I liked it and “Soap Opera Digest “ as well . Both magazines used to give me the information, comings and goings , best and worst of the year , weddings etc .
I loved Soap Opera Weekly, I would buy it on a newsstand on the weekend and I would read it from cover to cover. Their front covers were so creative, my favorite from Days was mentioned in your interview. Alan, thank you for bringing back so many wonderful memories of days gone by, my favorite feature was Mimi's editorial, what was happening in the next week and pictures of the stars and their families at different events. Again, thank you from the bottom of my ❤.
I wasn't able to watch this live, but enjoyed this immensely. My sister somehow won a blow up poster size version of the cover of "Who killed Will". I remember it still 32 years later. I was saddened when the magazine ended. Thanks Alan.
Hi Alan … Patti Carroll here! I set up the Kill Will photo shoot through ABC, so it was their photographer who shot it for us … thus, ABC owned the rights to the material. No nefarious goings on in terms of ABC using imagery on their billboards, etc🤣
@@mimitorchin1960 Aww, Mimi … likewise. You are oh so special, and we were all so very fortunate to have such a loving yet fierce leader in you! Much love … xo
What a magical fun hour❤ truly, an amazing informative, collective body of professionals, collaborating, and seeing their ideas of stories come to life!! Bravo thank you for the wonderful memories and continue to succeed in your future endeavors💯👏👏💙
This was another great memory lane stroll indeed. LOVED "Soap Opera Weekly". And just like, "Soap Opera Digest", I still have many issues left. Seeing the covers-usually in line at the grocery store checkout stand-never failed to draw me in and always convinced me I had to have it. Was also obsessed with the ever-challenging mega crossword puzzle (a la "Midnight Globe") and its soap/soap character-themed clues. 💜
My mother had a long term subscription to Soap Opera Weekly and she read it cover to cover and took it all in like it was a PhD dissertation. She LOVED the soaps and the magazine. I still have a letter she rec'd after writing to Guiding Light.
I absolutely loved SOW! and I used to idolize Mimi. I also loved her old column for SOAPNET! I always thought SOW was always a cut above Digest because of the fac they provided critique of the genre.
Thanks Alan I got to caught up in the live chat so I will rewatch but I got a lot of insight from some of the other former columnists who worked there for things I always thought about certain producers anyway I hope you do a part 2 now on to rewatching Alan I just wish there was a way for me to get replacements for those old colecters editions of soap opera weekly with the history of the soaps ones from like 1991 and the soap specific ones like the aw colecters ones or the atwt colecters ones too they were so great
🎉Alan, this was a nice episode, enjoyed going down memory lane. I subscribed to all of the soap magazines, but Soap Opera Weekly was my favourite. ❤ greetings from coastal Mississippi. See you in the Locher Room 😂
Mimi hated spoilers??? The weekend Elian Gonzales was taken by the INS, Weekly splashed across its cover that Will Rappaport was going to escape from the train taking him from Llanview to Statesville Prison. It was in such large type I could see it from three aisles away. So, since I knew what was happening for the next week or two in on One Life, I was free to indulge in the actual suspense of whether the INS would take Elian away from the Miami Relatives. It isn't that I was angry, but I didn't watch OLTL or any other soap for a number of years. I wanted my plot points to come from watching the show, not from reading about it on the cover of a magazine.
Alan I was an intern at Soap Opera Weekly and this office was such a family. I actually babysat Kates son once, and Freeman Gunther was a mentor and I remember going to his beautiful apartment at the Beresford. Travis, Mark, Mimi, Gabby, Linda, Kate my goodness to name a few. What a group and I was lucky to have interned at my dream job and with these fabulous people.
I would buy the magazine every week
, read it cover to cover, then give it to grandma. Happy Memories!

GH Who Killed Damien Smith cover with all the suspects is iconic. Murderers row of GH greats. The 90s in one pic.

I remember the magazine
Great interview as always Alan! Loved SOW and loved hearing these behind the scenes stories!
Glad to hear it, Josh!
this was fun to watch hope you can do something with the staff that did the print edition of soap opera digest at some point
Did you see the Soap Digest show with Stephanie Sloane, Meredith Berlin and Lynn Leahey?
I first purchased a copy in 1991 I remember when Mimi had black hair 😂
😅😅😅 That was quite a while ago. ❤️

Soap Opera Weekly was a great magazine!🧼👍

I hear you. I miss the days when we were surprised in soaps. Loved how Y&R kept Colleen Zenk's joining the show a secret.
