!!!--*[IMPORTANT READ ME]*--!!! - So sorry for some of the confusion, I'm an idiot and completely missed a step. In the gimbal, make sure you go to the CAMERA menu and set it to Panasonic. - Also make sure your GH5 or G9's switch is set to MF instead of AFS (the dial near the right side of the eye piece) - "If you leave the GH5 on auto-focus and PRESS ("OK" ON THE GIMBAL) it will focus on the subject in front of the camera" (Tip from @Abel Bautista ) *[--WILL THIS CAMERA OR ZHIYUN GIMBAL WORK?--]* This was the list I referenced to determine this test to see if it actually did work with a GH5. I have linked some of their other popular gimbals for reference. Some have not been updated any more. Hope @zhiyun will continue to work with newer popular cameras as they come out on their flagship gimbals. Hey hey Fabien Gailledrat! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! You're most welcome! This is definitely an awesome feature as this further enhances the solidity of the Gh5 system and lens combo. I look forward to playing with this more when I have more of an opportunity to use it on a project! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hi all, this worked for me. Thanks TLDR Filmmaker I also would like to add, in case anyone had missed it. If you leave the GH5 on auto-focus and PRESS ("OK" ON THE GIMBAL) it will focus on the subject in front of the camera. So we have 2 options for focusing.
Hey hey Abel! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Oh sweet! That's great to know! Thank you so much for sharing this tip! I'm gonna add it to the pinned comment! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Wanderer Mike! Thank you so much for checking out this video, commenting! I'm so glad this video got to you and that it all works! Enjoy it and I will continue to do my best with my content and reviews! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
I was using this all day yesterday shooting B-Roll for a car show. I have an adapted Canon lens on my GH5 and it’s one of my favorite things. I would not have gotten some serious shots without it.
Hey hey robolizard222! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Awesome!! I've been waiting so long to be able to use a follow focus on a gimbal. The group I work with have had them before on the older gen 1 dual handle setups, but they were not the best things in the world back then. I can't wait to try this out with my budget Arri Trinity setup thats coming in another video. The prototype feels really easy to move and get smooth shots, adding in the ability to now pull focus, I cannot wait to deploy it on a project once I practice some more. Stay tuned! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
I was debating to get Ronin SC for my GH5 but saw this video it was totally blew my mind now Weebill S on my list too. Love that that tethered connection focus. Thanks for the tip.
Hey hey Phue! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! So glad you found this video! The tether feature that this gimbal utilizes is definitely awesome. I think Ronin's can work with some cameras out there, double check to see if they have updated their firmwares to handle Panasonics tether protocol. If so, you have more options to choose from instead of just one! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey 3mille! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Thats great! Awesome to hear! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey nndoorgaans! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! So glad this video was helpful! The one step I missed was to make sure your gimbals camera setting it set to Pana. Most people I think figured this out cause they already had it set, but just incase you try it and it doesn't work. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Fun fact for you, the Panasonic S1 and S1H is listed to be able to utilize this feature. If the focus gauge shows up on the screen when you move your Sigma Prime's focus ring, then in theory this should work for you too.
Hey hey Jason, great that you shared this! I wish this did work for Sony natively, as I'm shooting with a Weebil S and a Sony, I have found that you can wrangle the camera to alter aperture and iso through the gimbal if you switch from Sony to Panasonic/Canon mode in the gimbal when using the usb-micro to usb-micro cable. Also there is the Zhiyun CMF-04 TransMount Servo which attaches to the gimbal to enable to focus wheel.
Hey hey again Neil! I tried your suggestion, unfortunately for the A7Siii, it does not recognize that its being attached to a computer when using the Micro-USB in those modes. It does recognize it with the USB-C and actually receives power from the gimbal (nice!) but alas non of the features including the record button works. Hope Zhiyun updates their firmware to include functions with the A7Siii!
Hey hey again Jose! You're most welcome! I may have the Sony A7Siii now in my hands, but that doesn't kill my love for the ever versatile GH5! The GH5 just got even better with this feature and being able to fly such a small setup. The two lenses I'm likely to use for focus pulling gimbal shots will be my 20mm f1.7 and Oly 12-40 f2.8 (For more flexibility to focal lengths). The Budget Trinity would really be a interesting tool to utilize, but I may attempted a slightly different route than whats out there, we'll see! Hope you are well my friend, stay healthy and safe!
@@TLDR_filmmaker Man I can't wait to get the A7SIII, hopefully for xmas. I definitely agree with you on the GH5 and I'm really considering getting the Weebil S now. Only thing is I wish there was a way to also have zoom control without having to get a separate remote system, like if the Weebil S could also have both focus and zoom controls that the Crane 3 has. Perhaps if you could suggest it to Zhiyun? :D Also, really looking forward to your review of the A7SIII!
Thanks a lot for pointing this out! I've literally spent days trying to decide between the weebill s and the ronin sc and this might really be an important point to finally going for the weebill.
Hey hey Sile! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! So glad this video was helpful! Remember if you are using a different camera than the GH5 like I'm using, check the camera compatibility list on their website or the links I put in the description. Sony's don't work on this model as far as I know. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Try different USB cables, if you are not using the original one that came with the gimbal it may cause some problems. Also make sure in the gimbals menu that you set the camera to "Panasonic" or whichever camera brand you are using.
Hey hey again djmacdoctor! No, the AB points didn't seem to do anything, most likely because in tether mode the GH5 doesn't have that specific function in terms of AB point focus boundaries. I feel more camera companies need to think about this function, it should be very easy to do because of the electronic motor data being relayed to the camera. It would help with the transition for people to invest specifically into a mirrorless mount lens.
Hey hey Achuthan! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! So glad you got this working! I will continue to do my best with my content! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Many thanks for your video which (thankfully) doesn't have any annoying long intro or REALLY annoying background music found in so many of these things. Why do people do that?!) and also for the update re Panasonic. I have been using a Panasonic gh5 with a third party remote and it works great. It obviously involves using a remote controller in one hand and the gimbal/camera in another, so if this setup works, then that would be an improvement. Best tutorial video I've watched this year, so thanks again.
Hey hey Dave! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! So happy that you enjoyed this video and like the format of the channel! I definitely tried to do something different! Hey hey again Christina! Definitely super useful with all the awesome MFT lenses out there! I already started testing my concepts of my own budget version of the Arri Trinity system and the results are quite promising. Stay tuned! Stay healthy and safe!
In case this will help anyone, i tried the same thing with my Canon Eos R and the 35mm 1.8 RF and the focus wheel on the Weebill S works perfectly 👌🏻, so thanks for this tip !
Hey hey Bilel! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! That's awesome to hear! Thanks again for adding to the community and stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey, great video! I try to change from foto to video on the weelbill s for my GH5 - I can`t find the function - then I could change av, shutter etc...Thank you
Hey hey khr1966! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Make sure when you select the camera type on the Zhiyun that it is set to Pana. Also make sure you are using a USB cable that is capable of transmitting data. Unfortunately it's not easy to determine if your USB cable carries data so you will have to try a few. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Amazing Kitchen! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! You're most welcome! Yup yup, definitely a win for GH5 users! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey AMAK Records! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I'm not sure if the 200d will work, you need to check Zhiyun's camera compatibility list to see if any cameras with similar build as the 200d is supported. Ultimately it depends on the cameras ability to USB tether to a laptop with focus controls. If Canon has a laptop app that allows for this that works with the 200d, then there could be a chance it works. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Thanks to this video and this guy, only here I could find information on focusing via cable!
Thank you for still giving us such helpful stuff on the gh5! Any developments on the built in nd solution for the a7s3 you briefly commented on a couple months back please? 😁
Hey hey again Jerome! Of course! I'm not abandoning this camera just because of my A7Siii now in the office! Those passive adapters are slowly making their way here from overseas. Really hoping one of them or all of them perform quite well as I begin working with Slog2 and 3.
This is a huge lifesaver for my GH5 setup with my Leica 12-60mm. Do you know if this would work on manual lenses? I have a Sirui 35mm anamorphic and it doesn't seem to work with this setup :(((( I hope I'm just doing something wrong and it actually does work.
Hey hey JAMEEL! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Glad this video was helpful for you. Not your Sirui or any of full manual lens will never work. This feature requires the lens to talk to the camera electronically. If you want to follow focus the Sirui you have two options. You can either purchase the follow focus motor for the Weebill S directly, however this options will limit the use of that follow focus to only the gimbal, you can never use it on another rig setup. Or you can get something like what I reviewed recently: th-cam.com/video/Uyt4y-ENClk/w-d-xo.html That way you can use it on any rig you please. Hope this helps. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Davide! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! You're most welcome! When you have it high mode, you can't crank the wheel super fast and have it move the focus super fast. It still behaves like a fly by wire so there is a sweet spot where it will move faster. The sigma lens is a slightly different story, it won't move as fast as a native MFT lens, but I do find this not to be a major problem as most shots on a gimbal don't require a full Close to Infinity focus pull. But if this is something you need to do regularly for 90% of your shots. Then you'll definitely want to go with the mechanical focus motor accessory. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Murat! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I believe someone in the comments confirmed that their S5 worked. It in theory should work because Panasonic has pretty standard USB-Lanc function that allows this focus mechanism to work. Thanks again for stopping by! Hey hey Stevie Visuals! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! NO sorrily not. I tried my Pana G85 and GX 85 and they cannot be tethered only my G9 can. So the gimbal works ell as a gimbal but no camera control... focusing only with the motor...
Hey hey Kevin and Bánáti! Thank you so much for checking out this video, commenting, and engaging! In the pinned comment I've attached the camera lists and it looks like the S1 and S1H is on that list to work, we'll see if the S5 has the same protocol so that it can work as well. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker I can report that the G9 works as well!!! absolutely everything BUT the android app is problematic..not everything works sorrily. I just got TILTA focus gear rubber rings to my lenses from E-Bay and they work GREAT!!! Quite cheap and great quality and wide. I can really recommend it to everyone. (Bánáti is my family name just call me "jano" :-) Thanks
Hey hey Dr. Fritz! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Isn't it? Saves such more on the weight of the rig! It's not perfect, but good enough for realistic usage in a shot. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
I lost the wire that came with the lab s but bought another one not zhiyun cable and it's not working with my prime lens 25mm do it only work with non prime lens
Hey hey BIG LOU STL! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I do not know if the Lab S is compatible, I talked about this a little bit but you'll need to check the camera compatibility list for the Lab S to see if it can even work with a GH5. Last I knew it wasn't not on the list and the Weebill S was the first one that had GH5 support. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Have my GH5, Weebill S, Sigma 18-35 and the Viltrox EF-M2 adapter.. all updated to newest firmware, and still can't get this function to work!?!? Any ideas on what to try next? I can't seem to find any FAQ or information about this feature anywhere online. Help!
Hey hey Dino! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! The only thing I can think of is to make sure your GH5's AF switch near the eyepiece is set to MF. So I would make sure the Lens is set to AF, the GH5 switch is set to Manual before you turn on the camera. Confirm that when you move the Sigma Focus that the "focus guide thing" shows up on the screen, if it doesnt, press the little "pre af" button either on the camera or on the screen (the AF box button) and that should force the GH5 to recognize that a lens with AF is being used. That's all I can think of to try. Double check that you told the gimbal that you are using a Pana camera. Does your GH5 ask you about "tether mode"? Maybe also double check the Camera menu and see if there is a "USB" or "Remote" menu settings where you can adjust it to understand when its plugged into a computer. I'm still on very old GH5 firmware. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
TLDR Filmmaker you fixed it! It was what you said, leaving the switch near the eyepiece on MF instead of AFS, then turning everything on after it’s set. Thank you so much! I love this new feature and had no idea it was out until your video.
Hey hey Jonathan! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Awesome to hear! Panasonics USB protocol seems like it just hasn't changed, so I'm going to guess their next GH6 and future S cameras should still work too! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
You are literally the only mention I can find on this function, can't even find anything on Google. I have an S1 and a native lens but it doesn't work :( is it just GH cameras?
Hey hey Andy! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Someone in the comments had confirmed that it works on the S5, so the S1 should work too as it seems all Panasonic Cameras since the GH5 has Tether capabilities to their laptop app. Double check a couple things. I missed a step in this video that you need to make sure your gimbal is set to camera "Pana" in the menu system. Check your camera's menu if there is a USB mode menu, from there make sure its not just in a power or hard drive mode, but rather that it is in a tether mode or some mode that suggests its meant to be controlled over USB. Give the firmware of the gimbal an update. Double check that your cameras FOCUS mode is not on AF and make sure its in Manual Mode. If your lens has a AF and MF switch make sure its on AF mode before you turn on the camera. And of course, if you have a full vintage manual lens that has no Electronic connection to the cameras, those lenses will just not work at all. It needs to be an electronic communicating lens. Hope some of these troubleshooting steps helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hi I followed all ths teps including the camera menu setting to pana and setting the switch to MF. The wheel focus works while not recording but as I begin to record video the focus wheel doesn't work. Any ideas on what might be the issue?
Hey hey Andrew! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Hmm... thats odd that it works when you're not recording, but then stop working when you are recording. My best guess is that your GH5 might be set in a photography mode instead of video mode. Depending on how your camera is setup, you can still hit the record button and begin recording video when you're in a photography mode. But I wonder if this is a different protocol in tether mode? Double check and put your dial to video mode (not custom slots) and see if this helps. Otherwise I'm not too sure why it doesn't work while recording. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker Thank you! Ironically the focus will work while recording when the camera is set to photography mode(M) and doesn't work during video mode...(Video camera M dial)
I did it and it worked! Thank you! Just one problem, when I record with de gimbal and I click on preview the camera just stops and crash, so I have to take the battery off and turn de camera all again. Do you what could be? Tkx!
Hey hey Francine! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Hmm...I'm not sure what that could be, are you using the original Panasonic battery or a 3rd part? Sometimes when I'm using my 3rd party battery, there are some odd things that happens for whatever reason. That's my best guess aside from making sure you have updated firmware. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hmm... that is odd, I'm not sure what else it could be at the moment. Hope you'll be able to figure it out...actually wait, try this before you hit the review button. Unplug the USB C so that the GH5 goes out of tether mode. I wonder if thats whats causing the odd behavior. Also do you have a HDMI monitor attached at the same time? Having an HDMI monitor plugged in while in tether mode has also cut some abilities of the GH5 as I don't think it was meant to do both at the same time.
@@TLDR_filmmaker No, I'm not using any monitor. When I unplug the USB C it works perfectly, but then I'm not able to change de focus and other stuff through the gimbal
I mean that you'd unplug the USB-C when you want to review a take, and then plug it back in to continue shooting. Unfortunately not the most elegant of solutions, but hopefully this can be a tempt workaround until you can nail down what could be causing this problem.
Hey hey Mateusz! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I believe someone in the comments confirmed that it works with their S5, the reason it would is because all the newer panasonic cameras still use the same USB Tether protocol. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Very informative, thanks. Question... Can you connect the siii to the Weebill S and have the record button that's on the gimbal function to turn recording on and off without having to touch the camera.
Hey hey Florida Life! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! You can connect the A7Siii however non of the features work. USB-C is the only connection that activates the camera to realize it may be connected to a PC. It receives power from the gimbal, but not features including recording from the handle works. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Tom! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! You're most welcome! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
I'm still having problems with running the Weebill S. The horizon will somehow tilt a few degrees off each time I pan the gimbal, sometimes it goes left, other right. Just dunno how to fix this! Any tips?
Hey hey again The MacDoctor! You'll want to use the smartphone app and perform a full calibration, not the auto calibration. The Full calibration will make you place the gimbal in various positions.
Hey hey Pixart Ciné PROD! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! It completely depends on what adaptor you choose to use with your GH5. If the Adaptor doesn't support your Canon lens (e.g. photography AF works) then chances are it will not work with the weebill S because the camera is not successfully talking to the lens through the adaptor. I have an Old Canon 50mm f1.8 that my Viltrox Adaptor does not work with, so its not going to work with the Weebill correctly. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
This is awesome thanks. ONE QUESTION, I have the olympus 12-40mm like you have here and I can't seem to get it to respond. Even after changing the settings on the weebil. Any guesses what I'm missing?
Hey hey Kingdom Film Company! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Glad you found the answer! This was an unfortunately oversight on my part as I already had my gimbal set to the correct camera. Enjoy this feature! Thanks again for stopping by! Wow! Dude you saved my day. Very useful review. And one more question. Is the focus wheel performing when the ef adapter is installed? Thanks in advance
Hey hey Hatef! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Yes, this is working through my Viltrox EF-M2 v1 adaptor that goes from EF to MFT. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Hugh! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Unfortunately the Nikon version will not work because there isn't really an Nikon to MFT adapter that handles the electronic data which is needed for the GH5 to understand what the lens is doing. While there have been a couple that have surfaced, I can't confirm if lens data is being transferred or is only part of the lens data like aperture transferred. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hi. Nice and informative video. Will you be able to test other gimbals as well (especially the Moza air 2 the DJI RS2) ? It'll be interesting to see all of these compared together for the GH5 and also which one is the more reliable (and easy) for setting up, avoid micro vibrations (which can happen a lot). Thanks and keep up with the good work.
Hey hey again Système D Multimédia! Glad you enjoyed this video! Unfortunately I probably won't be reviewing the other gimbals as I don't primarily use gimbals for my work. They are generally for specialty shots. There are however some great youtubers who use all these gimbals constantly and have some pretty in-depth reviews comparing all of them. For me, personally, I prefer the Weeble S by design, it packs away nicely and I like that the bottom and top handle configuration can be customized more easily and built into the core of the gimbal instead of being attached.
Hey thanks for the video. I can’t seem to get the follow focus ring to work with my gh5. I followed your instructions but it doesn’t prompt me to select the usb mode when I turn on my camera. I’m using the 25mm 1.4 Leica lens but it doesn’t have the auto focus switch on the lens itself. Is this lens compatible with the follow focus control?
Hey hey Dead Epic! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Two things. One is that in the video I somehow forgot to mention that you need to make sure your gimbal's "Camara" setting is set to Pana. The second thing is to make sure your USB cable going from your gimbal to camera is one that carry's data. If you are not using the original Zhiyun cable, try other ones and see. Unfortunately not all USB cables are built the same, some only carry power, some carry both power and data. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Prince Nancy! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I believe it should because it has the larger cage setup. Similar to the Zhiyun you may want to add a Quick release place to make the camera side heavier for better balancing to clear the rear motor. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey milanzeremski! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I do not have an EOS R, double check the camera compatibility list that I have linked in the description to see if the EOS R is usable. Make sure your tell the gimbal that you're plugging into a Canon. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Diego! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! You can use either or, this lens is very sharp, it all just depends on what your exposure and depth of field needs are for the shot. Since you're on a gimbal, 2.8 is probably the best choice as you're pulling focus. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey again Pawel! The newer Zhiyun cranes would probably be the better bet. The Weebill S is good for smaller setups even though its motors are quite strong. You'll want the slightly larger gimbals to handle the weight and balance point of a GH5 and Sigma 18-35 combination.
I'm having trouble getting the GH5 with the sigma balanced on the weebill-S. You said something about using a quick release adapter. Could you tell me which one this is? Or do you have any other solutions/tips?

Hi TLDR Have you ever tried the Zhiyun Image Transfer system??? That also seems to be quite cool. I got a receiver and just ordering the transmitter unit, if it works how they promise it will also be kind of game changer...
Hey hey Pawel! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! In theory it should work because the later versions of the metabones smart adaptors and boosters carry the electronic data of the lens through the GH5. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Chris! It's not perfect when it comes to the Sigma 18-35 as its focus motor is of the older style. Native fly-by-wire lenses do a bit better as they have more steps inbetween each focusing distance. At the end of the day, using an actual focus motor on these older HSM focus motor lenses would be better. But this will help you in a pinch if you need it.
Great video, hope somebody can help.. I have a Pan GH5S and connected the Weebill S as per advice on this video. The focus wheel works great when not in record mode..as soon as I record, the focus gauge on screen disappears and when I turn the wheel nothing happens. Any idea? Thanks in advance.
That is odd, I'm not sure what could be causing that when you go into recording :( . Hopefully someone else has an idea as I'm not sure if the GH5S is slightly different than the GH5 when it begins recording and how the Zhiyun Gimbal interacts with it.
Hey hey again The Corbett Music Group! I have not done a specific review on that full setup yet or filmed a project with that setup yet. No projects I've been on have called for such a setup, especially with the way the team I'm on works. We'll see if I deploy it in 2021!
Hey dude, thanks for the great video and information. 😊 👌 Right now I am using a viltrox adapter, do you recommend buying the viltrox speedbooster to use this feature or better go for the focus ring? Is this a feature you use a lot? Greetings
Hey hey Norain! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! The booster version shouldn't have any affect in terms of how it works. When it really comes down to it, a focus motor would be better than this if you are using a lens that has traditional mechanical focusing. If you have a fly-by-wire lens on the GH5, this E-Focus is the best thing in my opinion. I haven't gotten to use this feature a lot because of the current times and projects are slow. However I am happy that this option is now available, as when I was filming with the GH5 I refused to rig up a system with a focus motor on the current style of gimbals because its weight distribution is not ergonomic at all and I would never force my camera op's to work like that. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey vinza pramana putra! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Awesome! Thank you so much for confirming this for anyone here that may have the M50. What lenses do you use with your gimbal setup? Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Ariel! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! If I had to guess, the only lenses where Zoom could work is the legacy PZ mft lenses (power zoom) I think there was only two PZ lenses that Panasonic every produced, both were vari-aperture. I have a GH5, and a like new Weebill S, (firmware 2.03 - camera set to Panasonic) and am using the Leica DG Vario Elmart 12-60, 2.8-4.0 lens on the camera. My rotary switch on R side of the eyepiece is set to MF, focus switch on the lens to autofocus. I set the GH5 to tether mode at power up. I am getting the "lens attachment failed" error, regardless of the AF/MF switch on the lens. The only other non-full manual lens I own is a Canon 28-70 2.8L on a Metabones Speedbooster (.64X) I have NOT tried that yet, since I have it perfectly balanced. But I may try it tomorrow. Am I SOL for not having the Sigma lens, or am I missing something? I'm kind of excited about follow focus and NOT needing to buy a motor kit for that. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey hey Scott! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! There was a major step I forgot to mention as I already had it set. Make sure you tell the gimbal that you are connecting to a PANA camera. Go into the menu and there should be a selection that asks about your Camera. Set that to Pana and then try again. Hopefully thats it, if it still doesnt work... I have no idea what could be bringing up that error when you enter into USB Tether mode. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker I FOUND A WORKAROUND: Gimbal Settings: E-Focus. CAMERA: Panason(ic) Connect cable to GH5, but NOT the gimbal yet. Turn on Gimbal; Turn on GH5. Plug in cable to gimbal. Follow focus works then. BUT it is kind of crap for precision. But, it "worked." As you rack focus, it'll wander a bit, it seems. So, go smooth and soft. I'll try some adjustments in the gimbal controls and see it works. This is for the Leica Vario 12-60 2.8-4.0 native lens, btw. I will try it with my Metabones and Canon EF 28-70 2.8L later. Thanks for the video, it got me 90% there. Now I have to wonder if my GH5 USB-C or the lens have any issues...
Awesome! Glad you got it to work. You may want to try a more Data Driven USB C cable like from a hard drive. Not all USB C cables are made the same and theres really no way to tell if yours supplies only power or both power and high data throughput. So it could be that your USB C cable isn't quite up to snuff and when GH5 goes into tether mode with the Gimbal that the data throughput is not making it through.
@@TLDR_filmmaker I'll have to check that out. I am using the cable from the original packing. I bought the Weebill used, at a great price, so haven't gone beyond learning it at this point.
ADDENDUM: An easier solution to my problem: Have all connections made, but turn the camera on FIRST. THEN the gimbal. Follow focus will work, if you are having the "lens attachment failed" error. It may work with any lens combination, but I don't know for sure. Again, this is for the Native Leica Vario 12-60 2.8-4.0 native lens, btw. I will try it with my Metabones and Canon EF 28-70 2.8L later.
Hey hey holywaterandgreentea! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! You're most welcome! Hope this helps with your setup and use-case if you are rocking this combo! Hi, been trying to figure out the issue of the GH5 lcd screen going black immediately after I turned on the external monitor, any fix to that? I need the lcd to be on at the same time whilst using the external mon coz the waveform doesn't get 'reflected' externally anyway.
Hey hey djmacdoctor! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I can't quite remember, but check the comments below where I replied to someone on this question with this setup. I can't remember, either I think if you turn off HDMI control it may come back or you can't do this trick with a external monitor while sending the GH5 into tether mode. The reason is because tether mode is telling the GH5 that a computer is the one monitoring the camera instead of someone behind the camera. That could be why the GH5 screen isn't on because its technically sending that signal through the USB-C. However, since you have an external monitor, I would actually use false color, its my preferred method for exposure as I can dial in everything in the scene very quickly. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker thx for the reply. Just thinking of something else, what if I can get another cable that connects from the gimbal via the regular micro usb to the GH5's side remote connection instead of using the GH5's usbc? It may sound absurd, but will this solve the problem?
You're most welcome! It would but if you went through the remote connection you won't be able to pull focus or anything like that with this gimbal, it may not understand the LANC function I don't think. If it did, you'd only be able to hit the record button.
What adapter did you use to fit the sigma lens? Will this work with a GH-4? Oops just checked your used gear list to discover the adapter. Still curious about the GH-4.
Hey hey again theweeklyonline! The GH4 unfortunately will not work as the GH4 does not have a USB tether connection ability. It only has the old school lanc remote port which does not have support on this gimbal. Older gimbals had this support but all you could really do was hit the record button and that was it.

most of the panasonic lens are non linear focus, right? will the focus wheel on the weebill s be a linear focus? because i find it impossible to accurately manual focus on those non-linear focusing style lens
Hey hey Ditya! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Correct, most have a exponential response with a speed of focus ring factor. This wheel on the weebill sort of behaves the same way but not as aggressive as the focus ring on the lens itself. I actually find it easier to pull focus with the weebill because of this since most focus moves arn't super drastic unless you are attempting to go from Close to Infinity. Is it perfect? No, but to me it feels easier to pull gimbal focus than before. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hi, how did you managed to balance your set up? I have almost the same setup, GH5s, Sigma 18-35, Viltrox and the Weebil S & I'm having trouble utilizing the gimbal cos the lens is too heavy.
Hey hey Ravin! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I talk about it briefly in the setup portion, I added a pretty beefy quick release plate setup onto the gimbal to add weight towards the camera side. There are many things you can use to weight down the camera side, you can get creative with it with USB battery banks and such. Just make sure its not too bulky so that the camera can still move freely within the range of the gimbal motors. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Ivan! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I do not personally know as I do not have a GX8 to test, I would check the camera compatibility list that I linked in the description to see if its listed. If it's not listed, then your best bet is to check online if the GX8 has the "USB Tether" feature where you can tether it to your computer and control the camera from the panasonic App. If it cannot accomplish this feature, then most likely the GX8 is not going to work. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Eric! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I can't say for sure as I do not have that lens. However, if you turn on the AF mode on the lens before you turn on the GH5, and on the touch screen when you hit the "AF" button and the lens moves and achieves focus. This means that there is communication going between the GH5 through the viltrox into the TOkina. Which in turn means that the Tether mode will communicate to the lens so that the Weebill will be able to move focus. This is my best observation as to why this combination worked, its because I know the Sigma does communicate fully and accurately when in AF mode through the Viltrox. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Scoobie Dee! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Unfortunately the Nikon version of the Sigma I don't think will work because there hasn't been too many successful Nikon Adapters to MFT that carry an electronic signal to the camera. There are a couple electronic adapters out now, but not sure how much information they translate over. If there is a full translation, then in theory the sigma should work. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey efcrackeN! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! If I remember correctly, I have the camera compatibility list linked in the desciption. The GH5 does not support E-focus on the original Weeble. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Malay! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Check your USB settings in the GH5 and also try different cables. If you are using a cable that didn't original come with the Weebill S, it most likely does not have the Data channels to communicate with the GH5. Unfortunately not all USB cables are built the same even though they all look the same. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker I changed the settings in the menu so the option shows up now but I'm still not connecting 🤔. Everything should be in manual mode yes? Lens, camera, menu options...
Yes, Camera should be in Manual mode. I forgot one step in this video where you need to tell the gimbal you are using a Pana camera. Lastly make sure the wheel is to control E-Focus instead of the other options.
Hey hey Alan! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I don't have a Metabones, but I assume it will work just the same. The tall tell sign is when you move the focus ring on your lens and the focus gauge on the Gh5 shows up. Just gotta make sure your lens is set on AF before you turn on the GH5. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Sjoerd! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! If you are talking about this specific setup, you'll notice I talk about adding a quick release plate to put more weight towards the camera side so that I can counter the lenses weight. It's a balancing act of trying to make sure your camera setup balance point is closer to the lens mount instead of towards the lens. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey Dan! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! As far as I knew, the original Weebill lab could not do this function. You may want to check out Zhiyun's website as i'm not sure if a firmware update could allow this feature with the older gimbal. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey again Yuandrew! No, my Sony A7Siii does not work. According to the camera list that I pinned to the top comment. It does not look like Sony cameras can utilize the E-focus on the Zhiyun. But some viewers brought to my attention that the DJI Ronin S and SC were able to.
Hey hey Coast Academy! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I do not know as I do not have experience using the Canon lens with the viltrox adaptor. If I remember correctly the 24-70L was fine with the viltrox adaptors. You'll want to double check the lens list on VIltrox's website. If you are able to use your GH5 and use AF while in photography mode, then it should work like the sigma lens as my sigma lens is able to use AF in photo mode with the Viltrox. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
What?! How did I not know this? I just tested this with my Lumix S5 and it works too, but it seems that it doesn't recognize the linear focus mode, hmm need some more testing, but so far it works surprisingly well.
Hey hey Patrick! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Right?! What a awesome feature for Panasonic shooters! My guess is that Zhiyun and Panasonics Tether system both need to recognize the linear focus mode. With this being an older gimbal I don't know if Zhiyun has since updated their firmware to see it. But I also don't know if Panasonics Tether software recognizes it either as I think the tether software isn't there to perform critical focus pulls, only just one shot AF's. Those are my thoughts on why it may not be working. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hi, I have a lumix S5 and a weebill s with a sigma mc-21 and I'm trying to use the electronic focus with a sigma 18-35 lens. I tried everything but it doesn't work yet. Lens in auto focus, camera in manual focus mode, usb teather mode and electric focus in the gimbal menu. Can you help me what I might be missing? Thanks a lot!
Hey hey Michael! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! You'll definitely want to use some more counterweights on the camera side if you are adding a transmission kit. Mainly because I was already using a QR mounting and plate to try and add enough weight to counter the Sigma. That being said it could be quite heavy of a setup. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker oh this is good to know!!! Ion that basis would the rsc2 be a better shout for me? The price difference for thf image transmission kits right now is slim between both models yet the base kits are significant with the weebil only $399 cad but the rsc2 around $579. Im not sure if investing in a camera with in body stabilisation instead would be smarter right now lol
Hey hey again Ron! I have pinned the Weebill Lab camera list in the comments. It does not seem that generation had this feature, it looks like it just had basic camera setting controls but no E-Focus controls.
Hey hey Kadehr! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! According to the camera list that I pinned to the top. The BMPCC 4k is indeed listed. However you will want to double check that when you hit the AF button on the BMPCC 4k that your lens via the booster does indeed move the lens focus and if there is a focus gauge that shows up (idk if the BMPCC 4k has one, I don't have the camera). If all that stuff shows up, then that means the BMPCC 4k recognizes the lenses EXIF data, so in theory, it will also work. Just like how my GH5 recognize the data coming from my Sigma. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Omg if only I had known this before! The only thing that was making the setup for me unfeasible was because of the focus motor! I sold my 18-35mm shortly after lol :(
Hey hey Jeric! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! Aw mannnn! Hopefully you've replaced that lens with something that works for your needs? Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker Yes luckily lol. My setup is lighter by using the Olympus pro lenses. 17mm, 25mm and 45mm all weigh the same. Now without the focus motor, it'll be easier to just swap lenses for differing focal lengths. And the 7-14mm for wider composition also works by just adjusting the first axis by 1-4mm depending on focal length. The advantage of the 18-35mm is that it's a zoom lens. And you can extend the reach by using Metabones' speedbooster and plain Mft metabones adaper. So you're getting a field of view from 10-35mm. (~20-70mm) by swapping metabones adapter.
Hey hey again S Singh! Hahaha isn't it? This is so nice compared to needing a motor and a full manual lens. This fly-by-wire is just good enough where I can work with it. I've already begun some initial concept tests with my budget Arri Trinity setup, the results are quite promising and I think something that many can benefit from. Stay tuned as I iron out the design and build of it!
Hey hey Filmgrade! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! No you cannot, that Laowa is a full manual lens, it does not talk to the GH5 so therefor the gimbal can't talk to it to move the focus ring. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
I have GH5 with lumix zoom lens 12-35. I followed your settings on weebill S. But focus is not working with the wheel on weeble S. Any tips to make it work? thanks
Hey hey NeilMusician! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! I later found out that you need to make sure your GH5 is set to MF mode on the dial near the eyepiece. So have the lens AF on and MF on the Gh5 before you turn on the camera, and that should do it. Also double check in your menus about USB function and see if there is any settings in the menu to make sure you're in the right tether mode. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hmm... the last thing I can think of is to see if you're on the latest firmware for the gimbal and GH5 and update them. Do you get the prompt for the USB Tether from the GH5 when you turn it on? A random thing, but if you have a HDMI plugged into the GH5 when its on the gimbal. Try it without the GH5 attached to a monitor and see. I had a theory that when you have HDMI plugged in that the GH5 doesn't go into true tether mode as tether mode also sends a video signal.
Ahhh that would definitely be the problem part then. Hmm... the only thing I can think of is that either the Cable is not working or the USB port on either the GH5 of Zhiyun is not working as the tether mode is needed. Try to see if you can force it to go into tether mode. Plug everything in and turn on as usual. Go into your GH5 settings and go to the USB menu where you can select USB tether manually. See if that works.
Hey hey a56kuser! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! No, this will not work because the Viltrox NF-M43 boosted adaptor does not transmit any electronic signal to the GH5. Therefore the GH5 cannot communicate to your Sigma Lens to move the focus motor. There is a non-boosted version that has electrical contacts, but I do not know how well it really works in general. You would have to purchase and try it to see if it works. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
May I ask a general question about pulling focus on a manual lens such as my Sirius 50mm anamorphic and my GH5. Rather than placing my hand on the lens and turning the focus ring, what options are there for me to use? I have a gimbal (Zhiyun v2), a Smallrig cage and Ninja V. I'm more than happy to get a different gimbal if this would help matters. As you can see from my massive subs count, I just do this for a hobby/distraction from work. 😀 Cheers
Hey hey Frank! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Generally speaking you'll need to get a dedicated follow focus motor, preferable wireless. Each gimbal company has their own proprietary (sometimes) motor that works with their gimbals so you can use the wheel that's already there. However some people move from gimbal to other rigs and would like to have a wireless follow focus system of their own that can move from setup to setup. I've only reviewed the PD MOVIE live air 2: th-cam.com/video/Uyt4y-ENClk/w-d-xo.html The other popular one is called the Nucleus Nano N. The main difference is how each one is powered and weight difference. The Nucleus being the lightest but the most cumbersome to power as you have to wire it up. The PD movie is heavier, but has its own battery so you don't have wires messing with your gimbal setup. Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker Good evening, Thank you so much for the useful information about follow focusing. I shall also look into ways of focusing with my little Smallrigg setup. Now that I have a GH5, the gimbal is gathering dust on a shelf these days. My latest little episode was shot "hand held" with the lens in autofocus until it became too dark to focus. I then went manual focus to eliminate the dreaded focus hunting. May I ask if Follow Focus can be used handheld, or would I need to consider a shoulder rig to get the best out of a manual lens? Cheers

Hello, I’m considering the Weebil S for my GH5 Sigma 18-35. Have you found any issues balancing this unit since the time of this video? Do you need to remove eye cup at all when using it? Any updates using the Weebils internal focus with the 18-35? Thanks so much!
Hey hey again The Corbett Music Group! Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I haven't used this setup in awhile, really the only thing you need to do is make sure you put more weight to the camera side like I did with the quick release system. One thing I forgot to put in the video is that make sure you tell the gimbal to adhere to "Pana" camera and make sure your camera is set to MF instead of AF. As I say with this setup, its not perfect, but decent enough for most focus pulls. If you are wanting to go from close up to infinity real quick, you will need a motor focus setup. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey hey NEXTDIRECTIONFILMS! Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! My gut is telling me no. But you'll want to check the weebill s camera capability list. The T3i did have a canon tether features I believe, but this was way back when so the feature of pulling focus may not be there. At most you can probably just hit the record button and maybe do a one time AF before recording. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
!!!--*[IMPORTANT READ ME]*--!!!
- So sorry for some of the confusion, I'm an idiot and completely missed a step.
In the gimbal, make sure you go to the CAMERA menu and set it to Panasonic.
- Also make sure your GH5 or G9's switch is set to MF instead of AFS (the dial near the right side of the eye piece)
- "If you leave the GH5 on auto-focus and PRESS ("OK" ON THE GIMBAL) it will focus on the subject in front of the camera" (Tip from @Abel Bautista )
*[--WILL THIS CAMERA OR ZHIYUN GIMBAL WORK?--]*
This was the list I referenced to determine this test to see if it actually did work with a GH5. I have linked some of their other popular gimbals for reference. Some have not been updated any more. Hope @zhiyun will continue to work with newer popular cameras as they come out on their flagship gimbals.

Awesome!! I've been waiting so long to be able to use a follow focus on a gimbal. The group I work with have had them before on the older gen 1 dual handle setups, but they were not the best things in the world back then. I can't wait to try this out with my budget Arri Trinity setup thats coming in another video. I think Ronin's can work with some cameras out there, double check to see if they have updated their firmwares to handle Panasonics tether protocol. If so, you have more options to choose from instead of just one!

Great tip Jason! Such a cool feature
This is HUGE! Thank you for sharing this Jason! Hope you've been well my friend. Can't wait to see your budget Arri Trinity set up! Cheers!

Hello, why does panasonic gh5 disconnect?
Try different USB cables, if you are not using the original one that came with the gimbal it may cause some problems. Also make sure in the gimbals menu that you set the camera to "Panasonic" or whichever camera brand you are using.
hi again, is it possible to set the AB points on the gimbal coz I didn't hear you mention anything about that.
Oh oh oh. It worked awsome. Dude you the best thanks.

Great video thanks. How it will be done with Canon 200d and 50mm STM lens

Thanks to this video and this guy, only here I could find information on focusing via cable!

Or you can get something like what I reviewed recently: th-cam.com/video/Uyt4y-ENClk/w-d-xo.html
That way you can use it on any rig you please. Hope this helps.

hey thank you so much for this tutorial. Is there a way to make the wheel react faster to focusing, it's super slow even at high

@@TLDR_filmmaker Thank you! Ironically the focus will work while recording when the camera is set to photography mode(M) and doesn't work during video mode...(Video camera M dial)

@@TLDR_filmmaker I'm using an original one and I updated the firmware and its still happening. I really appreciate your help tho! Thank you
Hmm... that is odd, I'm not sure what else it could be at the moment.
Hey! Thanks for great content! Do You know if this is working also with Lumix S5?
Hey hey Mateusz!

Hey hey again The MacDoctor!
You'll want to use the smartphone app and perform a full calibration, not the auto calibration. The Full calibration will make you place the gimbal in various positions.
good evening TLDR, I wanted to know if the weebill s focus also works with other canon lenses, thanks

Very nice video and nice narration. Just wondering for I use Nikon mount Sigma on GH5 will this work? Or have to be Canon mount?
Hey hey Hugh!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
Unfortunately the Nikon version will not work because there isn't really an Nikon to MFT adapter that handles the electronic data which is needed for the GH5 to understand what the lens is doing. While there have been a couple that have surfaced, I can't confirm if lens data is being transferred or is only part of the lens data like aperture transferred.

Thanks for the review. Please a quick question. Do you think the Dji rs3 can balance the Lumix gh5, viltrox adapter and sigma 18-35mm??
Hey hey Prince Nancy!

I believe it should because it has the larger cage setup. Similar to the Zhiyun you may want to add a Quick release place to make the camera side heavier for better balancing to clear the rear motor.

But after all, in this configuration, which is the best 2.2 or 2.8 aperture?
Hey hey Diego!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
You can use either or, this lens is very sharp, it all just depends on what your exposure and depth of field needs are for the shot. Since you're on a gimbal, 2.8 is probably the best choice as you're pulling focus.
Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
what would be the best gimbal you recommend for gh5 ,sigma 18-35 art and speedbooster metabones?
Hey hey again Pawel!
The newer Zhiyun cranes would probably be the better bet. The Weebill S is good for smaller setups even though its motors are quite strong. You'll want the slightly larger gimbals to handle the weight and balance point of a GH5 and Sigma 18-35 combination.
I'm having trouble getting the GH5 with the sigma balanced on the weebill-S. You said something about using a quick release adapter. Could you tell me which one this is? Or do you have any other solutions/tips?

Hi TLDR
Have you ever tried the Zhiyun Image Transfer system??? That also seems to be quite cool. I got a receiver and just ordering the transmitter unit, if it works how they promise it will also be kind of game changer...
hi there , can you please tell me if combo gh5 ,sigma art 18-35 , metabones speed booster and weebill s will work?
Hey hey Pawel!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
In theory it should work because the later versions of the metabones smart adaptors and boosters carry the electronic data of the lens through the GH5.

I know this is older but is the focus jittery at all? It seemed like the focus was very notchy with the example...
Good info. Have you done a vid on the GH5, Sigma 18-35 and the Weebill S Gimbal, or other compatible Gimbals?
Hey hey again The Corbett Music Group!
I have not done a specific review on that full setup yet or filmed a project with that setup yet. No projects I've been on have called for such a setup, especially with the way the team I'm on works. We'll see if I deploy it in 2021!
Understood...thanks!
Hey dude, thanks for the great video and information. 😊 👌
Right now I am using a viltrox adapter, do you recommend buying the viltrox speedbooster to use this feature or better go for the focus ring?

@@TLDR_filmmaker I FOUND A WORKAROUND:
Gimbal Settings: E-Focus.
CAMERA: Panason(ic)
Connect cable to GH5, but NOT the gimbal yet.
ADDENDUM: An easier solution to my problem:
Have all connections made, but turn the camera on FIRST.
Excellent thanks

Is there way of knowing if it will work with my GX8?
Hey hey Ivan!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
I do not personally know as I do not have a GX8 to test, I would check the camera compatibility list that I linked in the description to see if its listed. If it's not listed, then your best bet is to check online if the GX8 has the "USB Tether" feature where you can tether it to your computer and control the camera from the panasonic App. If it cannot accomplish this feature, then most likely the GX8 is not going to work.

Can you achieve the same result with Tokina 11-16/20? (with the same rig - GH5, Viltrox, Weebill-S)

Check your USB settings in the GH5 and also try different cables. If you are using a cable that didn't original come with the Weebill S, it most likely does not have the Data channels to communicate with the GH5. Unfortunately not all USB cables are built the same even though they all look the same.

How about the sony? It can use this trick with the same lense sigma 18-35?
Hey hey again Yuandrew!
No, my Sony A7Siii does not work. According to the camera list that I pinned to the top comment. It does not look like Sony cameras can utilize the E-focus on the Zhiyun. But some viewers brought to my attention that the DJI Ronin S and SC were able to.
Does this work on the canon. With the canon 24-70mm L.

Those are my thoughts on why it may not be working.

does the weebil s hold up with the weight of a gh5 / 80d and an 18-35mm sigma lense with the transmission kit's follow focus?
Hey hey Michael!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
You'll definitely want to use some more counterweights on the camera side if you are adding a transmission kit. Mainly because I was already using a QR mounting and plate to try and add enough weight to counter the Sigma. That being said it could be quite heavy of a setup.

Im not sure if investing in a camera with in body stabilisation instead would be smarter right now lol
So my Zhiyun Weebill LAB won't have this feature? Thanks 🙏

Aw mannnn! Hopefully you've replaced that lens with something that works for your needs?

Hey hey Filmgrade!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!

I later found out that you need to make sure your GH5 is set to MF mode on the dial near the eyepiece. So have the lens AF on and MF on the Gh5 before you turn on the camera, and that should do it. Hmm... the last thing I can think of is to see if you're on the latest firmware for the gimbal and GH5 and update them.
@@TLDR_filmmaker i do not get any prompt for the USB Tether when I turn on GH5.
Would this work with the Nikon version of Sigma 18-35 w/ vilotrox NF-M43 0.7 adapter?
Hey hey a56kuser!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
No, this will not work because the Viltrox NF-M43 boosted adaptor does not transmit any electronic signal to the GH5. Therefore the GH5 cannot communicate to your Sigma Lens to move the focus motor. There is a non-boosted version that has electrical contacts, but I do not know how well it really works in general. You would have to purchase and try it to see if it works.

I've only reviewed the PD MOVIE live air 2: th-cam.com/video/Uyt4y-ENClk/w-d-xo.html
The other popular one is called the Nucleus Nano N. The main difference is how each one is powered and weight difference. The Nucleus being the lightest but the most cumbersome to power as you have to wire it up. The PD movie is heavier, but has its own battery so you don't have wires messing with your gimbal setup.
Hope this helps!

@@TLDR_filmmaker Good evening,
Thank you so much for the useful information about follow focusing.

I haven't used this setup in awhile, really the only thing you need to do is make sure you put more weight to the camera side like I did with the quick release system. One thing I forgot to put in the video is that make sure you tell the gimbal to adhere to "Pana" camera and make sure your camera is set to MF instead of AF.
As I say with this setup, its not perfect, but decent enough for most focus pulls. If you are wanting to go from close up to infinity real quick, you will need a motor focus setup.
