Sorry, malietoa is not a king. Only Salamasina the first Tupu Tafaiafa o Samoa, and Fonoti the second Tuputafaifa o Samoa. Get your facts right.

@2.30 - That is a tremendous bit of Samoan culture and history on display right there when Gov. Tauese Sunia respectfully refused his ava cup and asked that if Faatui ma Tootoo was giving it to him because it was the alofi sa of the Tui Manu'a, then it is misplaced because there is no more Tui Manu'a. However, given that the Malietoa was present, the Malietoa should take the cup of the Tui Manu'a. if they were giving it to him out of respect of his office as the Governor of the government of Tutuila and Manu'a, then it is the wish of the government of AS that the Head of State of Samoa be accorded the first ava. Superb oratory.

Generally they were all there not as a sii but to perform their respective auala as a mark of respect to Malietoa as their high chief.

Note that not all funeral si'is are this elaborate but because of Malietoa's status being paramount (his title and Head of State position) you can see that the manaias are outfitted in their tuigas (headress), the aumagas (non-matai) sporting weapons (axes & shot gun)...it's all out of reverence and respect to Malietoa

To put it simply, that's the si'i toga (presentation and exchanging of gifts - fine mats, money & food) from Manu Samoa Falealili District to the grieving Malietoa family. Other districts and villages also took their si'is (Lufilufi, Solosolo)

    • @rhwolf5255

+Taga Loa - Tagaloa is a title that the Samoans gave themselves. It doesn't make a common Polynesian deity Samoan. References to Tangaloa/Tagaloa are found in Tongan, Samoan, Cook Island, Hawaiian and Maori mythology.

+SacTownUso - You seem the most confused. Tui Tonga lineage began with Aho'eitu, supposed son of the deity Tangaloa back in 950 A.D. It is said he was the Tui Tonga who established the Tongan Navy and conquered parts Samoa and Fiji. I would agree that there potentially is Samoan blood within the Tui Tonga history - Haʻa Tuʻi Kanokupolu is indeed a Royal Tongan lineage that started from a chiefly marriage between Moʻunga ʻo Tonga and Tohuʻia, a Samoan woman from Savaii. However, there are numerous chiefly elections, assassinations and uprisings in the history of T'ui Kanokupolu, it's hardly a Samoan bloodline in this day and age.

RHWolf Tonga had power in samoa in AD 1200 ruling Samoa till AD 1600 when Samoa attacked the Tongans and chased them out, Tui Tonga of the l that generation said, Ua Malie Toa, Ua malie Tau, brave warrior, brave fight, also said next time he returns he will return as a friend, and that still remains unbroken

@@UsoEmz91 the reason why the king of Tonga stayed in Savaii Islands is because he was from Manu'a islands of Samoa, his blood is Samoan Mao'i the Tui Tonga is a Samoan title given to govern the islands in the south, the meaning of the word Tonga, it means south because the king Manu'a Fitiaumua conquered Tonga And Fiji before the arrivals of Melanesians, the first element in Tonga were melanesians not Polynesians king Tui Manu'a Fitiaumua and his army invaded those part of Melanesia and push the melanesians back to west most point of Fiji, the name Fitiaumua means "Fiji first and foremost", Fiji was named after this king of Samoa to remind Fiji that we're the kings of Samoa and we're the sons of TAGALOA, Tonga means south because one of our king invaded Tonga created the Tui Tonga to push back the melanesians, search up king Tui Manu'a Fitiaumua and will understand the connection between Samoa and Tonga

@@UsoEmz91 no Tonga was defeated in 1250AD, that's when Tuna & Fata existed. 1500's-1600's is when Ama existed, came with his entourage in support of his daughter & end up staying in Tonga. Tui Kanokupolu became the king of these people, first given Tui Hihifo to govern them & then given Tui Kanokupolu title by Ama. Tohuia ask her father to support her son Ngata, Ama help Ngata to establish his own dynasty with all the Samoans who went Tonga as his people.
