Jakarta is sinking. Without action, almost a third of the city will be lost to the sea within the next decades. Irresponsible development and lack of maintenance of the city s waterways are to blame.
Low-lying Jakarta relies on its canals against flooding but their maintenance has been poor. About 50-80% of the capacity is gone because of the sediment and the solid waste. That translates from a flood every 50 years, to one every 2 or 5 years. Slums are most affected but they re not alone. Everyone s immobilised when the floods occur . While the poor rummage in brown sludge in search of rubbish to sell, the rich escape to luxurious malls. But these add to the problem: When a city develops it gets heavier. The combination of water being extracted and creating vacuums in the aquifer means the city is pushed downwards . The choice is clear: either stop groundwater extraction or build a massive sea wall off Jakarta s coast, and if not one of the world's great cities will be lost.

They've invited their old european masters to help them with their problems. Another words a population of 35million people cannot even find enough people to whom are bright enough to solve some pretty obvious straight forward issues, with logical answers... and yet all this development is the white mans way anyways and if you want to survive, progress, and maybe even florish... you'll need to bring usn back into those positions of rule and power... Jakartan was an well oiled machine when the Dutch left in 1956. And all these places have gone to hell since us Europeans have been asked to leave, but this modern age development is the white mans way. The people of the city of Jakarta have swollowed their pride and old colonial lands you'll need to realize bring us back into posistions requiring those traits we've always excelled in. Remember its our Roman blood that has created our greatness and thios notion of how all created equal.... sorry that not true!

Jakarta in modern day 2016 cannot solve these problems of today; Those same problems had been solved four hundred yrs ago by techniques and technoloogies of the most impressive European races, the Dutch. But is that mental that a people of today cannot solve a problem that another group had solved with theyre abilities and tools of a by-gone era...

The main factors for flooding in major cities all over the world is sinking watertable caused by huge populations, Wells digging and urbanization of wetland areas. It’s the same for all cities built on estuaries.
So the Dutch stopped a city that was sinking into the sea did they? Well that must be some obscure history you're reading, saving a place being surrounded by rising water, and not a land mass attached to a large continent from flooding are two very different things.
