I was completely underwowed by my 8k plus. Was about to toss it in its box when i decided to fool around with it first. I figured, there is no way this headset can look this bad. So i did need to spend about and hour working through settings and finally hit on the right combination. Now it looks amazing and with fantastic clarity and FOV. This headset was definitly not plug and play. But most of the complaints here in this video is due to him not fiddling with it. It is way better than just about any other headset on the market when given some time to fine tune. If you want plug and play definitley look elsewhere. Rift S is great as a plug and play headset.
I didn't have the clarity issues on 5k+ (did have lots of other visual issues, like "crystalline bleeding in my peripheral" and not being able to get the IPD in a place where I wasn't crosseyed), but I did have most of the other ones. In the end the software drove me insane and is why I sold it.
@@SneakyJoeRu it's already known that pimax products are still wip and you have to set things up before getting good result, if you expected to get something "plug & play" you shouldn't even considered to buy it... it's a device for VR Enthusiasts that wants to try and experimenting the large FOV and resolution, something other companies still havent done yet; thinking that they get so much money from the vive and oculus and they even replaced the old headsets with the new ones with almost none upgrade on terms of fov and resolution, such a shame, they didn't even consider to let people buy the old headsets to a lower price to help people trying it

15:38 Is the Pimax 8k+ really that bad? In Tyriel woods review he mentioned that the visual clarity was very good and in sweviver's through the lense footage the headset seems to be onpar with the index.
In No Man's Sky - absolutely. It doesn't matter if I use higher upscaling or anything - it looks like total dogshit. It does look A BIT better in other games, but you still can see upscaled blurry pixels. And no way it looks on par with Index. You can just calculate it yourself if you check PPD video I linked, and calculate PPD of Index. Any HMD has higher real PPD than pimax, and even with higher resolution, rendering PPD of pimax is still lowest on the market, meaning you will always see some sort of defocus. This is something nobody talks about for some reason - they always equalize resolution of headset to clarity, but it's not so.
@@SneakyJoesENG I agree I listened to these big names say it looked amazing but when I bought one and tried it in iracing I found the picture blurry and was very washed out colors. It was in focus but felt like looking through a thin smear of oil in the lens. No match for the clarity and brightness of my Reverb.

I own a HTC Vive Pro with Wireless Adapter and Lens Mod, I am happy with it. Not the baddest Option. Still I want to get a Headset Gen 2, but I cant imagine wired VRanymore. Problem is that There are currently no lagfree alternatives for PC, although I got to admit that I have not tried Virtual Desktop for Quest yet. Still you need a Wifi 6 Router for a good experience and Quest just is not as comfortable as Vive Pro. Well, VR always is a huge compromise These days...

exelent. First reviewer that has delivered content i have been waiting from the launch. After owning a pimax 4k and following the kickstarter i was convinced this is the reality of pimax. Im so glad i bailed the kickstarter in last minutes.
I know this video is nearing 2 years old but here is my short story. I owned a Pimax 5K X BE edition back in 2017/18 and it was the worst experience I ever had in any VR headsets and at that time I owned the DK2 in 2014 then the OG rift with x-box controller, then the CV1 with motion controllers, and a Vive with wands witch was and still in my opinion the worst controllers ever made but even after 2018 I owned about 5 to 7 VR different headsets and it always was the worst VR Exp. ever. Well I promised myself I would never deal with Pimax again. Well nearing the end of May 2022 I saw a used Pimax 8KX on on CL and he was asking 1100 CAD so I tried to get it for 800 and I got it cause the seller was needing cash for another project. Well let me say that the 8KX is now the best headset I have owned out of many VR headsets since 2014. I owned a HP Reverb G2 and sold it cause I really find after tweaking with the colors, and a few other tweaks it is the same or a little better visually, as well as hardware and software that is much better in my opinion and the only thing that is missing from the Pimax is the Valve sound that HP contracted to get the same drivers as the Valve Index. I get excited just thinking of putting the 8KX on witch I never really got from any other headset other then the DK2 when I tried VR for the 1st time playing Windlands. So my point here is never say never cause things just might improve over time. I want to mention I am running a 3080TI with a I9 9900K.

You can enjoy it if you have hands and base stations for it. There's a slim chance that hands won't lose tracking at all and MOST games work well in it despite minor number will have glitches like turning off through left eye then completely crashing
Have also a used 5k + with some games (project cars 2 for instance) I had a issue that it was impossible to get the ipd correct I solved it in the pi tool software under parallel projection. Now iam very happy with the headset and don't have any of the issues.
honestly I don't have any of these problems listed in the video. My Pi tools software works perfect, the clarity is great even compared to the index I've tried, my games never crash, and I've never had to use a special dongle for my Valve controllers to work. Not sure why this guy is having so many problems? I've tried the Oculus original, Oculus S, Valve Index, and HTC Vive pro, After using the pimax it was impossible for me to go back to such a small field of view, plus the resolution was pretty much the same as the valve. I love my pimax and have had nothing but great experiences with mine.

@@SINfromPL I got the first headset and for what it is was mostly happy with it. I got a second headset for the sake of getting controllers and base stations. If I'd have bought them in Russia, I'd have spent the same amount of money just for them without a headset. But by getting a headset in addition to those, I just slightly expanded my hmd collection, for virtually free. You just can't easily order index base stations and controllers in Russia and not overpay 6-10x times of what they cost. So in MY CASE it's a better option.
Don't know what to say about this review, apart from you made bad purchase decisions on XR and 8k+ Having owned Vive, 5k+ and 8kx 5k+ is quite a step up from vive in terms of resolution and sharpness, but SDE is still quite noticeable 5k+ is supposed to be much better than 5k XR in sharpness and SDE. just not the blacks. 8kx is a huge step up in terms of SDE and sharpness from 5k+ 8kx in 114hz scaler mode, which is same as 8k+ the image is soft and blurry, apparently its only good for games with fast movements like ping-pong. 8kx is much sharper with no softness vs 8k+ example of how 8kx compared to 8k+ would be standing at 2m distance in RoV environment 8kx could read easily the smallest letters in eye test panel, and in the text panel 8kx can just read the 2nd paragraph from the top (2nd smallest texts) on 8K+ it would just be blurry indistinguishable on text, and barely distinguishable on eye test. this is a honest comment too from my own experience.
Well, there was no 8kx when I was in market for an updated hmd. Was hoping that upscaling used won't suck huge ass, especially after all those sellout reviewers praising this hmd. Unfortunately it did... I wish there was some sort of dlss implementation for vr exclusively or any ai upscaler not to suffer from blurry screens of upscaled pimax images. :-(
Dear Author! I totally agree with you! Pimax is a peace of junk! Just tried the Artisan and it feels worse than the FullHD Oculus DK2! Even with higher res it is a bitch to use, my eyes hurt and can never adapt. I see almost double no matter what IPD i set. I just feel trash after using them. Stay away folks. Buy something HP or Valve. This is total garbage. Pimax you need to do your homework correctly or else everyone will leave your products and claim money back. This is unacceptable.
Concidering they never addressed some of gamebreaking issues I've had, and only promised fix "right tomorrow" for months, I doubt it will improve my situation. For some games I still need a backup oculus headset just for cases when it won't run.
I just find your review so honest, I wonder if I just have bad eyes. I love my 5k+. I cant seem to see what people mean about any of the distortion. However what you say about the companies practices rings true 100 percent. It seems to be their biggest hindrance to large growth, bad PR.
Not just PR. technical stuff is overall bad with those. Just lookup recent news - they started melting with bottom USB. Literal fire hazard if you keep them turned on.

@@supermcawesome7304 It's the difference between a Meh experience and a WOW experience on the Pimax 8KX. The difference is night and day when you have the proper SteamVR config file. The reason is because SteamVR is limiting the maximum resolution output. By modifying the config file, we are removing this limit, allowing the 8KX and other Pimax headsets to push much higher resolution. Sweviver has been working on Pimax Experience software that automatically manages this config file, you can find Open Beta here: community.openmr.ai/t/pimax-vr-experience-open-beta-0-50-releasing-now/31649/ Also yes, sometimes you need patience when dealing with a Pimax headset. But for me, the 8KX has the best image clarity I've ever experienced. It's feels very close to real life. You can check out my review on my channel.
Pimax 8kx is 2nd only to Reverb G1 for clarity. I currently have 5k+ and clarity is pretty good - I can read everything on my dashboard in iracing and assetto corsa competizione. I'm waiting or my 8kx but the feedback in a survey showed it's clarity for reading was 2nd compared to all other headsets. Some of the frustration with their software is justified but their hardware compared to what else is currently available, especially the wide FOV, makes Pimax something you should definitely consider. I mean, although the G1 has better clarity (not by much), imagine the difference playing with 155 HFOV compared to 98 HFOV of the G1. The other Pimax headsets also scored highly for clarity compared to most on the market. Idk, maybe 5k+ is better in text reading than 5k XR (most likely it is), after getting back to my oculus CV1 I was surprised how clear it was in comparison to both pimax headsets, so I started digging. Found out about PPD, and realized that Pimax has less PPD, so less actual details are shown on the screen compared to even 1gen headsets. It's just an impression I got from direct comparison. FOV is great, yeah, but if you want visual clarity (REAL clarity) you need to get either 8kx or any other headset on the market. Even 1 gen VMR will give you more details
@That other Guy Pimax has a hardware roller for IPD but also can adjust in software so it moves the image more than the hardware allows for people with too small or too large an IPD.
I made the mistake of buying Pimax 5K+. The headset is good, I don't have any issues with PiTool myself luckily, but I can't wrap my head around the settings I have to configure for a game like Elite Dangerous. Also I should have rather waited 5 more years before getting into VR because I am not satisfied with the resolution per eye on the 5K+. 8K should do the trick but we'd have to wait at least 3 more generations of graphic card development imo.

I need help. My ipd is 76 I have a quest 1 that goes up to 72 I think but d I need the quest 2 only goes to 68 or 70 I wanted to move on from oculus. Is pimqx the only option I have for my huge ipd?
Pimax max is 73, but I assume you can adjust last 3 mms with pitool and should be good. I don't think there are many other HMDs with such high IPDs man

wait what???? the headset receivers lack bandwidth, meaning if you move ur controllers (index) too quick, they can't read the data? the headset can't read the data? i thought the base station are reading the data from the controllers? how is the headset messing with separate tracking from controllers? thats what i don't understand here, i need that explaining a bit more
Your headset is connected to pc. Base stations are not. Google how base stations work with lighthouse system. Controllers read data from base stations, then send it to hmd, which transfers it to pc.
8K Plus is now $849 incl shipping + SMAS rigid headstrap. Other reviewers have warned that Pimax headsets are not likely to wow you straight out of the box -- you need to be prepared to tweak the hell out of the settings to get them to work at their best and be worth their asking price. If you can't be bothered, stick to the HP Reverb G2. Still, to this day there is simply no other VR headset out there that offers a 200-deg FOV for the benefit of sim drivers & pilots.... so the Pimax headsets continue to be in a class of their own, no matter what.
It's only a temporary price. It will get back up. Considering that software and hardware are still in not optimal state, you won't be able to play all games with it, and some games on it will be worse than the others. If you get a Pimax, you also need a second headset just for compatibility with games that won't start on Pimax itself.
I hear you recommend people who want high FOV to get the StarVR or the XTAL. The problem with that, is that the StarVR seems to only be for businesses, and the XTAL 5k costs 6000 dollars. =/
Yes, this is a sad part about wide FOV headsets. You either pay premium, or deal with Pimax issues. :-( I just felt like I had to point out that there are alternatives (even though they're way pricier).
How can you tell that StarVR is better? - We had both headsets demoed few months back and StarVR was NOT better, feels dated compared to Pimax 8K X despite having better built quality.
I can't really, as I've only heard good things about them. But this may be due to not many people having access to those or being paid to say good things. How exactly is it bad? I'd like to know.
@@SneakyJoeRu It's not bad - StarVR feels premium but picture quality was not that earth shattering as the price tag would suggest, also, depsite having OLED and better lenses it still suffered from SDE and godrays like any other headset. 8K X on the other hand - despite having only 75 Hz delivered way crispier and more readable image. Pimax felt cheaper on the touch but had bigger wow effect than then StarVR. We went with Occulus quest 2 in the end as it's just cheaper and allows easier setup than any lighthouse based solution that matters when you want to train 15-20 people a day onsite and then move to next site, etc.
@@dexio85 Well, considering it's 1830x1464 per eye, not proper 4k, but slightly above 1440p, it should be better than 5k xr in every aspect, but will be worse in clarity if you compare with 8kx. Maybe I'd prefer it to 8k+ for slight additional clarity. Thank you for that info.

I’ve got the Q2, the G2 and now the Pimax 8kX. Not happy with the Pimax at all, I honestly think both the G2 and Q2 blow it out the water. I also have a high end rig so it’s 100% up for any AAA game. But the Pimax is terrible.

Got the pimax artisan yesterday and took forever to get it working properly. Then when I finally did, I was so underwhelmed I went and asked for a refund that same day. I am still on my og vive 2018 with lens mod and deluxe audio strap. What a terrible terrible headset.
I ordered a 5k Plus last march, still havent got nothing. Pimax customers services is complet crap, they barely speak english. I gave them loss notification from both carrier, they just don t care and I can t do shit about it. I just have lost 1300$. I strongly advice avoiding their products. If anyone have the same issue, plz contact me.
Please don't buy G2. I got one due to the reviews that mentioned how "crisp" it looks but they all failed to mention that it's only clear in the center and falls out very fast to blurry mess. It's completely useless in flight simulator games because you constantly need to rotate your head to see the gauges. The reviews were skewed.

Because there were no proper 8k headset at the time. And if you want to pay for shipping of 8k+ and headsets' price - it's yours. But I believe you're better off getting one from Pimax directly if you want it.

Even if hmd had ppd 10K you will still not see the keyboard and you will have something on your head ... For work I think that AR goggles would be the perfect solution for a completely dark room and a backlit keyboard ... then it would make sense ...

Well, I can only envy you. Learn about PPD. Do the math. Compare clarity IRL with tests. It's a placebo caused by RGB strip screen, not pentile patterned oled. In fact any pimax has WORSE **DETAIL** reproduction.

When I compare the 5k+ to the Vive (the two headsets I own) I think the Pimax is much sharper, but the Vive is wider FOV than the Rift. About your statement that any Pimax has worse detail than the Rift, didn't you say in this video (1:50) that the 8K X had more PPD? Are you excluding that from your statement?

Looks like only 1 of my 16 USB ports works well with 8k+v. + one on the videocard. When plugged to it, it finally started booting fine every time. Pitool jumps are still happening even after system reinstall with a different iso. (edit) In 281 pitool version the bug with jumping interface was resolved. After 2 years I made it public. The xr is with me for a bit over then a year. They said to me that blue headsets won't crack that badly and they even were selling blue 5k+ for a limited time.

Visual PPD of 8k or 8k+ is same as 5k/5k xr. So image will still be worse for a degree than on. Preserved image quality on 5k xr is worse than on other headsets due to high spacing between pixels. Only 8kX has better actual and visual ppd than all other mentioned headsets.

bullshit all of the things in the video. im using 5kx for a year now, the best headsets for sims on the market. there are a lot of thru the lenses comparison videos about it, everyone can check for true. no any issues the video tells. simply not true. i had oculus and valve index i have sold them after purchased pimax. this is simple a fake video!!!
I was completely underwowed by my 8k plus. Was about to toss it in its box when i decided to fool around with it first. I figured, there is no way this headset can look this bad. So i did need to spend about and hour working through settings and finally hit on the right combination. Now it looks amazing and with fantastic clarity and FOV. This headset was definitly not plug and play. But most of the complaints here in this video is due to him not fiddling with it. It is way better than just about any other headset on the market when given some time to fine tune. If you want plug and play definitley look elsewhere. Rift S is great as a plug and play headset.
What did you change to make it look better?

I didn't have the clarity issues on 5k+ (did have lots of other visual issues, like "crystalline bleeding in my peripheral" and not being able to get the IPD in a place where I wasn't crosseyed), but I did have most of the other ones. In the end the software drove me insane and is why I sold it.

@@SneakyJoeRu it's already known that pimax products are still wip and you have to set things up before getting good result, if you expected to get something "plug & play" you shouldn't even considered to buy it... it's a device for VR Enthusiasts that wants to try and experimenting the large FOV and resolution, something other companies still havent done yet; thinking that they get so much money from the vive and oculus and they even replaced the old headsets with the new ones with almost none upgrade on terms of fov and resolution, such a shame, they didn't even consider to let people buy the old headsets to a lower price to help people trying it

In No Man's Sky - absolutely. It doesn't matter if I use higher upscaling or anything - it looks like total dogshit.
It does look A BIT better in other games, but you still can see upscaled blurry pixels. And no way it looks on par with Index. You can just calculate it yourself if you check PPD video I linked, and calculate PPD of Index. Any HMD has higher real PPD than pimax, and even with higher resolution, rendering PPD of pimax is still lowest on the market, meaning you will always see some sort of defocus. This is something nobody talks about for some reason - they always equalize resolution of headset to clarity, but it's not so.

It was in focus but felt like looking through a thin smear of oil in the lens. No match for the clarity and brightness of my Reverb.

I own a HTC Vive Pro with Wireless Adapter and Lens Mod, I am happy with it. Not the baddest Option. Still I want to get a Headset Gen 2, but I cant imagine wired VRanymore. Problem is that There are currently no lagfree alternatives for PC, although I got to admit that I have not tried Virtual Desktop for Quest yet. Still you need a Wifi 6 Router for a good experience and Quest just is not as comfortable as Vive Pro. Well, VR always is a huge compromise These days...

exelent. First reviewer that has delivered content i have been waiting from the launch. After owning a pimax 4k and following the kickstarter i was convinced this is the reality of pimax. Im so glad i bailed the kickstarter in last minutes.
I know this video is nearing 2 years old but here is my short story. I owned a Pimax 5K X BE edition back in 2017/18 and it was the worst experience I ever had in any VR headsets and at that time I owned the DK2 in 2014 then the OG rift with x-box controller, then the CV1 with motion controllers, and a Vive with wands witch was and still in my opinion the worst controllers ever made but even after 2018 I owned about 5 to 7 VR different headsets and it always was the worst VR Exp. ever. Well I promised myself I would never deal with Pimax again. Well nearing the end of May 2022 I saw a used Pimax 8KX on on CL and he was asking 1100 CAD so I tried to get it for 800 and I got it cause the seller was needing cash for another project. Well let me say that the 8KX is now the best headset I have owned out of many VR headsets since 2014. I owned a HP Reverb G2 and sold it cause I really find after tweaking with the colors, and a few other tweaks it is the same or a little better visually, as well as hardware and software that is much better in my opinion and the only thing that is missing from the Pimax is the Valve sound that HP contracted to get the same drivers as the Valve Index. I get excited just thinking of putting the 8KX on witch I never really got from any other headset other then the DK2 when I tried VR for the 1st time playing Windlands. So my point here is never say never cause things just might improve over time. I want to mention I am running a 3080TI with a I9 9900K.

You can enjoy it if you have hands and base stations for it. There's a slim chance that hands won't lose tracking at all and MOST games work well in it despite minor number will have glitches like turning off through left eye then completely crashing
Have also a used 5k + with some games (project cars 2 for instance) I had a issue that it was impossible to get the ipd correct I solved it in the pi tool software under parallel projection. Now iam very happy with the headset and don't have any of the issues.
honestly I don't have any of these problems listed in the video. My Pi tools software works perfect, the clarity is great even compared to the index I've tried, my games never crash, and I've never had to use a special dongle for my Valve controllers to work. Not sure why this guy is having so many problems? I've tried the Oculus original, Oculus S, Valve Index, and HTC Vive pro, After using the pimax it was impossible for me to go back to such a small field of view, plus the resolution was pretty much the same as the valve. I love my pimax and have had nothing but great experiences with mine.

FOV is the best thing Pimax has to offer, and 8k+v is still my main headset, but I'm really waiting for decagear to enjoy that wireless experience in 2k/eye.

@@SINfromPL I got the first headset and for what it is was mostly happy with it. I got a second headset for the sake of getting controllers and base stations. If I'd have bought them in Russia, I'd have spent the same amount of money just for them without a headset. But by getting a headset in addition to those, I just slightly expanded my hmd collection, for virtually free.
You just can't easily order index base stations and controllers in Russia and not overpay 6-10x times of what they cost. So in MY CASE it's a better option.

Having owned Vive, 5k+ and 8kx
5k+ is quite a step up from vive in terms of resolution and sharpness, but SDE is still quite noticeable
5k+ is supposed to be much better than 5k XR in sharpness and SDE. just not the blacks.
8kx is a huge step up in terms of SDE and sharpness from 5k+
8kx in 114hz scaler mode, which is same as 8k+ the image is soft and blurry, apparently its only good for games with fast movements like ping-pong.
8kx is much sharper with no softness vs 8k+
example of how 8kx compared to 8k+ would be
standing at 2m distance in RoV environment 8kx could read easily the smallest letters in eye test panel, and in the text panel 8kx can just read the 2nd paragraph from the top (2nd smallest texts)
on 8K+ it would just be blurry indistinguishable on text, and barely distinguishable on eye test.
this is a honest comment too from my own experience.
Well, there was no 8kx when I was in market for an updated hmd. Was hoping that upscaling used won't suck huge ass, especially after all those sellout reviewers praising this hmd. Unfortunately it did... I wish there was some sort of dlss implementation for vr exclusively or any ai upscaler not to suffer from blurry screens of upscaled pimax images. :-(

Dear Author! I totally agree with you! Pimax is a peace of junk! Just tried the Artisan and it feels worse than the FullHD Oculus DK2! Even with higher res it is a bitch to use, my eyes hurt and can never adapt. I see almost double no matter what IPD i set. I just feel trash after using them. Stay away folks. Buy something HP or Valve. This is total garbage. Pimax you need to do your homework correctly or else everyone will leave your products and claim money back. This is unacceptable.
Wait until the new Pimax Fronteir event this weekend. They have made some huge changes to the upcoming models and implemented a ton of new technology.
Concidering they never addressed some of gamebreaking issues I've had, and only promised fix "right tomorrow" for months, I doubt it will improve my situation. For some games I still need a backup oculus headset just for cases when it won't run.

However what you say about the companies practices rings true 100 percent. It seems to be their biggest hindrance to large growth, bad PR.
Not just PR. technical stuff is overall bad with those. Just lookup recent news - they started melting with bottom USB. Literal fire hazard if you keep them turned on.

There was some steam vr config file that Pimax users had to change to use better resolution, I wonder if you used it?
I tried supersampling in both pitool and in steam. They improve clarity a bit, but not to a point I'd stop complaining it looks worse than on Rift CV1

@@supermcawesome7304 It's the difference between a Meh experience and a WOW experience on the Pimax 8KX. The difference is night and day when you have the proper SteamVR config file. The reason is because SteamVR is limiting the maximum resolution output. By modifying the config file, we are removing this limit, allowing the 8KX and other Pimax headsets to push much higher resolution. Sweviver has been working on Pimax Experience software that automatically manages this config file, you can find Open Beta here: community.openmr.ai/t/pimax-vr-experience-open-beta-0-50-releasing-now/31649/
Also yes, sometimes you need patience when dealing with a Pimax headset. But for me, the 8KX has the best image clarity I've ever experienced. It's feels very close to real life. You can check out my review on my channel.
Pimax 8kx is 2nd only to Reverb G1 for clarity. I currently have 5k+ and clarity is pretty good - I can read everything on my dashboard in iracing and assetto corsa competizione. I'm waiting or my 8kx but the feedback in a survey showed it's clarity for reading was 2nd compared to all other headsets. Some of the frustration with their software is justified but their hardware compared to what else is currently available, especially the wide FOV, makes Pimax something you should definitely consider. I mean, although the G1 has better clarity (not by much), imagine the difference playing with 155 HFOV compared to 98 HFOV of the G1. The other Pimax headsets also scored highly for clarity compared to most on the market. Idk, maybe 5k+ is better in text reading than 5k XR (most likely it is), after getting back to my oculus CV1 I was surprised how clear it was in comparison to both pimax headsets, so I started digging. Found out about PPD, and realized that Pimax has less PPD, so less actual details are shown on the screen compared to even 1gen headsets. It's just an impression I got from direct comparison. FOV is great, yeah, but if you want visual clarity (REAL clarity) you need to get either 8kx or any other headset on the market. Even 1 gen VMR will give you more details
@That other Guy Pimax has a hardware roller for IPD but also can adjust in software so it moves the image more than the hardware allows for people with too small or too large an IPD.
This guy is comparing a 1000 eu product with a 5000 eu product... pff. Nothing wrong with a pimax headset.
I made the mistake of buying Pimax 5K+. The headset is good, I don't have any issues with PiTool myself luckily, but I can't wrap my head around the settings I have to configure for a game like Elite Dangerous. Also I should have rather waited 5 more years before getting into VR because I am not satisfied with the resolution per eye on the 5K+. 8K should do the trick but we'd have to wait at least 3 more generations of graphic card development imo.
You made a mistake getting pimax as your first headset instead. You could get Valve Index or Reverb G2 and they'd be great in terms of visual clarity.
As for Elite Dangerous - try disabling ambient occlusion.

My ipd is 76 I have a quest 1 that goes up to 72 I think but d I need the quest 2 only goes to 68 or 70 I wanted to move on from oculus. Is pimqx the only option I have for my huge ipd?
Pimax max is 73, but I assume you can adjust last 3 mms with pitool and should be good. I don't think there are many other HMDs with such high IPDs man

wait what???? the headset receivers lack bandwidth, meaning if you move ur controllers (index) too quick, they can't read the data? the headset can't read the data? i thought the base station are reading the data from the controllers? how is the headset messing with separate tracking from controllers? thats what i don't understand here, i need that explaining a bit more
Your headset is connected to pc. Base stations are not.
Google how base stations work with lighthouse system. Controllers read data from base stations, then send it to hmd, which transfers it to pc.
8K Plus is now $849 incl shipping + SMAS rigid headstrap.
Other reviewers have warned that Pimax headsets are not likely to wow you straight out of the box -- you need to be prepared to tweak the hell out of the settings to get them to work at their best and be worth their asking price. If you can't be bothered, stick to the HP Reverb G2. Still, to this day there is simply no other VR headset out there that offers a 200-deg FOV for the benefit of sim drivers & pilots.... so the Pimax headsets continue to be in a class of their own, no matter what.
It's only a temporary price. It will get back up.
Considering that software and hardware are still in not optimal state, you won't be able to play all games with it, and some games on it will be worse than the others.
If you get a Pimax, you also need a second headset just for compatibility with games that won't start on Pimax itself.
I hear you recommend people who want high FOV to get the StarVR or the XTAL. The problem with that, is that the StarVR seems to only be for businesses, and the XTAL 5k costs 6000 dollars. =/
Yes, this is a sad part about wide FOV headsets. You either pay premium, or deal with Pimax issues. :-( I just felt like I had to point out that there are alternatives (even though they're way pricier).
How can you tell that StarVR is better? - We had both headsets demoed few months back and StarVR was NOT better, feels dated compared to Pimax 8K X despite having better built quality.
I can't really, as I've only heard good things about them. But this may be due to not many people having access to those or being paid to say good things.

@@SneakyJoeRu It's not bad - StarVR feels premium but picture quality was not that earth shattering as the price tag would suggest, also, depsite having OLED and better lenses it still suffered from SDE and godrays like any other headset. 8K X on the other hand - despite having only 75 Hz delivered way crispier and more readable image. Pimax felt cheaper on the touch but had bigger wow effect than then StarVR. We went with Occulus quest 2 in the end as it's just cheaper and allows easier setup than any lighthouse based solution that matters when you want to train 15-20 people a day onsite and then move to next site, etc.
@@dexio85 Well, considering it's 1830x1464 per eye, not proper 4k, but slightly above 1440p, it should be better than 5k xr in every aspect, but will be worse in clarity if you compare with 8kx. Maybe I'd prefer it to 8k+ for slight additional clarity.

Yes. Withh Pimax you'll have too much butthurt to justify it's purchase. Just go and read pimax subreddit for a few minutes you'll be persuaded not to get it.
@Wasif g2 has inside out tracking. Best you can do is add lighthouse tracking for controllers. Not for HMD.

I’ve got the Q2, the G2 and now the Pimax 8kX. Not happy with the Pimax at all, I honestly think both the G2 and Q2 blow it out the water. I also have a high end rig so it’s 100% up for any AAA game. But the Pimax is terrible.

Got the pimax artisan yesterday and took forever to get it working properly. Then when I finally did, I was so underwhelmed I went and asked for a refund that same day. I am still on my og vive 2018 with lens mod and deluxe audio strap. What a terrible terrible headset.
I ordered a 5k Plus last march, still havent got nothing.
Pimax customers services is complet crap, they barely speak english.
I gave them loss notification from both carrier, they just don t care and I can t do shit about it.
I just have lost 1300$.
I strongly advice avoiding their products.

Please don't buy G2. I got one due to the reviews that mentioned how "crisp" it looks but they all failed to mention that it's only clear in the center and falls out very fast to blurry mess. It's completely useless in flight simulator games because you constantly need to rotate your head to see the gauges. The reviews were skewed.

@@kamenwaticlients Hmd is not a convenient monitor replacement solution. Playing in the big picture, movies, vr games, normal hmd is enough for that. Even if hmd had ppd 10K you will still not see the keyboard and you will have something on your head ... For work I think that AR goggles would be the perfect solution for a completely dark room and a backlit keyboard ... then it would make sense ...

Well this proves using the term "honest review" in your title doesn't make it true. I went from a Oculus CV1 to a Pimax 5K. I loved the Oculus CV1, but the Pimax was a big step up in detail available in Elite Dangerous. Your through the lens are very disingenuous. I guessing this video is just click bait.

It's a placebo caused by RGB strip screen, not pentile patterned oled. In fact any pimax has WORSE **DETAIL** reproduction.
@@SneakyJoeRu Perhaps some of the issue here is that the TheHog107 might be talking about the 5k+, which is sharper because it's the same resolution but not pentile. When I compare the 5k+ to the Vive (the two headsets I own) I think the Pimax is much sharper, but the Vive is wider FOV than the Rift.
About your statement that any Pimax has worse detail than the Rift, didn't you say in this video (1:50) that the 8K X had more PPD? Are you excluding that from your statement?
@@hOZish7 Every time I say about bad Pimax PPD I add a note "with an exception of 8kx". I did it like 3 times during the video.

I still think the 5k+ must give the Oculus Rift a run for its money in terms of detail due to the different subpixel arrangements. I thought there were lots of videos proving this at the time.
@@hOZish7 I hardly believe that it's better tho, since even with 8k+ vision I favor oculus in terms of text clarity and small details rendering. But I guess all people are different. This was just my opinion and common math I did because I saw how bad pimaxes are in comparison.
I'm waiting for a 8k per eye version from oculus or other reputable company. I bought the pimax and never used.

Looks like only 1 of my 16 USB ports works well with 8k+v. + one on the videocard. When plugged to it, it finally started booting fine every time.
Pitool jumps are still happening even after system reinstall with a different iso. (edit) In 281 pitool version the bug with jumping interface was resolved. After 2 years I made it public.

When did you buy the XR?? That cracking has been going on since the launch of the Pimax 8K's over a year ago, cant believe Pimax is still pushing this sh!t on its customers :((
The xr is with me for a bit over then a year. They said to me that blue headsets won't crack that badly and they even were selling blue 5k+ for a limited time.

mid= pimax 5k.resolution 2560x1440 x2.resolution much higher than major vr headset.with 160 degree fov. so the ppd is ok. it is about 16. close to valve index ,same with rift s,sofar so good, price 600 dollar
high=pimax 5k xr.resolution 2560x1440x2,resolution high, but using oled screen, so the real ppd are much lower than pimax 5k. it is about 12 same like pimax artisan but much better color and contrast, expensive=850 dollar,most no worst pimax headset to buy

Visual PPD of 8k or 8k+ is same as 5k/5k xr. So image will still be worse for a degree than on.
Preserved image quality on 5k xr is worse than on other headsets due to high spacing between pixels.
Only 8kX has better actual and visual ppd than all other mentioned headsets.

bullshit all of the things in the video. im using 5kx for a year now, the best headsets for sims on the market. there are a lot of thru the lenses comparison videos about it, everyone can check for true. no any issues the video tells. simply not true. i had oculus and valve index i have sold them after purchased pimax. this is simple a fake video!!!
