When you find out it's a tribute song to his dead son and grandfather, the feels kick your ass in every chorus.
He doesn't perform this one or "My Father's Eyes" live anymore since he's not mourning any more and the songs can't be sung right without that emotion. For 13 years he sang those songs in concert before he healed. I can't imagine that kind of pain lived over and over.

You can never experience true joy unless you have suffered great pain.
That about sums up the song. Heaven is a place of peace and joy. Those that are left behind do not yet belong there. They will suffer pain and loss from the joy of memories and future needs from those no longer here.
We all suffer loss that generates sadness. There is always a moment after when we do something or see something we know that person who is gone would have laughed at or kicked your ass about. It can be that reflection that places a momentary smile on our faces or draws determination out of us to try harder.

IMO Blues music is the bedrock and foundation to lots of music performed by lots of different artists. A lot of early (1960/70's) UK musicians were heavily influenced by blues music. For me, blues is the musical expression of the feelings you have when life has dealt you some kind of real blow!

"Psychedelic" is a term that occurred in the late 60s and mainly referred to mostly British invasion bands that were associated with the LSD and mushrooms of the era. Nobody was in the strict category. Most musiciarns of the time tried to make every song sound different from the others. All different genres were common in lots of bands. Don't try to put a label on something to just enjoy.

You guys need to listen to more Clapton and Babyface(it was more than one song. They played together for a couple of albums.) for some good Blues. Or Clapton playing with BB King.🤘🏼Also, Blues is probably the MOST encompassing music genre. Most music genres we have now can be traced back to the Blues.

He wrote this about his son that he lost.

Eric Clapton is a genius. If you listen closely, the song is not Clapton talking to his son showing how he feels. It's his son in heaven with all the insecurities of a fragile 4 year old talking to Clapton.....cuz I know, I don't belong, here in heaven!

As a father this song breaks my heart. Find out what he wrote it about then watch a live performance to this. Its absolutely tragic.

Beautiful, pulling at your heart strings song. Sad circumstances. The film clip had bits out of a movie called "Rush" starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Patrick. If you watch the movie this song even though written for another tragedy fits perfectly to the movie. Cheers guys. You've got to react to Kasey Chambers performing Eminems academy award winning song "Lose yourself". Stay safe.

I actually thought the meaning of this song was pretty common knowledge, I guess not.

Eric clapton and phil collins were in a band called "derek and the Dominoes together in the 80's they are great friends

Phil was not in Derek and the Dominos... Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, Jim Gordon and Duane Allman.
But I'm pretty sure they've played together, as they both get around.
