Samsung Galaxy A51 Review | Quad camera beast for £300

- Reviewing Samsung's Galaxy A51 smartphone, a £300 budget-friendly version of those flagship handsets with quad lens rear camera, Exynos smarts, 4000mAh battery and One UI 2.0 on board. I've been testing the A51 as my full-time phone and here's my full thoughts on whether it's your best mid-range option.
While most attention is locked on the new Galaxy S20 series, the A-series blowers offer a similar experience for a cheaper price. This smartphone offers a flexible quad lens rear camera, complete with most of Samsung's usual features. That includes the night mode, live focus and the emoji nonsense. One UI brings plenty of extra additions and stronger security to Android 10 - go check out my full tips and tricks guide to see my favourite bits on the Galaxy A51.
Performance is reasonably smooth, although you'll see the occasional stutter and pause here and there from that Exynos platform. Thankfully the 4000mAh battery keeps you going all day without much stress.

Got my A51 last week and i really like it, it has more than enough of the features i want and the screen is awesome for the price and i find the phone speed to be good too...i paid £319 for it which meant i could go sim free and save a fair bit of money on my EE bill as well each month

There is a sorta "S" version, the S10 lite.
I'm really waiting for one. I just really like this phone, way more than than the A71 because the A51 is way more compact. The only thing that's holding me back is the Exynos 9611. Hope that they upgrade that to a 7 series snapdragon in the s version

I've had one about 2 weeks now. I feel exactly the same about it pretty much. You mentioned the notifications sometimes not showing up until you unlock the phone. They went overly aggressive with the battery optimizations in my opinion. I think they tried to hide the weaker battery in it by making it aggressive by default. I tweaked my battery optimizations and it helped quite a bit with notifications showing up. I have noticed that when the same number calls me back to back the ringtones seem to change for no reason. Its quite annoying lol
Now, if I'm determined to buy and, by the way, what application do you use to have those wallpapers I like

When I first saw the phone in real life (it was off not on) I thought that the screen was a little bit small and not as big as other phones now so what do u think about this?

Nice review thanks. I went for an A71 in the end. I guess you'll be doing a review but one maddening artificial limitation of seems to have is a limit of 3 registered fingerprints. Please let people know.
What a stupid nitpick
I had this phone for one day and I've returned it because unfortunately it was very slow and clunky. Gorgeous design but weak performance. It was a 4gb ram UK version.
I had a bad experience from A70 as well. I have touch issues where the joystick is not responding when im playing games. Im never buying any samsung midrange again

Well, today I've received the replacement which is a honor 20. Man this phone is a beast and costs also 30£ less then the a51. Highly recommend this one

I have an A51 for one year and ultimately the only thing that doesn't work is the thumbprint reader. Otherwise really happy with this phone and the screen hasn't scratched at all even though its in my work pocket all the time

This phone probably will sell well here in the UK. It is a known brand, does most things like the camera and social media, and most importantly not too expensive. Only negative if you call it that, is the processor is not as strong as some rivals. But then there is the A71 which has a better processor and slightly bigger screen.

In your opinion would you buy this or huawei nova 5t.. I'm thorn between the two
I've just ordered one for my business. Should be delivered tomorrow and user will be my daughter, who's choice this is. Hope it lasts longer than her iPhone6 which has a dodgy battery and full memory. At least this phone comes with plenty of memory as standard and a micro-SD card slot for massive storage at low cost. Hope reception is OK because many of our business records and apps are cloud-based.
I don't like in-display fingerprint sensors. A family member has a phone that uses this and it unlocks if another family member with a similar print uses it.

Currently there’s no official US version of this phone being selling anywhere in the state. But the Latin America version is around $299 for the 4GB RAM version.
Got this phone and it was good but I exchanged it for the a71 ...WAY WAY better. I would go for the a71 over this phone if your looking for a samsung

Binned !! Spent slightly more on the one plus nord the difference is night and day.
Have the phone for almost a week now. Super dissapointed. I was thinking between this and a mi 9t/ 9t pro. Opted for this because i was like, meh, pop up camera.
i do change quite often my phones. Was using a huawei mate 20 (not lite, not pro). such a huge diference. mate 20 still takes better photos. reacts way faster at any task. And battery is just terrible at a51. had to charge it every evening, without using it too much and with half of the apps i used on mate 20. i used the a51 few days ago for Karnaval. daylight photos are ok. but if someone is dancing, moving or you are in a club- just terrible. i know mate 20 is not a midranger- but a51 is not the cheapest...will go for nova 5t, honor 20 or a xiaomi.

I have the A50, I have had so many issues with the mobile. But I said to myself wait until the A52 comes out for a decent upgrade. But from the specs it looks like it'll be a great upgrade!

@@alexandermiller5034 well i do a bit , like the letters are a bit pixelated but it's been a month now and it's not actually that big of a problem , its fine and i forget abaout it and the colours are very nice tho . Oh and the model i have didn't come with a case and is 4gb ram . I have checked i can see pixels on other a51 devises too

Just ordered this after watching your review. The only issue I may have is face unlock as I always unlock with my eyes closed, especially when driving. ;-)
Unfortunately it's going back, started lagging and freezing with battery lasting a day and that was barely using it. Just supped the juice (fnar fnar). Contract cancelled and bought a Motorola G8 Power instead.

Light Slim good display great camera. Twin sims. Stupid twin button turn off alter the side key its better, face detect works and finger print is OK as long as you get a good screen protector. Case is important due to slippy back. Took mine to India and back it will take a knock from Tyson. For £325 + £50 off from samsung its a bargain at £275 and I have retired my samsung s9.

I had this phone for 3 weeks, today it fell to the floor and the screen smashed.... not bothered the phone is just rubbish. The camera is the worst, I have never seen such false looking grainy pictures. It is slow to respond and the reason it smashed is the glastic body slides off of everything you put it on... Do yourself a favour avoid this rubbish waste of money

Got the phone and not happy.
BT connection to my jbl charge 3 stops every few seconds, edge lightning doesen´t work.
i can configure it but the effects are not shown, only a small dot in the top with my chosen colour.
touchscreen is not responsive or sometimes TO responsive.
When i´m gaming, the phone get´s laggy after 5 minutes
phone is on the latest fresh released firmware....

I think it has. Go to carphone warehouse, it's £400 unlocked with a lot of storage and ram. It's a good secure website and you can go buy it from the shop too!

It's optical Fingerprint scanner is cheap, even the one on the Mate 20 pro DETROYS it.
