Burmese Lesson: How to say Must, Have to (Compulsory, Obligatory, Necessary Forms)

Intermediate Burmese lesson on expressing obligatory, compulsory, necessary actions. In English, you use auxiliary verbs like "must" or "have to." In Burmese, you may use the auxiliary verb ရ (ya), or a double negative structure, or a repeated verb to express these actions.

In a video can you talk about different Burmese dialects/accents because I’m originally from chin state and we speak chin and also Burmese but I noticed that our accent or dialect is a bit higher also my dad is from Rakhine stateand the accent Is so different we use arakanese dialect and I was wondering if it’s mutually intelligible with the other dialects like Yangon.

Hello! Ethnic nationalities like Arakanese, Chin, Karen, Wa, Shan, etc. speak Burmese with their own distinct accents. But the difference is not significant enough to prevent communication (just as speaking English with Irish, Scottish, Indian, or Singaporean accent won't prevent communication with other English speakers). But speaking Chin, Arakanese, or Shan language would be a different story. Most Burmese speakers won't understand these, unless they have lived there and studied these languages.

@@BurmeseLessons I searched more into it and it said that arakanese was a dialect of Burmese along with Yaw, Palaw, Beik/Myeik (Merguese), Dawei (Tavoyan), Intha, Danu, Rakhine (Arakanese) and Marma.

The difference between ပြေးဖို့လိုတယ် vs. ပြေးရမယ် / ပြေးကိုပြေးရမယ် / မပြေးလို့မရဘူး is almost the same as that between "I need to run" vs. "I must run/I've got to run/I cannot not run."
