Looks like a pretty sweet edc knife for the money. Would be interesting to know of that belt cutter would do better on nulon strapping. I was surprised it didnt cut 550. Good review!

Any chance that button slider could accidentally slide and close the blade while you're using it?

have the original SOG..i sharpened the blade so much, ..its now below the rope cutting opener, unable to cut rope now.....never leave home without it...probably do an up grade soon...and of course it will be with SOG. great presentation .

I’d like to see the cord cut test with the blade closed lock engaged. It could be the pressure of the material is pushing the blade back which would reduce the cutting force. I have the standard SOG Trident with serrated clip point. Loving it, so far, for all the reasons you just mentioned in your excellent video review of the Elite model. I’m adding the Elite model to my collection, as well. Cheers!

I just use my fingertip on the clip and it pops out with great speed. Great video.

Thanks for your vid. I've purchased two Trident Elites in the last two weeks. The first would not open reliably using the thumb stud, and the second has a safety that falls back and forth of its own weight depending on whether you hold the knife spine up or blade up. IMHO, if you're thinking of buying one of these knives, buy it from a brick and mortar store so you can make sure it functions as it's supposed to. I'm going to have to send back a second Trident Elite now.

Just picked up the partially serrated version for under $54.. pretty solid knife for the price point.. cuts very well..

I've got the original Trident, still an incredible knife. The only complaint I ever had is with the durability of the polymer handle. After a few years of ownership, I once had to send it back because the spine of the knife, where the thumb studs contact upon full opening, became cracked. I sent it back and SOG replaced the handle for free, but with the same material, so I'm fully expecting it to crack there again some day. It looks like the handle of the Elite may experience the same thing someday, I don't see any additional reinforcing around the spine where the blade makes contact on opening.
I miss my SOG Flash II, which had a full steel frame, but that knife was given to a friend on his birthday, aaand, he lost it.

I would prefer a belt clip but then again I've never had a knife with a pocket clip. I like how it looks.

Hi, great info. Thank you! I had not idea how to open this knife until I saw your video. What are the serrated blade good for? I actually have the SOG Elite with a serrated edge on the bottom and top.

i’ve used my serrated edge on cutting a bit of bone on deer when i’m cleaning them, works good on stuff that you’d use a saw on

Love your videos Brotha, but I don't care much for SOG, would much rather go with a spyderco or benchmade. You actually turned me on to the spyderco. First one was the tentatious

J.J., I have to agree S.OGRE. does an excellent job tempering and their cryo treatment, I'm not big on AUS8, but my Trident 2.0, and my Seal Pup Elite, do hold their edges, S.O.G. does make some good knives.

Do you think that the TiNi coating would be worth it or should I just go for the satin finish

The rescue feature trend doesn't bother me too much in general, however, it should work. Bad on SOG for not making this function well. Thanks for the review

I agree that the average buyer doesn't need the seat belt cutter and glass breaker, but it comes in handy for first responders.

Has anyone tried disassembling their Trident Elite's. How difficult is it with those 2 metal bands wrapped around the scales?

  • @supertekkel1
    @supertekkel1 10 ปีที่แล้ว

Nice review, thank you! I own the original Trident, and the reason i do not EDC it any more is that over time grit and dirt will get in pivot point making closing and opening difficult.
I hope this model is better at keeping dirt out of the internal mechanics ?

That will happen to any good knife that doesn't have excessive play in the action (up down side to side wiggle when "locked" open). This is why you should get familiar enough with your knife to tear it down and clean it.

It's like the old rambo knife in a nice folder . Check it out .

Can be used to cut rope in a public area, (have to carry a small wenger knife for this so as not to scare people) but yeah, for 99% of time it's just marketing

Glad I saw this review before I bought this thing. That seat belt cutter looked kinda lame, now I know it looks lame 'cause it actually *is* lame. The glass breaker is okay but I'm not sure if it's tungsten or just steel, I already have a tungsten one on my Böker tactical pen, and who needs a glass breaker anyway? So that leaves the blade, which is okay and a good size but that recurve makes it nigh on fuckin impossible to sharpen with a flat stone. So yeah, glad I didn't buy this knife. And now to keep shopping ....
