    I remember performing this trick for someone and when I got to the "how much would you bet" he confidently stated "I'll bet you a million bucks it's not." So I paused, considered, and with a shake of my head said "no, that just wouldn't be fair" as I flipped his card.

      Brian eating fire and telling us not to do it at home, only with a profession was why I learned to eat fire. I was like "If you're showing how and 'wink winking' at us not to do it, I'm gonna do it. If you're showing me how and genuinely asking me not to teach myself, I'm DEFINITELY gonna repeat it!

    As soon as Brian had them each cut the deck, I was thinking “would you be amazed if the next card I turn over is your card”? Key card principle at work. Loved this trick when I first learned it from Scam School.

    Been doing this one for years. A great thing is if you have them shuffle, if they are sloppy enough you can spot the bottom card WHILE they shuffle. Then you can do the trick without ever touching the deck. Makes it a real miracle. (If you don’t spot the bottom, just pick the deck up and do it normally)

    If someone does do the triple cut, which *does* change some of the deck order, all is not necessarily lost. I would just trudge ahead. The reason is, it'll only mix up the keycard order if they happen to do one of the two cuts exactly between the keycard and the chosen card, which thankfully is somewhat on the rare side. In fact, if you purposely start the trick with cutting in the middle, you can pretty much guarantee someone doing a triple cut won't wreck it. BUT it could happen, and so you don't get a free beer that time around. 🤷🏻‍♂

  • @DanHoke
    @DanHoke ปีที่แล้ว +4

    My grandfather taught me this trick 40 years ago with the free beer closer and everything. I have a variation where I "smell" the cards to see which one they touched.

  • @goadken

    Funny thing, I learned this trick too but without the "going past the chosen card" bit. I added going past the chosen card myself and thought I was a genius. lol I have been using this ever since in various ways. And, I am always stunned at how many people are fooled by it. Great video! Big question though.. What's with all of the water and no beer? Cheers!

    If 80% of the time you get it right is good enough for you, they can pretty much do anything to the deck and as long as its limited you still get it right.most of the time.

    This was the first card trick I learned, and I found it in the great Mark Wilson's book. But the biggest magical moments I've ever had in life was when I perform my version of the "lie detection" trick you - Brian - taught me (i.e. the one using the phone as a shine). That was just an awesome trick, best one I know. I wish I could have you see me performing it.

    This is legit the best and easiest trick ever! I'm not a magician at all but I perform this trick often (both variations )and I people are amazed by this. The only hard part is the presentation and wording...sometimes people will quickly cut the deck into 4 or 5 parts or do an overhand shuffle and it will mess it up and I just hope the key card is still next to it. Sometimes I get lucky. Other times I fail. Oh well

  • @lazylazerrsp8781
    @lazylazerrsp8781 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The best part about card tricks is when you learn a few, then mix and match them to trip the person because you aren't using the same trick and process over and over.
    The worst part is when you get a smartass who doesn't follow the instructions and ruins the trick. "Haha very funny you bamboozled the magician because you saw through the trick and purposely broke it"... except the end result is that they just revealed they couldn't follow even simple instructions. I used to run a gambit of card and rubberband tricks, but the card tricks i had to pick and choose who i did it to and the degree of control. The partypoopers i never hand them the deck during the trick or else when i say "cut" they do a full on bridge shuffle and i just have to admit they ruined the whole thing. I just gradually stopped performing tricks for them since they clearly only enjoyed themselves by ruining it for others.

    Okay this gave me an idea. You mentioned you wouldn't touch the cards again but both times you did. This would be more risky but what if you had the spectator flip them. But then I thought what if they go to fast. So here is the big step up, have them read out each card as they flip it (slows them down) but now you really play it up as mentalism and you don't even look at the cards. No way you marked them. You are just listening to their tone and you can "hear the slight variation in tone" as they say their card out loud. In the chance their card is first the trick doesn't really work that well. Idk claim some Bs like you didn't get to establish a baseline

Then in a flow state, it appears twice. Who knows, may we find it in practice and performance. Maybe we're being commandeered in the matrix. Maybe we're born with it. Maybe it's...
