Always buy one that is in use for commutes and if it looks physically rough then that could mean the engine is going. Just look at that Chevy probably doing the best and it looks sketchy as heck compared to the rest.

Pull the #8 plug again. Those engines were notorious for a misfire on #8 around 150 k miles. The plug is normally melted. If that’s the case the head is cracked between the valves on that cylinder. It won’t leak coolant like a (normal) cracked head. I was an Chrysler engine tech from those days and did plenty of head swaps on those engines. Just did one 2 years ago on a 2001 Durango with that same engine that my wife drove for years. As a matter of fact I still have a good seat of used head, and rebuilt 4wd trans with transfer case for those trucks laying in the corner of my shop.
My 92 Dakota , 5.2, cracked heads at 90,000…called my machine guy, he asked what I was driving, 92 Dakota, he said if I had more than 50,000 miles on it……heads were trash….ended up buying a set of Hughes heads.

I was in a terrible accident while at work that rendered me a quadriplegic. I lost a lot of those friends, I think because I just can’t keep up with them anymore. Or, maybe they just can’t deal with the disruption in the force. I don’t know. I still have a collection of Mopars, That are kept up by my caregiver. She has grown to love these cars, and she has a willingness to learn. I am lucky to have met her, I was on the verge of selling everything after my accident. When I need to have a pick me up. The blazer is just too expensive to race. The whole suspension needs to be redone to handle it. At that point it's not worth it if they want it to be competitive and somewhat reliable for a drag car.

Yeah, all kidding aside my top mechanic with 28 years experience was brining down between $180,000-220,000 a year (flat-rate) in my 12 bay shop. He'd have five or six bays occupied by himself every day, all day long. And then, after hours he had his OWN private shop at his house where he'd keep busy in his off hours and weekends doing cash jobs. He was an absolutely astounding mechanic; now retired due to (unrelated) health issues. If you're a GOOD mechanic and you find a GOOD shop, you can RAKE it in. I was LUCKY to have him as long as I did.
Damn I got 4 years experience and I just squeezed past 65,000 last year. I am at a dealership so I dunno if that’s helpful or not. Hope to make 70,000 this year! Also, kinda live in a smaller city where cost of living isn’t too high.

My dad had a Dodge Dakota V8 Magnum that developed a hell of a tick so he sold it thinking it was gunna blow up. The dude who bought it drove it for like another 8 years like that.
I drove a work truck with a 4.7 Magnum and the body was rusting off and it leaked so badly you'd need (at least) a quart of oil every fuel up (340km to empty). Ran it out of oil once and overheated it out of coolant twice on longer trips, topped her off and she still ran like a champ until the day I smoked a small deer and wrote it off ($500 of damage, needed a headlight and a bumper, the headlight was already broken, that's why I didn't see the deer). Boss got $1000 for the truck from insurance so he was pumped.
All of us watching from the northeast are looking at the underside of that dodge in saying that's a $15,000 truck up here. I mean we have to deduct $5,000 due to the fact that it's a dodge, but it's still a $10,000 truck.

I’m 19 years old 2 years experience forklift road mechanic. Have nothing but passion for turning wrenches. Not the most fluent in diesel engines but eager to learn anything I can get my hands on. Have lots of certifications and will have diesel certs within the next year

The blazer is just too expensive to race. The whole suspension needs to be redone to handle it. At that point it's not worth it if they want it to be competitive and somewhat reliable for a drag car.

Yeah, all kidding aside my top mechanic with 28 years experience was brining down between $180,000-220,000 a year (flat-rate) in my 12 bay shop. He'd have five or six bays occupied by himself every day, all day long. And then, after hours he had his OWN private shop at his house where he'd keep busy in his off hours and weekends doing cash jobs. He was an absolutely astounding mechanic; now retired due to (unrelated) health issues. If you're a GOOD mechanic and you find a GOOD shop, you can RAKE it in. I was LUCKY to have him as long as I did.
Damn I got 4 years experience and I just squeezed past 65,000 last year. I am at a dealership so I dunno if that’s helpful or not. Hope to make 70,000 this year! Also, kinda live in a smaller city where cost of living isn’t too high.

Edit: also the fact that Magnum went 200 miles with literally no oil pressure is astounding. They clearly built those motors right, and it makes sense. My dad had a Dodge Dakota V8 Magnum that developed a hell of a tick so he sold it thinking it was gunna blow up. The dude who bought it drove it for like another 8 years like that.
I drove a work truck with a 4.7 Magnum and the body was rusting off and it leaked so badly you'd need (at least) a quart of oil every fuel up (340km to empty). Ran it out of oil once and overheated it out of coolant twice on longer trips, topped her off and she still ran like a champ until the day I smoked a small deer and wrote it off ($500 of damage, needed a headlight and a bumper, the headlight was already broken, that's why I didn't see the deer). Boss got $1000 for the truck from insurance so he was pumped.

I’m 19 years old 2 years experience forklift road mechanic. Have nothing but passion for turning wrenches. Not the most fluent in diesel engines but eager to learn anything I can get my hands on. Have lots of certifications and will have diesel certs within the next year
