound like they will be awesome! And thanks for your suggestions for how to finish the edge of my jumpsuit. I'd probably go for the turning and stitching, as I don't really want to go and try and find the binding. I've had a few good suggestions, so I'm going to think about it before I cut anything out.
I can’t wait to see that knit Zadie! It sounds like perfection! For the neckline, can you do a a woven single fold bias and just flip it all in so that you don’t see any of it?
Oh, that's pretty clever. That would definitely take a lot of the bulk out. I've had tons of great suggestions. I'm always so grateful for this community!
I love the idea of a fleece jumpsuit! What fun. I think using a variety of fabrics on a tried and true pattern is an easy way to be automatically creative. Even if it turns out to be lounge wear, it will be a big win.
Look forward to seeing these made up. I am still on my winter makes I want to make a couple of long winter skirts, I have some wool left over after cutting out my cape so was thinking a nice matching waistcoat. and a contrasting skirt to go with it.
ooh a snuggly polar fleece jumpsuit sounds cosy. Layers are so good for this unpredictable UK weather! I've also made a couple of long sleeve t-shirts (ebony-closet core & Besties tee- pattern emporium) and am now planning to make the Balloon sleeve cardi by Wardrobe by me.
Zadie/ create a neckband like a T-shirt. Remove “x” around the crossover opening. Reduce band size so it doesn’t gape. Depending on how much actual stretch I usually cut neck bands to 80% of actual size
Hi Theresa. I'm looking forward to seeing your finished clothes. I had a thought about the jumpsuit. I've made a few Sew Over It Georgie dresses (the one that is like a faux wrap). This dress is supposed to be lined but I've never done that with mine, I just sew clear elastic along the neckline with a zig zag stitch. I then fold it in by 1 cm and then I sew it again. This way, thr neckline does not stretch and I don't have to line it or use any extra fabric.
Thanks for the video Theresa :) My project list is very long, and it's hard to know where to start :) Like you, I want a couple of quick wins. I have the Hepworth Pinafore from Sew Different on my list, and have some lovely corduroy to make it in so that I can wear it with leggings and a long leeve t-shirt. I am in the middle of a couple of quilts, and have also been asked to make my great-niece's prom dress - so need to get on with a toile for that. The list is long but, today, I have mostly been making friendship star blocks with half square triangles...
Oh wow, it does sound like you have a lot ahead of you. Your corduroy pinafore plan sounds so nice. I'm loving the whole outfit you've described. I would be terrified to make a prom dress for anyone other than myself (been there, and it was fun!). Wishing you the best of luck with that and hoping it isn't too stressful. I also hppe you get an easy fit right out of the packet! 🤞
Great plans! I am excited to see how your fleece Zadie turns out. I am still making cozy items but pivoting to a couple of specialty items for a late spring trip. Turns out I need a safari capsule. Thinking about lightweight, quick dry, sunsafe, versatile, colour coordinated travel clothes again 😊.
I find it so hard to get my head around sewing for the upcoming season. It makes sense when you have a trip to plan for, though. Your safari capsule sounds like a fun challenge. Good luck making it up!
I’m still into all the cozy things. I want to make a Southbank Sweater and a corduroy York pinafore and some turtleneck shirts. Looking to spring I want to make some button down shirts, a sagebrush blouse, and explore patterns in my stash I haven’t used yet.
Your winter ideas sound amazing. Definitely my vibe! It's such a good idea to focus on patterns that you already have in your stash. We were excited about these enough to buy them at some point, so it's a shame not to use them. Wishing you luck with your plans!
I love seeing your cozy sewing plans. I’ve been on a cozy sewing kick too and just finished a Stanton Hoodie Expansion in the dress view. For your Zadie, I wonder if you could just turn under the edge of the opening and topstitch it down. Another idea is to use a band like on the Mercier jumpsuit from Cashmerette.
I've actually had other people make those exact same suggestions for the zadie, and I'm trying to decide which way I want to do it. I definitely think it's doable, and it's making me more excited to try. The Stanton hoodie dress is such a good one. I love the one I have and feel like I need to think about what fabric I want to use for another version. What have you gone with for yours?
I am making tops nearly identical to your navy top. Making it from a cotton blend stretch knit that doesn't look like t-shirt fabric, thus suitable for work. The just above the elbow or just below the elbow sleeves can be worn year round. Am currently making a dress from the black fabric and will also sew up a top and some leggings. The leggings is an indulgence for me. I might make a red with black print cotton tunic to wear with it.
Living in a very cold climate (Minnesota), that fleece Zadie sounds like a winner! I'm also interested in the quilted jersey--it looks so sharp and I hope I can source some in the US. I am currently working on a vest made with leftovers sweater knits from other projects.
You definitely need all the coziness you can get in Minnesota over the winter! I love the sound of a patchwork sweater knit vest. What pattern are you using?
Great plans! I’m excited to see them all made up. I haven’t yet made a jumpsuit and am still not sure it is for me. I did just finish up my wearable toile of the Cashmerette Stanton with the expansion pack neckline variation and dress length. The fit is definitely quite right but I will wear it around the house during my working days from home when I am usually chilly. Today is a bit warmer in the US in Kansas than it has been so it’s a bit too warm in the house to wear it. Happy Sewing!
There's definitely a "just right" weather for sweatshirt dresses. As much as I enjoy my Stanton hoodie dress, I have to find the right opportunity to wear it. I hope you can figure out what adjustments you need though, because it's such a cute one to wear out! I always get compliments on mine.
Great plans! The cozy Zadie is peaking my interest. I’ve never sewn it, so I don’t know how much binding you need ( though I’ve heard it’s a lot), but what if you made a long neck band like on stretch wrap dresses. Happy sewing!
Hmm, that is a really intriguing idea. I feel like that would be such an easier way to sew it, but I would have to adjust the pattern pieces a little bit. The neck band would essentially have to be cut from the pattern pieces themselves, as the binding this jumpsuit folds over the edge of the pieces. I'm digging this idea, though. I will definitely consider it. Thank you so much!
Ooo super plans, that Zadie sounds so cosy. Wonder have you got the Cashmerette Mercier...that might help with sizing and offer binding options?? I have some French Terry that I keep going backwards and forwards between separates and a jumpsuit, The Zadie is a rare recurrent fail for me though, can't get it to fit so won't use that one! Love your ditsy jersey too 😊
True, that jumpsuit does have a lot of similarities! I like the zadie because the crossover works really well for me, and I don't want to start over with a new pattern. I'll definitely see how Cashmerette do it for the Mercier. Thanks for the suggestion!
The Zadie in the jumpsuit? Coming from Iowa, not too far from Chicago, I sew with polar fleece a lot. I use an old T-shirt or leftover cotton jersey scraps for binding and facings. At least trial your idea first, it can look thick very quickly.
@ size 14 stretch or jersey needle, a bigger needle than the fabric might suggest. 2 layers, 4 layers, can get thick. Just broke a needle finishing a polar fleece garment (pullover). Don’t post on IG anymore so can’t show you, but I work with kids and they sew fleece hats this time of year. They do just fine.
Great plans! That teal jumper is amazing on you.. the colour is perfect!! An adult onesie… yes please 🥶 😂😂😂
Haha, sounds ideal, right?

I suggest to cut one side of your fleece binding with pinking shears, it will give an interesting edge inside the jumpsuit.
Cute idea!

Ooo I’d love to see your FBA for dartless jersey! Love your plans and fabric, especially the mustard jersey as ice got one very similar. 💕
Cool, I will make a quick tutorial to share. It's hard to get your head around, but not actually too bad to do.
Love the idea of a winter Zadie. I am going to make my first Zadie but a summer one as l am in Australia.
I hope you love it! I really enjoy putting that pattern together. It's a definite winner for me.

Right? I don't see how I couldn't love wearing it, even if just at home. And I agree, it feels less risky knowing that this pattern works for me.
Look forward to seeing these made up. I am still on my winter makes I want to make a couple of long winter skirts, I have some wool left over after cutting out my cape so was thinking a nice matching waistcoat. and a contrasting skirt to go with it.
Ooh, those plans sound so nice! What a great way to use up scraps. I'd love to experiment with some wool next winter!

Those sound like perfect winter staples. Definitely things you'll reach for year after year!
@ yes, I hope so

Hi Theresa, I'd love a video on a dartless full bust adjustment 💙. Something I'm thinking about for my next set of sewn t-shirts
Cool, I'll put something together!
@@LostMyThread Fantastic! 🤩
I will be looking forward to seeing the zadie jumpsuit made up in that cosy fabric, thank you for being brave. x
We will see. I'm quietly optimistic!

We are having a cold snap and I realized I needed more cozy stuff. I think using the fleece is an excellent idea.
Cool, I hope it works! And yes, when the cold weather comes, all I want to do is sew cozy things!

I've got that quilted fabric also. Making ressac and jogging bottoms even though mine is only a 2way stretch. Lovely fabric ❤

Hey Theresa! Good to see you! You’ve got really good makes ahead of you!
Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to working on these.
