For those that think an 18 week academy is short, know that the training doesn’t end there. Recruits go from an INTENSE academy to 3 “rotations” at different stations to finish off the year-long probation. Each station trains and evaluates them on various skills, their ability, their knowledge, their attitude, etc. They learn hands on with a variety of “instructors”, which greatly expands their firefighting IQ overall.

I hear from veteran firefighters that there is ALWAYS something to learn, even after the probationary period

1st day on the job and out the academy and they hitch a Capt to you and follow you around with a camera...sounds fun

Recently joined the Fire Explorers for this department and gotta say I love the instructors and drills we’ve gotten to do, and I’m excited for the first day I get to have for this department when I finish the academy in the future.

You know when I was younger my Uncle Dave use to work on all firetrucks with in United States. He would travel alot and was always recommended cause his work was A+. I was always curious and fascinated on the inside of the trucks. So while he was working on them I would be inside the trucks turning on the sirens, honking the horn, few of the firefighters would see me and be like
Hey Bud When are You Gonna Join The Crew.. Always wanted to be apart of a 2nd family who saved people and the community. I was never able to join the military cause of my up bringing and this was my first choice. So becoming Firefighter was the next best thing in heart. But this will always be a memory to me definitely. May even consider joining the crew one day believe it or not.
    💪👨‍🚒 God Bless

Make the window a door !! If your gonna go in then you need to get out !! I know it’s different here in NYC but you never want to escape a room with a 1/4 open window nor does the 10-45...All respect to the brothers ..everyone is different and our goals are the same.

    • @okcfd

No need to do that kind of destruction to a home on a welfare check. The Police Department only needed us to gain entry for them. This was not a fire call. The crews did a great job entering through a window and then opening the door from the inside. Thanks for the comment, however.
