Lyrics
Ramblin boy you've been around
Dallas to the underground
High above and down below
And places I was scared to go
You sang it loud in case they heard
Hanging on to every word
Gentle as a lullaby
Firecrackers in your eyes
I would give anything
For one more night to run
And one last song to sing
You weren't asking much at all
Just catch you when you fall
On your own
The long way home
What's that sadness in your smile
You've been crying all the while
Could you lean upon my shoulder
In case you die or just get old
So what are we supposed to do
Just walk around forever blue?
And all this hurry up and wait
Was it chance or was it fate
I would give anything
For one more night to run
And one last song to sing
You weren't asking much at all
Just catch you when you fall
On your own
The long way home
You weren't asking much at all
Just catch you when you fall
On your own
The long way home
Hello there Mr. Carll. I'm a 14 year old western songwriter and poet trying to make it to where you're at. Thank you for the inspiration in my songwriting and poetry sir. Keep up the great work friend and keep inspiring. Love you man, God Bless.
Beautiful and moving, long time favorite song of yours. ❤
😂 Love the story and the song. Thanks for turning us onto Aaron’s music. May his memory always be a blessing.
Still remember where I was when I got shown what truly incredible songwriting is. 2007 on a smoke break working at Sonic my buddy popped it in the cd player. First Hayes song I heard was Hey Baby Where You Been and I was sold. This album changed what music is and means to me changed forever. Thank you sir!
The brighter they are the quicker they burn. Sorry you lost a friend brother. I feel your pain. Writing and playing music always helps me heal, at least after playing enough times where I can get through the song without choking up. Stay strong. Your friend lives on through your song.🙌🏽
Wow! I've loved that song for years, never knew the backstory. Thank you, Hayes.

Beautiful Hayes
Damn man ! You got me through the pandemic. Thank you for your artistry. Beautiful song.
My copy of "Little Rock" is scheduled for delivery Monday, I cant wait to hear it on vinyl. I bought the CD at your merch table 20 years ago when you opened for Todd Snider at the Sons of Herman Hall in Deep Ellum/Dallas TX. I walked down the stairs after your set and you were leaning against one of the columns. We talked for a few minutes and I've been a huge fan ever since.
Felt that, thanks.
Cheers to the women we knew 20 years ago.
Man, this is the first piece of your work I ever heard. I’ve been listening to your stuff for a long time since then and it is fun to see the changes in my
Life over the years.

One of the songs that made me fall in love with your music. Beautiful.
Been a fan since the beginning. Great song! I play and sing it often. Funny I should see this video this morning, because I’m about to head up to Fuller’s Guitars to look at trading in my Taylor AD17e for a J-45. The song will just sound better on the ol’ workhorse…. Good stuff man. Keep up the good work!
Heck Yeah Mr. Hayes Carll! Perfect timing. I've got a guitar circle tonight with a half dozen or more buddies and I've been working all week on covering your "You get it all" as note for note as I can from one of your solo acoustic performances on your channel. You came here a couple months ago to Bloomington IL on your tour with Patti and Lori. I was the guy with the walker and the little bell that I rang in place of applause! (inside joke) Seriously, you were GREAT in that performance! I just subscribed to this channel now too! P.S. my retrievers also sneak into my home guitar videos!
Loving it. Thank you,Sir

It seems strange to see you play anything other than that old J45.
