@Kalinga_3 No victory of Light over darkness or Good over evil is Dusshera/Vijaydashmi . It's was celebrated because Because lord returned to Ayodhya after 14 year of exile and whole kingdom of Ayodhya celebrated it by lightning diya because that day was total eclipse.
It is a south asian festival in general. Because lots of Hindus, Buddhists and Sikhs live in Nepal,Sri Lanka also. But India is mostly reffered coz most of ppl from this faith live in India only
@MohitKumar-nj8ms It is a Hindu festival. You can say Indian festival too because Hindus are of Indian descent no matter where in the world they live. "South Asia" is a term preferred by Pakistanis and Bangladeshis so that they can pass for Indians and not have to mention the name of their real country.
South Asian? Stop dismissing the Hindu roots of our festivals. The moment Hindu festivals become cool to them they start distortion the facts present it as a cultural. DIWALI IS A HINDU FESTIVAL.
No it's SOUTH ASIANS! It's not just Indian Hindus who celebrate it, Nepalese and Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi, Pakistani and Bhutanese Hindus celebrate it too. So saying "South Asians celebrate it" is NOT wrong and incomparable to Indian Christians celebrating Christmas.
@ I never said it is an Indian holiday. All the countries you mentioned have Hindus and only they celebrate Diwali. Never seen a Muslim making a rangoli in Pakistan to celebrate Diwali. So it is a Hindu Festival not a South Asian festival.

Good Morning America- not very clear what you're saying- that Diwali is a South Asian Community festival or you're just focussing on how they celebrate it in the south?
Diwali is celebrated because Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after exile of 14 . This is the core reason for celebrating it.
It's just the underlying event
But it symbolises light over darkness.

Stop saying South Asians. It's just India 🙄
Correct your knowledge...... It's celebrated all across south Asian regions where Hindus and their cultural identity exist......
@thewolf7687 with that logic Christmas and Hanukkah are indian festivals considering there are Indians of that background who celebrate them 🙄
@@thewolf0111 Hindus "exist" in Europe, Africa, North America, South America, and Southeast Asia too. Why stop at South Asia?

Saying Diwali is a 'south asian' festival is like saying 4th of July is a North American holiday.
