i will be 100% honest. i have never been a fan of jose mourinho. what he said in that press conference is correct. the players weren’t booed coming off the pitch because they gave it their all. that was the best performance i’ve seen in United in a long time. just like jose said, they lost last season against sevilla at home and were booed because they didn’t play well. yes some players need to step it up and yes mourinho needs to figure things but if united play like this against any other team, i have a good feeling about this season. Tottenham has strong attacking players and great defense and they are probably good enough to win the title this season. What separates the elite managers like Pep and Klopp is their ability to get the best out of their players, something Mourinho simply cannot do. He rather wants to mould them to fit his conservative philosophy which inhibits their attacking abilities. This is why Martial, Rashford and even lukaku look bang average at the moment.

When Pogba roams free and has movement around him he is great. Fred looks the same and also looks really sharp. A trusted defence is always good for the midfield. It allows freedom to create rather than be cautious of the counter. A right sided player with Sanchez on the left gives Lukaku the service. Fred would overlap Pogba. Just like any other big club, the whole team needs a few world class players running like clockwork and you won't see the full potential of any signing unless the whole team doesn't have a missing link. My point is that one world class player doesn't cut it on his own. I'd take 11 decent players that are gelled together rather than 3 superstars that don't fit in
You're right. Mourinho located two problem areas this summer --- the right wing and central defense. Those have indeed been the weakest areas since then, so he was right. Since nobody likes to play right wing, the attack gets congested in the centre and is more easily countered as a result. The defense isn't so much lacking skill but rather leadership and consistency. Both Lindelöf and Bailly are still young and neither is yet a natural leader. If either Maguire or Alderweireld had joined, they would have brought that necessary consistency, I'm sure. Since Mourinho is forced to make do with what he has, he can only paste over the cracks with tactical stability, which is a lot more challenging than it ought to have been. And the attackers need to be more clinical. They should have won the game at half time already.

Either you must be a big Mourinho supporter or just not have seen the game if you think United played well and created many chances. Lukaku missed an open goal only because Rose passed it to him (unless you want to argue that it was thanks to high pressure and thus it was part of the tactical plan) and another shot from him was magnificently saved by Lloris, Lingard had two decent chances as well and that was it. United, playing at home had 4 alright chances. If you're satisfied with that then good for you but then at least admit you're not a side battling for the Premier League title.

My point is that one world class player doesn't cut it on his own. I'd take 11 decent players that are gelled together rather than 3 superstars that don't fit in

You're right. Mourinho located two problem areas this summer --- the right wing and central defense. Those have indeed been the weakest areas since then, so he was right. Since nobody likes to play right wing, the attack gets congested in the centre and is more easily countered as a result. The defense isn't so much lacking skill but rather leadership and consistency. Both Lindelöf and Bailly are still young and neither is yet a natural leader. If either Maguire or Alderweireld had joined, they would have brought that necessary consistency, I'm sure.
Since Mourinho is forced to make do with what he has, he can only paste over the cracks with tactical stability, which is a lot more challenging than it ought to have been. And the attackers need to be more clinical. They should have won the game at half time already.

Lukaku missed an open goal only because Rose passed it to him (unless you want to argue that it was thanks to high pressure and thus it was part of the tactical plan) and another shot from him was magnificently saved by Lloris, Lingard had two decent chances as well and that was it.
