I went from an Apple //c to an Atari 1040 STfm. It was like magic. I did a lot of work with my ST in college... wrote lab reports, papers, programs for class assignments, a bunch of programming for fun, etc. I would have *loved* to have had an STE... not to mention a Mega STE, TT 030, or a Falcon.
I hope to get a IIc one day but lack of room means I have to be more picky on what I get or store to rotate in my small office space. Had a IIgs for a bit but sold cheapily long ago. Wish I kept that one too.
@@MacSociety my first computer was an MC-10. Then I got gifted an Apple ][+ by a family friend who was upgrading the +s to IIe in their office. I had that a few months and then got a //c for Christmas. That served me for a couple years finishing out high school and my first two years of college. AppleWorks carried a load during those years. I wished I had a IIgs but couldn't justify the cost. But then the Atari ST came out and I got a 1040STfm right after they came out. After the ST for a couple years in college, I couldn't avoid getting a PC... we just had too many things that we had to use (PSPICE, etc.) that ran on x86. All our programming classes were on the x86 or Unix (which I used a bunch) but I eventually had to cave and get a 386-40 right after the 486s came out (the 386s got a lot cheaper).
I own an MC-10 now. lol. Fun little under-powered computer. Yeh I know the pain about leaving Atari but went Mac instead of PC but did work on PCs at work in the early 90s so went from DOS to Windows, etc... and then boom, the Internet landed in the 90s too.
Very cool. I have been thinking about exploring the Atari computer line more. I am curious to see more! Also.. I am looking forward to your video: Atari - Why Commodore is better! Ha!
I like Atari and Sinclair too. As for Atari I have an Atari 800 and an Atari 130XE, but used to have a 1040 ST (I just have some software from the ST now). Interesting you went straight for the Mega 2 ST, it's a nice looking setup with the separate keyboard and a good monitor. I bought a similar system after the 1040 ST but from a different company (the Acorn Archimedes). I had the Archimedes 310. Like you I sold and re-bought.
Great stuff, TJ. Loving that different camera angle, too. We only had the VCS from back in the day, but was all Commodore after that - with a minor diversion in between to a rebranded VTech computer. Australia was pretty much Commodore country in the 80's. But I do love all the old computers these days. And I love hearing about people's experiences with those machines. 😊

yes as kids we went under tables to group up and share things out of sight of parents. But my dad would always overhear for some reason, talk to mom and then I had it coming, because I did something silly again... Funny how that worked 😂
Traitor! Only joking. I love hearing about Atrai as a Spectrum user. Back in the day, in the UK I knew very little of Atrai other than the 2600. Nice one TJ!
I've never owned any Atari console or computer, a couple of mates had the 2600 (VCS) but I never got one despite asking for one every year between 77 and 81, my first computer was my humble 16K ZX Spectrum. But I absolutely love firing up the Stella 2600 emulator on PC just to play Space Invaders, Asteroids and Pac-Man as I did as a kid back then, there's something about playing those games on a 2600 that still sends shivers down my spine, and I love that. PS - looking forward to the launch of the Atari Society Facebook page for more shenanigans.
@@MacSociety How cool would it be to host a "retro" sleepover now, playing Atari and hand-helds all night long, only this time with beer and pretzels 😁
I have a working "light sixer" (5-12-81 on the paper inside) and a 2600 Jr. that could use some love. I also have a Starmaster cartridge that's acting funny.

Hi TJ!❤
I started a new job so; I'm late seeing your video.😄
That's a great idea of an Atari group. Please give an update, I will join.🥰
Enjoy your new job!
@@MacSociety Thanks TJ!
You may get more viewers from Germany. The ST has loyal fans there I read somewhere. Musicians too.
@@headcrab4090 yeh I was always jealous of some of the things coming out of Germany for the Atari in the day.
Did anyone check on the zombies? Casey’s bite might be more lethal than theirs.
I will make sure to stay few bodies away should I meet him face to face one day. ;-)

yeh, not sure why kids like to go under tables but guessing we all have that "fort" feel when we go under and into places like that.
Zombies 😂😂😂. Yeah I’m good just healing up. 4 more weeks off work.

Many of my friends had Atari while I had Odyssey 2. I remember having Friday Night Sleepover and we would play Space Invaders all night. Good Times!
