Sheet vinyl faux wood flooring went in my last rig and going into my new one. Don't get that plank stuff that sticks together, It'll peel up and crack in low temperatures. They have it at Home Depot, I was going to get the plank stuff and the person working there said they put it in their 5th wheel and regret it because of cracking and curling up with Montana's extreme high and low temps. Works great and easy to install! Hate all the carpet in RV's who thought that was a good idea! Both my Toyota RV's had it even in the bathroom.
Sweet canopy! You could set it on 4 wide logs and not have to duck if you really wanted, only have to hit your head a few times to remember haha!

Did mine two years ago with Home Depot ceramic impregnated stick on tiles and Lumber Liquidators stick on vinyl tile strips. Has lasted from cold -20 New England winters ( with no heat) to hot muggy Florida summers...and a dog too! Easy and very happy with results. Just make sure sub floor is clean and free from dirt and grease.

Look into MARMOLEUM which is a sheet linoleum type flooring. I'd stay away from any tile type flooring and also laminate. Stick with a sheet product, and a top quality one at that. Marmoleum has a commercial grade which will hold up. Look for flooring remnants stores where you can pick up a piece to fit your needs cheaper than going retail. I agree with those who suggested having it professionally installed. You should be able to negotiate prices on a remanent which installers had left over from another job. Smart not to jump in and rush this job. You'll run across the right solution if you're not in a hurry. I installed Marmoleum in my kitchen, as did a friend, and it was a little cushiony which was easy on my feet and knees. Phoney wood floor won't hold up. If you're going to put down a hard wood surface, maybe bamboo would suit your needs in price, durability and variety. For such a small space, splurge and get REAL hardwood, and have it professionally installed. My first vote is for Marmoleum, however.

I've seen some vids where they used vinyl planks rather than the squares. A floating floor like wood laminate is nice too, they feel good under your feet. But you do have to use a special barrier material under those. Yep. You will do your homework & get it done the right way. Nice little awning there too!

If you were in my town, I'd get you all set up because I deal in floors all day long. Stay away from any self-stick vinyl tiles, they always pop up form the cold. Laminate is not water friendly- wood in the product will warp from wet mopping or water left on the surface. Plus it can be scratched, nicked, etc. Vinyl plank would work; Cortec One and Metroflor make good products. Sheet vinyl is another option- Marmoleum is a really good product as well. Good luck!

Wood laminate worked well for me. You could do the same where your carpet was or throughout entire interior. Like the durability and ease of cleaning. There are inherent problems with glue and moisture/temp changes and self stick tiles I didnt like, so I didn't consider that option.

Tips that may be helpful. Leave old tile down and Google " how to emboss a floor" you can put vinyl tile over the existing floor. Just emboss the whole thing and especially where the old tile ends so there's no height difference. No matter if you use the self stick tile buy some glue and a trowel, use flat side of the trowel for self stick. That pretty much primes the floor of dust and dirt so the tiles will stick for years. Make sure you mark the layout before glueing.

If you have not installed new carpet, go ahead and seal the underlayment to prevent odors, I suggest that you install heated elements for electric heating that you could run off of a battery storage bank. Then for the floor install laminate, easier cleaning.

The canopy would be great for picnics and sitting at the beach.
My friend sanded her flooring then primed it. Painted the floor and put sealer instead of vinyl or linoleum. You would want floor scarlet runners for comfort and sound barrier. So many options during the wait stage.

  • @chadsteele1

Get rid of the carpet by the stairs, use linoleum, then you can sweep stuff right out the door. I did this in my trailer some years back. The like you said, replace the linoleum all the way through, plus get rid of carpet under the table, for spills. you can put a throw rug down. those are my thoughts. Cheers from BC.

  • @lobsterbushbroo

I would probably choose vinyl plank over linoleum in your case. Much easier for one person to lay and you could work on it in sections where the linoleum would need to be laid in one sheet in order to avoid seams. I did flooring professionally for a few years and still do some side jobs, if you need to ask any questions Eric feel free.
That canopy would be great for music festivals that make you carry your stuff to your site instead of camping by your car!

  • @kevinj8258
    @kevinj8258 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

just looked at the canopy on amazon. the weight is great. Only complaints on amazon are that its fragile and the legs can get jammed with dirt and sand, or they could warp if you force them back together. So be very careful with it, as any wind that tosses it even slightly will warp a leg and then the canopy is no good.Alternative for $30 more ($90) is the Coleman brand version at a taller height; and supposedly stronger legs. But also much heavier.Time will tell Eric. Good luck with it as long as you baby it, it will work fine.

Pull out all the old vinyl and get down to one continuous level, or you will be sorry! I'm doing this too. Just bought the stick down vinyl planks. :( Guess I'll take them back. Thanks for comments. Don't get snap together (floating) wood planks. They'll warp without climate control (learned the hard way). I second the cork tiles. Awesome stuff that laughs at moisture. I didn't go with cork because of dog nails, but if put down correctly, it'll last 50yrs. Good for your back too. I like that shade. I have a full awning on my 23' class c, I'll trade you. :) For the litterbox, why not just frame around the bottom with 1"x2"s?

That spot on the floor looks about where your rear differential is. The pinion seal could be leaking and flinging up to the floor and soaking up from the bottom.

Great new video Eric!!! Thanks for all of the super content!! I just love the clips of Jax!!! Jax is sooo cute!!! You might consider a water barrier inside your RV under the new linoleum. The water barrier is a fairly inexpensive product you can buy at Lowe's or Home Depot. Also you might consider a left over piece of linoleum at Lowe's or Home Depot. I just redid my small laundry closet and purchased a left over piece of linoleum from Lowe's for about $5. I'm not sure about the Lowe's or Home Depot near you buy my Lowe's keeps this kind of item near the scratch and dent appliances. Thanks Eric!!! :)

Hi Eric. Good idea to redo the floor. I would not use laminate as it is not waterproof. I like the Alure flexible vinyl strips which are easier to use in a small space. Install luan underlayment for a smooth and level base. Ck the videos on this project. Most use adhesive in at least some areas for the flooring. Great results!

I think one sheet of vinyl would be best. You can always find remnants of the stuff at big box stores. Cut it yourself and put it down. I would definitely do vinyl under table and on steps. So much easier to maintain. And if all the flooring is the same, your RV will seem bigger.

Free camping at walupt lake and it's usually pretty quiet out there. It's about 25 miles south from Packwood. It's absolutely beautiful at this lake. The bluejays and snow birds will catch chunks of food out of mid air. It's really a place to enjoy!

The glue on the back of the tiles allows the tiles to slide as you walk on them and you end up with gaps. This is from experience. This was a bathroom application so it got humid and damp when showing etc...

seeing as you have got the project started, i would sugest puttings in some nice hardwood even though the price can be around $80/20sqaure foot box the end result will be nice. i would discourage you from using a cheap engineered laminate but if you are looking for that look there is a flooring material called flexy plank that can look just like laminate but is easier to install and if a piece gets damaged it is very simple to life one out and put a new one in.

  • @GypsyRebel

A word of advice on wood laminate flooring. I put it in my kitchen and entryway and have found it doesn't hold up well. Any kind of liquid will leak between the planks and cause swelling. There is a brand available that won't do this but it is a bit costly but in the long run probably worth it. Just FYI.

Eric, I'm interested in what you finally find for new flooring. The new types of stick on flooring tiles are nice, and much easier to work with your RV. Measuring all the corner notches, etc. can be difficult with a rolled solid piece of flooring. We put retro black and white stick on tiles in our pantry and it's great. Not overly expensive and easy to replace if one tile gets damaged. I hope you don't mind me suggesting, but have you thought of getting a different shaped litter box for Jax. That round litter box is taking up a lot of space as compared to an oblong or square type. I don't know how that climbing post section right in view of your TV is going work out. Can you tell I'm an "organizer". LOL! I sure enjoy your videos! and Jax!

My class A has a floating floor like the wood laminate but it's vinyl. In my van I put the interlocking wood laminate. It's soooo pretty but I hear it doesn't hold up well. And I've heard from others that the peel and stick stuff is horrible. I use lots of large bath rugs from Walmart. They have a rubber base and don't slide (for my 96 pound dog), and are big... But small enough to throw in a washer once a week

Regular laminate flooring is not good with high moisture or high humidity but there are water proof laminates that cost a little more and there is also vinyl that looks like wood and that would be perfect. The square stick down tiles would not stay down very good either.

The only thing about wood laminate flooring is if you spill anything on it and it sits just a little too long the boards will begin to bow and warp. There is a vinyl type that is much better. it wont warp and is extremely flexible.

that spot looks to be from that unit and just hasn't damaged the plywood(be thankful they didn't use MDF I've actually seen this) yet. Give it about another 4-8 months. I think your have to unmount and jacktand the cabin to replace most RV floors and you use treated 3/4 plywood and stainless or "hot dipped" hardware and don't let the cabin stay closed for weeks at a time do to treated lumber fumes. You can also tar the plywood. Most people will tell you to use non-treated do to fume build up but you circulate air at a working rate.

Canopy looks good. Might I suggest going to the Grand Canyon, Eric. If you haven't been there before, it's well worth the trip. There's a nice campground there, about $18 a night I think. June would be a good month to go, just make reservations to the campground before you go, if not, there is one just outside the park.

  • @shanusav
    @shanusav 8 ปีที่แล้ว

wood laminate is good, but you will need to be aware that the cheaper stuff will soak up water. They are not recommended for kitchens or bathrooms. Your entry would probably bring in some moisture and your kitchen might too. A high end laminate would do nicely though and most have very simple snap together systems that make installation relatively simple... though it seems most people still screw it up. Laminates are usually free floating with a foam pad underneath. They need to be trimmed out with quarter-round on the walls and special transition pieces to carpet and vinyl. If you went to the edge of the step it would take another special transition there. Only needed tool would be a chop saw or at least circular saw, even a battery powered circular saw would suffice if you are patient for the batteries to recharge. Cutting in corners can be a bit tricky, but with patience anyone can do it.

Time to get back on the road. Sorry I can't help you with the floor situation. Check with a RV Dealer.

I would consider redoing the whole floor with vinyl. Check out a couple of flooring stores to see what they recommend and what you like. Get an estimate to see how much for them to install. The times I have seen people install vinyl, it was extremely fast and professional looking. Then again, you are pretty much a do it yourself kinda guy and you wont read the comment anyway LOL!good luck and keep the great videos coming.

I had something similar I a bought locally here in Japanland.
Mine has bungee anchors that clip into a hole.
I like my version better as I can see that velcro wearing out.
On the other hand, I like the sun shade part on yours better.

Eric the vinyl wood look would look awesome. I'm sure there's an adhesive u could use that would b weather resistant. Definitely replace linoleum at the same time.

Personally I'd rip up ALL the vinyl as well as the all the remaining carpet. Then replace everything with a single sheet of new vinyl. That way there are no seams to deal with. To cut it take some heavy craft paper and make a template to fit. Glue it down and add some vinyl trim around the edges. Seal the corner between the floor and trim with clear silicone and you have a shallow tub. Any water, dirt, whatever wouldn't be able to get under the cabinets or walls.
Or another idea. You could get tintable bed liner coating. (U-Pol Products 0821 RAPTOR Tintable Bed Liner is stuff I've used) You use automotive base color to tint it, Get it through an automotive paint shop Pick a color and roll that on. Would seal the floor, give you an easy to clean surface and probably last longer than the rest of the rig...

This video makes me wonder if Epoxy flooring would holdup in an RV. I would think that it wouldn't be flexible enough. I am interested in seeing what you come up with. Safe travels and peace to you.

Why was I hearing the sound track from Jaws in my mind when you said tear up carpet??? Hopefully MaryAnn will let me tear up this in the Minnie BUT it's CARPET and gets dirty even with the dealer plastic on it! Thanks for the heads up about the temperature with linoleum. Looks like wood is the next idea I can think of. I just can't wait to have to scrape the old linoleum up and even the carpet. I've watched some of the manufactures put an RV or trailer together, and a LOT of glue is laid down under both as they piece them together!
Ever have a pressure relief valve on an Atwood water heater go bad and pop and allow the pump to pump the water out? Just happened this am! It was the original one from '01 and it was corroded like crap when I was checking it out! Lucky there was a RV place close by! Everyone think about when the last time you 'exercised' your valves?
We are parked at relatives and were lucky there was a place with one in stock! We are heading to Yellowstone Monday after Memorial Day here and that would NOT have been fun if in the Park and it went bad! I wonder if this happens in tanks with an anode rod?
I'm thinking the last owner was not into maintenance! That's about all we are finding wrong are small maintenance problems or blown fuses! Well except for their driving under a low hanging something with the TV mast up! This is fun fixing! Not a single You Tube video on fixing the roof damage after that kind of strike! LOL ! Figuring it out as I go! Fiberglass, wood, glue and gel coat repair videos and I think I got it! LOL!
Now would you PLEASE hold on to all the freaking rain you're sending to Montana! Haven't had the heat or clear sky's needed to do the work while parked doing other repairs on this rig while not doing the one job I must do! LOL!
    Blue Sky's and Safe Journeys!

Great Flooring for RVs is ALLURE by Armstrong. Available at Home Depot in various colors and styles. This comes in Planks which self adhere together. You can install it as a floating floor or you can adhere it to the sub floor. Check out Pippi Peterson's TH-cam video on how she installed the floor in her RV.

Eric I have a little better than 13 square feet of wood grain snap together vinyl floor tiles over here in Lacey. If there is not quite enough you can purchase more at Home Depot. You can install it as a floating floor or get some glue and stick it down. Anyway it is free just drop me a line if you want it and come and get it.
