I'll never understand how a modded romance that was cut? Never officially existed? Somehow manages to look smoother, feel more real and have more sincere sounding voice acting than the official romance arcs. Definitely dumping my latest run to instal this mod.
@@rulewski33 Oh yeah, I know, but it takes a mod to actually play it. I guess I was just surprised that a piece of cut content that apparently wasn't finished, feels more real than the ones that made it into the completed game.
No matter how many times I play these games, it's always Kaidan I romance. Thank you for your effort. Nothings against custom Shep, but to see Sheploo and Kaidan is the best. ♥️
See, before I played ME3, I'd have agreed with you on that; having him locked as a straight romance option up until 3, on paper, looks really bad, in terms of irl implications and character design. But the way they go about executing the introduction of Kaidan's bisexuality/homosexuality, depending on if you see him as a gay male who discovered it late, or as a newly discovered bisexual, was really well done. With Femshep, Kaidan's very upfront: his confident, his cocky, and is really blunt with his feelings towards Shepard, as a man stereotypically is with a woman. Obviously, there are some exemptions (Garrus, being the awkward little duckling he is, as an example), but Kaidan with Femshep fits the upfront and blunt male stereotype you usually see in media when it comes to romance and sex. Their relationship is mostly driven by Kaidan, and he shows uncertainty and vulnerability at times, but he always tries to be the anchor of the relationship. With MShep, however, he's the complete opposite. He's used to his and Shepard's relationship being as close friends, but it starts to feel a bit rocky after their encounter on Horizon. Throught the trilogy, Kaidan is very reluctant to share his personal history and show weaker sides of him to both male and female Shepard, at least, up until he's attacked by EDI's body (I forget the original's name) on Mars and is left hospitalised. When you talk to him on the multiple opportunities in Huerta Memorial, he slowly begins to start opening to Shepard; he'll even prod at you if you compliment him when he comments on his biotic getting better with age: Shepard responds with 'Or you have' to which Kaidan replies 'Are you flirting with me, Commander? No, no, wait - let me live in the illusion'. And because you can't cheat on him, as he's simply not an option for MShep until ME3, the whole interaction is much less confrontational. Leading us to after the Citadel Coup; his 'Sanity Check' in Apollo's Cafe has a completely different feel to it. Where, like through most scenes with Femshep, he's quite up front in his feelings for Shepard, with MShep, he beats around the bush with it. He's quiet, and hesitant to say anything, due to the high chance of Shepard being straight. He goes on about how after all their time together, has Shepard ever known him to be with anyone, due to him 'being picky, or waiting for the right time'. And the big difference here is that with Femshep, he'll be crazy blunt with you and say 'I love you, Shepard'. Whereas with MShep, he's scared and hesitant and says 'I think.. I think, what I want, what I've *always* wanted, is something more with someone that I'm *already* close to, you know?' And the fact that they went out of their way to make such drastically different dialogue for Kaidan's romance, depending on him being with Femshep or MShep, just goes to show how much they do actually care about Kaidan's sexuality. It felt as natural and realistic as a video game conversation can get, but if Kaidan was a romance option to MShep in ME1 and ME2, almost all of that atmosphere is instantly lost. So while part of me wishes he could be romanced earlier by MShep, as I'm one of the people who absolutely adores Kaidan as a character and as a romance option, I'm so glad they kept his gay romance locked to ME3. It's so worth the wait, and there's nothing stopping you from romancing someone in ME1 or ME2 while you wait, if you don't want to miss out on the game's sexy time. But his gay romance is so worth the wait of two games worth of time before getting access to it, and I hope to god that Kaidan, at the very least, returns in ME4, preferably with Shepard, but as a romance option, if Shepard is canonically dead, for our new hero, of both sexes
@@incognitoinhell8742 I'm replaying Legendary Edition to celebrate its one year release and I'm so glad to see this comment. I had already fulfilled my MShep Kaidan romance last year but I'm just so tempted to do so again just for the slow burn romance and eventual realization Kaidan has. I had rationalized to myself that my MShep was also figuring out his sexuality, pursuing Liara and Tali in the previous games-- and eventually breaking things off with them after some time apart. It wasn't until he reunited with Kaidan where he also had the same breakthrough in Sanity Check, and realized they were perfect for each other all along.
@@Panzora See, I'm one of the lucky ones who played the Legendary Edition as their first ever playthrough of the trilogy (I was always a Dragon Age kid), and being able to experience a really fleshed out and honestly incredibly realistic gay romance in any game is really rare; I think the first that comes to mind is the Iron Bull's romance from Dragon Age: Inquisition, but the (no pun intended) big issue there being he was a big horned giant, not a human; there's never really any exploration or conversation regarding sexuality in DA either. Kaidan's probably one of the only characters I know of who actually sits down with you and talks through it as a thing that he's unsure of and somewhat scared of. It's probably the closest thing to a coming out you'll ever see in a video game; most lgbt characters are just 'I'm gay, here's my overly stereotyped character to show this'. Kaidan comes off as just a man, though, struggling with accepting his bisexuality until later in life. A really sweet, really well handled, and well written character arch
@@incognitoinhell8742 I also only got to play Mass Effect when Legendary Edition came out, I was also a Dragon Age kid and started playing back in 2015 when I saw a video of Dorian kissing the pc and wanted to experience romancing a guy in a video game. He’ll always have a special place in my heart even if his romance falls more along the stereotype you mention. Agreed on your last point there. Romancing Kaidan felt real, felt right and just more natural.
@@ArloKnudsenFit I guess this is why their lovemaking scene was repeated in ME3 - only a bit longer. Still feel cheated because they were growing close in the first game.
Guys how many aura points do I loose when I will say that this is my comfort video that I just rewatch at least few times a month, to the point that I can recite Kaidans little "you make me feel human" speach 😀
I'm not a gamer, but if it's science fiction, I'll give it a look. Very impressed with the overall look and feel of the universe as it's presented, and appreciate the storyline very much. Space is awfully big and there's plenty of room for everyone. Play on, all. 😊
For anyone wondering if there are more games with these kinds of options, look up The Technomancer. I loved it and replayed it even more than Mass Effect
I think you should change the video's name to ''Restored'' instead of ''Modded''. The only thing that the mod does is restore the flags to the already existing romance in the game's files. The mod itself adds nothing but said re-flagging. ''Modded'' implies that fans somehow managed to add a romance that wasnt there in the first place, which is not true.
@@romanyzta26 You can use sound samples to create new dialog. There is a mod that gives a rebuttal for FemShep in ME3 if Kaidan gets mad at her for cheating in ME2
@@romanyzta26allegedly, the reason this was cut was due to the EA buyout and it would have been "too controversial" to have the default face model of Sheppard suing over this. So they just dummied out the flags. All the files are still there in the retail release, but the flags prevent everything from happening. It really speaks about EA's Bioware's "commitment" to the LGBT community that the files remained dummied out for the "legendary" port.
Wait....last time I used the same sex mod, when I got to them spending the night together it was Female Sheps body in cutscene. When did that change?! Excuse me, I need to go mod Legendary Edition right now.
I have a question please - How does Shepard withstand processing all the Prothean visions? I know Liara told him he has a strong mind, but is there a deeper reason behind this? As well as his success in defeating the geth and the reapers? Btw if anyone cares, my Shepard is a passionate top with Kaidan. ❤🔥
For gay male romances in Mass Effect 1 and 2, yes. They're in game files but not in the game, so you need a mod to access the content. Only Mass Effect 3 finally has official gay options (Kaidan or Steve) for male Shep. For gay female romances: femShep has a full romance with Liara in ME1 plus an optional scene with another asari, a fling with Kelly and some flirting/possible scene with a few more asari in ME2, Liara again in Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC (ME2), and multiple female romance choices (including Liara again) in ME3.
