  • Are you feeling "stuck" in pentatonic boxes and scales when you are improvising?
    Want to break out of them and get some fresh, new ideas into your playing?
    This lesson will help you do exactly that. And it's easier than you think...and all you'll need is your ears!
    ------
    In this lesson, I'm going to give you ONE NOTE to help you break out of the typical pentatonic scale / box. If you feel you are in a rut, this will take your guitar playing to a whole new level.
    Grab your guitar, and play along with the examples!
    Enjoy!
    Adam

    Here's why I made this lesson - most lessons on how to "break out of pentatonic boxes" are just really "here's how to connect one pentatonic box to another pentatonic box" which of course keeps a blues player in the same ballpark melodically - meaning you don't "break out" of anything. Penatonics and blues have a certain melodic behavior which feels impossible to escape. Here's a new sound that will get you out of that "behavior."
    This lesson is different. It is designed in a NON theory, NON mode way to simply get you in touch with playing a new "sound." Once you get in touch with this sound, other jazz sounds will be easier to play.
    After this lesson you will have truly "broken out of pentatonics" and be on your way to using a more LUSH harmonic vocabulary!
    Let me know what you think in the comments below!

    I like the way you explain it that we learn from: Visual, Auditory, Kinestetic and Intelectual. Yes I feel it like that. Somebody can explain me anything, but when there is nothing to visualize, it will be very hard for me to comprehend. I need to make my own sketch to understand. Thank you very much Adam. Cheers from Indonesia.

    Had me mesmerized, till 08:16, that picture of Doris Johnson with a guitar, playing above the capo - had to google it. Now back to the video...
    Fascinating stuff, I'd not come across this before, or if I had, I totally missed it
    I'm going to have to come back to this again tomorrow.

    Hi! Thanks for the lesson. I like this sound you are exposing. I'm brazilian, but my mother listen to Sade and Benson since I was kid, so it's kind of familiar. My question is: when may I use it? What kind of progression I know it can be used?
    Anyway, congratulations, I've seeing your videos for a long time, you are a one man band! Have fans in Brasil!

    • @adamrafferty
      @adamrafferty  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Allyson - that's a longer conversation. RThe purpose of this video was to give a blues based player a new "sound" and melodic force to get outside the melodic behavior of a typical pentatonic scale / blues approach. please let me know exactly what you want to learn so I can maybe make a lesson to answer your question.

    • @Filhodeally
      @Filhodeally 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for answer. I believe I'm a "blues based player". A Ritchie Blackmore's fan, Deep Purple fan. So, the context of rock is where I'm playing the most.
      However, including listening to Deep Purple and Rainbow we can notice how he is breaking the pentatonic box, at list when its aproaching the 80's. I believe it's awesome when we can get a more groovy sound when rocking. In the context of blues it's easier to do it, but as you say, there are times when solo and harmony don't match, you try it but it doesn't fit. So, my question is how to know when it's possible to use this note. It's more difficult to me, because as you see I like to mix things.
      Excuse me. Bad english. It's not my mother language. And thanks again!
