    Scend loses stage control too quickly, PSI Magnet is good for situational setups but spamming it makes your air movement too predictable, also missed too much PK Flashes making him extremely open for attacks. He was being kind of greedy, at the last stock of the first game, and at the first combo in the last game when he tried to go for a third forward air (which is DIable), then he lost the neutral an got pressured by the ledge.
    Still, his mobility is good, his combos are creative and he makes a ton of damage, but sometimes you have to think in the safest options, even if you feel you can land something.

      It's a reasonable thing to do because it's probably more strategical. Leo has you very far offstage, he may have taken your jump (I didn't see a double jump attempt but it's possible scend lost his jump) and he still has 3 stocks and will set up a ledgeguard/edgeguard situation. There's merit to just ending that game early and starting the next one with a fresh 3 stocks rather than playing out the disadvantage state and losing anyways. Even though you drop the game, you're going to be less exhausted and probably in a better mental state if you go out on your own terms in comparison to playing it out, so you have a better chance of winning the next one.

      I dont think he had a double jump.
      I agree you should play the match to the end, get as much practice and knowledge of your opponent's gameplay as you possibly can. However, this just doesnt apply against Leo. Even if Scend could've made it to ledge, he 100% knows Leo will adapt even even further to him than the other way around. This is why Leo reverses 3-0 his opponents whenever he is down 2-0. So, if the game is pretty much lost against Leo, is respectable to make the strategic desicion to end it, unless you believe you'll get more adaptative than Leo, which is unlikely, to say the least.

      @KevSB07 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel like it isn’t impossible for him. It’s difficult, don’t get me wrong but it’s not as one-sided as other swordies. Byleth has to get close to you to hit you with nair, and all of your aerials can beat out nair’s hitbox. And I’m not a ness player, but I wonder if Ness’s size and mobility combined with Byleth’s narrower hitboxes makes it any easier to get in compared to swordies like Cloud or Shulk with larger, sweeping hitboxes with less lag

    • @BryGuyJohn
      @BryGuyJohn ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@KevSB07 there’s no such thing as an impossible matchup in this game. It’s very difficult though. I’m not sure if you’ve ever played this matchup, but Ness’ aerials absolutely do not beat out Byleth’s nair, so he’s very hard to contest when he’s approaching. Ness also isn’t actually particularly fast in the air, so drifting in is also pretty tough and Ness doesn’t have great shield pressure without those aerials.
      Up+B also makes Byleth super tough to edge guard and lets Byleth commit super hard to edge guarding Ness which is almost always our worst fear.
      The ONLY thing that makes this somewhat bearable is that Byleth isn’t as blindingly fast as like a Lucina or Roy. It’s still pretty bad though. A really good Byleth shouldn’t lose to a Ness.

    • @KevSB07
      @KevSB07 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BryGuyJohn i don’t have the necessary Ness experience to say for sure, but Byleth nair has a very meager hitbox, and ness’s aerials are absolutely disjointed by comparison (not comparison to his sword or lance, just the nair). In my experience, Byleth nair is extremely inconsistent both on hit and defensively, so I assumed Ness should be able to stuff it.
      Everything else sounds about right though

    • @DirtyDan12
      @DirtyDan12 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@KevSB07 I main Ness and fight against byleth the same byleth every day. Go check out the hitbox visualizations, they are not nearly as disjointed as you think. Byleths nair covers almost everything that is usually seen as an advantage for Ness. Ness' fair has only 2 frames advantage vs Byleths nair, so the timing needs to be super precise and spaced perfectly, otherwise you get Up-B'd and eat a solid 30-40%. The matchup is terrible because Ness doesn't have any safe options while Byleth has all safe options.
      Even in Ness' advantage state (Byleth being juggled) Byleths nair will trade with Ness' up-air, so you can't chase that unless they're in hit stun. Byleths Nair (fair and up air too) will also clank with PK thunder sometimes which flips the advantage state immediately in byleths favor and you're open to be punished. When Byleths off stage which is usually when Ness has a great advantage, not against Byleth though, gimping him with the tail is possible but good Byleths play around that easily and that's all you get. The truth is, Ness' advantage state is trash against Byleth and loses neutral, while Byleths advantage state against Ness is hard to break though because of how much ground he can cover.
