    Bro thanks for these videos. When I first started I barely made any money because I didn't know what to charge. Even until recently I was working like a dog for $500 a day doing good work, I watched guys like you and realized I was short changing myself and upped my price to around $800 - $1000 a day. You should make more videos on the business side of things. Thanks

      Will do 👍 it is tough to evaluate things, it takes time to realize what things cost yearly for your business. $500 a day sounds like a lot, but not once you incorporate your expenses to stay in business

      I'm with you. I really don't know what to charge, how to charge. There's a lot of guys willing to work for a lot less, so I'm either over rating and losing business or under rating and losing my arse. Its a losing game until you get several clients who trust you and call you back for more work or refer you to people they know. Once you get past the initial friends & family business, the real sweat of looking for work begins.

    Steve, I want to thank you for all of the great content you create and share. I discovered you almost 5 yrs ago while redoing 3 bathrooms in my home and your videos and live Q&A sessions helped me tremendously.
    I have construction experience and felt confident in my skills, but I learned many of the little nuances from you!
    I've done 5 more bathrooms since and finally bought your Geek membership, as the more I do, the more I realize what I don't know.
    The level is detail in the courses is incredible, a terrific value for the money. It's obvious you have spent considerable time & effort in detailing every little step in each of the separate courses. Whether you are a DIY or contractor, I , highly recommend Steve's courses. They are priceless!

    Did an old bathroom with mud bed walls and floors and it was the worst one I’ve ever done. Was a solid 4 days of demo bc it was literally chipping away with a heavy demo hammer piece by piece and it just wouldn’t come down easy. Not to mention the wire mesh was nailed on to the studs with more nails and staples then u can imagine. I got royally hosed on the bid bc my tile guy did the estimate not knowing that they were plaster and lath walls and then mudbed floors and lower walls as well. Plaster ceiling too. He just does tile so I did all the demo, electrical and plumbing and framing and all finishes. Luckily there were plumbing issues and the entire subfloor needed replaced and reframing and I was able to make up some of my losses there. Those smaller really old plaster/mud bed walls and floors are physically brutal and in super small bathrooms usually. Just hauling out the debris is an unbelievable task and believe me u will have earned all that money. A few months later bud a similar bath and charged $3800 for demo down to all the studs and the homeowner thought that was high. After the first day he made me a steak off his grill and handed me an iced cold lemonade and apologized about questioning the demo portion. He could believe the pace I kept and the amount of work it was. When ur starting out bidding jobs never be afraid to bid what your worth and always know if u figure two days for demo it will prob be 3!!!

    Them prices are legit! I have demoed lots of mudbed walls and floors from the 60s and 1970s here in LA,which is Lower Alabama, south central Alabama, there is very few tile installers also so there is plenty of work with not much competition

    How do you feel about starting a acrylic shower vs tile shower company which has more room to scale

    • @BathroomRemodelingTeacher
      @BathroomRemodelingTeacher  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      That’s a great question. If I were to start a new business it would be targeting tub to shower conversions. Avoid really old homes of course. the boomers need it. Acrylic can be quick & easy money. Not always the most eye catching but definitely profitable. There are a lot of options out there. Guess it also depends on your clientele. If you think most need to be under $10k stick to acrylic

    Save your arms! Get a Snap on long barrel air hammer with a long wide bit. 4x lighter than electric chipping hammers and 2x the power! Removes floor tile, bricks, thin concrete, and caked on make up with ease.😊

    Real old homes would build a box within the floor joists and put about 4 inches of concrete, then the mortar bed , and then the tile. . . . jackhammer time
    Keep at it!

    Unbelievable. $1200 for hauling and dumpster fees? Who in the world charges that? Ur labor fees are completely out of whack due to you doing all the work. You could pay 3 guys to do a complete gut down to studs and still come out for less than $4K. Try to have some value for the customer.

    • @MrDougiefresh69
      @MrDougiefresh69 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I sorta agree with you but I believe there is value either way. $1200 is not terrible here in CA, you can find someone to do it for way cheaper but you would not be getting the same care as the person who is charging more. But like I said I agree with you just depends on customer I think.

      You have no idea how hard this is on the body and lungs. To Carry this dead weight down a stairwell into a dumpster, ( or truck bed to then picnic up again to throw out), all while not damaging anything and keeping dust free.
      Add in the fact your pushing, pulling, prying, on things that have been designed to stay where they are. Don't forget constantly getting in your knees and standing again.
      4000$ is spot on for the amount of absolute SHIT labor it takes to be professional, clean and be timely.
      At the end of the day it's our body on the line and our accrued knowledge over time. If the homeowner wants to pay someone 1/4 of the price that's exactly what you're going to get in return. 1/4 the professional.

    • @WhateverItsanOpinion
      @WhateverItsanOpinion 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are full of Shit.. You have no idea what you are talking about. 500 would just be dumpster cost. Labor is 18 to 20 per hour. And it would take 2 days. 600 to 800 in labor. Plus PPE cost another 80..
