Working on the Motor, Pulleys and Guard for Our HEAVY DUTY Tool Post Grinder! | Part 3
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 26 ก.ย. 2024
- Get ready for another exciting instalment of our DIY tool post grinder build! In this episode, we dive into the motor mounting process, using our milling machine to drill and tap the base for a secure fit. We also machine up a custom spacer to ensure a snug mount on the lathe's top slide. Then watch as we craft the pulley system, complete with precision reaming and broaching of keyways, setting the stage for efficient power transmission. To ensure safety, we also fabricate a protective guard from sheet metal and securely bolt it in place. With the motor mounted and the pulley system complete, our tool post grinder is taking shape. In the next episode we'll tackle the VFD connection and conduct our first test run. Stay tuned to see this project come to life!
In this video we are using:

Same here, I start my Fridays with a cup of coffee in front of the TV refreshing my feed until the video appears!
Yeah, I have been watching some old video's insted.
Hope you had a good holiday nice to see you back
Yeay it's friday again. Greetings from a rainy Demnark...
Raining here in Atlanta Georgia (USA) also! Hurricane/Tropical storm "Helene" passing through right now. A good bit of flooding going on (Glad I'm on high ground)!
@PhilG999 mate its like 9c here in England raining and cold tropical weather is one thing me and krist know nothing about lol
From Canada at 2am
4:00am NewYork. So far so great. Can’t wait to see some grinding happening.😊
Cee has the best comments I have ever seen on TH-cam no trolly no hating nothing but nice people saying nice things enjoying what we watch you all give me a little hope in humanity
We've got the best community on TH-cam!
Those split screen shots are amazing! I can really see all the moves more clearly. Thanks guys. 👍🙂
That’s because it’s a legend of a channel ! All three of you guys are amazing folks . Of course I said three because Homey is the real star of the show 😂 . We love you guys !!! ❤
Because we all in bloody awe of both the artisan craftsman and the content pixie ;)
The haters are always around there's just nothing to hate on!
I had withdrawal symptoms from having no CEE video to watch last week. Lol. Greetings from South West Wales, UK. 🏴 🇬🇧
Good to see you back, missed out last week. Looking forward to watching this one.
holiday? or more important things?
Smile Kurtis , the new chopper’s are magnificent 👍
Love the split screen Karen, Keep up the great work. Friday's would not be the same without you guy's.
Mmm Even suprises Karen sometimes .Yes he is very clever
Friday is back to normal. I was worried.
Hey Kurtis! Would you mind telling me how you keep the ways of yor machines rust free? Is there something you've discovered to work best over the years? Cheers
Hey mate best thing is regular cleaning and applying rust preventative. I use either WD40 or Inox lanolin.
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering thanks a lot! I've found WD-40 to not be tacky enough to stay on the ways for longer than a few weeks at a time 😔. Might just try that second option! Thanks a ton!
I think I must be in my second childhood, it is like being back in the eighties again when we only had 3 tv channesl in the UK and rushing home from school to watch your favourite progarmme 🙂 I had a sense of disapointment last week that I havent experienced for 40 years when there was no CEE show
Farmcraft101 can stop welding! ;)
Hell yes we missed you. Glad you're back to brighten up our week!
Alan
You guys are getting big, I mean your channel is getting big, geez always your dirty minds people, was just a second and have 23 comments already, hope you both got to visit family and have gotten the rest you need, I know that doesn’t always happen when you get time away from work
Continued Success
Fabrizio
Awesome as Always Yes We Missed you Great Content Great Vid
I was not aware you could do broaching in a lathe. I've always seen it done in a press.
Good morning from East Sussex in the UK. 👍
Hooray! Perfectly timed as I have to wait for my shop to warm up! -3 today outside here in Norway! 🥶
That drill chuck has seen better days ! LOLOL 🤣😂
Always a joy to watch your videos Kurt, I got up extra early to catch this one and watch it as it came out! keep these coming I love the outtakes you have and I bet the other half gets a real giggle out of them too, would be hilarious if you got one of her in the outtakes of you flipping the camera on her one time haha! keep up the awesome work man :)
How you guys had a good break, great to see you back!
Gotta love Trefolex...been using it for 50 years...👍
Me as well.
At last your back. Listen, what happened while you were away was I did'nt get as lonely as I thought but I was substantially less entertained....welcome home guys....
Love these videos. Always interesting how you can build this machinery and make it look so good . Way better than the store bought stuff.
Goooooooooooooooood morning Aussies
I missed you guys last week 😪 almost cold turkey 🤣🤣
Hope to see you next week.
Have a great weekend and a nice bellyrub for Homey
Greetings from The Netherlands
There they are, now i can finally relax and watch some skilled work
hello from Finland 👋😊 nice work and good video 👍
Yee ha
Friday arvo with CEE
Time difference between Ormeau and Coomera Waters is a killer but managed to stay awake to watch it 😂🍺
😂👌 how goods that
Yes, I missed your weekly video last week. Love the split screen vision Karen. Well done. That's next level stuff.
I really like how you made the guard for the belts, very simple yet effective way to make the curved parts. 100% will steal the design in the future.
Also how ridiculous does that 300-400A MIG gun look welding 1.5mm sheet steel lol
We have a saying in Blighty, All the gear, no idea? Your the polar opposite all the gear and every idea, another excellent bit of kit in your extensive arsenal 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Hope you had a nice break 👍
Best thing about working nights in Canada is being awake at 4am to watch CEE as soon as it comes out. God bless y’all and thanks.
It gets released 8am UK time.. My alarm is set for 7:50am on Fridays... :D
@@ColinRichardson great way to start the day eh
Homies' bed looks broken in pretty good like a favorite chair 😄 29:09

@22:33 Stunning!
At 34.35, that suspiciously short-handled tap wrench is finally explained....
Nice job mate. Hope it will grind your tool correctly.... 😂😂😂
Hopefully 🙏 it’s the crane 🏗 rebuild soon?? 🤘👊✌️🤙👍🤟🖖🇬🇧🏴🫶
CEE didn't post video last week
my anxious brain:
Are they okay? Were they harmed?
Greetings from Hungary btw!

Good morning from California's beautiful wine country.😃😃😃
As Homey retreated inside from the rain, he seemed to be trying to describe how the sky was falling! Love that doggo! All those expensive and specialized machines and he's still your most prized belonging..... As it should be! Besides your precious Mrs. that is.
Looks awesome. A couple of comments. I think the pulley ratio should be okay. Assuming an approximate 1450rpm no load speed, through a 1:3 pulley ratio, gives you a pretty solid 4000rpm once the pulley load is accounted for. That's well above most bench and surface grinders. With a decent vfd you should be able to easily get that upto 12,000rpm which is into angle grinder territory. Secondly, v-belts should be fine. Timing belts are really only necessary when you need absolute translation from input to output, but for this application it doesn't really matter if a belt slips, and in fact that might even be preferable under some circumstances. I've no doubt if you open the mill, lathe, or any other machine tool, that v-belts are used to transfer power from the motor to the spindle, so it's not like we're in unfamiliar territory. If anything, I'd maybe switch to three slightly smaller belts instead of the two thicker ones, but that's about it. Just my 2p
Hope you all had a great week. And I’m glad your back. 🤙👊✌️👍🖖🤟🏴🇬🇧
Hope you had some good time off. I always love watching Curtis do some shop made lathe work, he's like a lathe wizard!!!
Cool - I have learned my profession as a mechanic at the Getriebebau NORD GmbH & Co. KG located in Northern Germany long time ago. I was always wondering, where these products are gone to. Nice to see that they made it down to Australia. Even much better that they will do their duty now in one of my favourite YOU TUBE locations. Greetings to down under. 🙂
Thats a big motor & grinding wheel, extended bar looks super. No bumping the crossfeed handle but everthing will be locked off. Dont have to bother with a talle ho paper!
0:26 wasted sponsorship opportunity with a certain VPN provider 😂
Every time I watch one of your videos it's like a dose of vitamins. Invigorating and really inspiring!
I completely forgot you guys were posting today love the videos it’s amazing to have you guys back
Hi Kurtis, Karen, not fond of Vee belts for low vibration transmission but your onto it using timing belt in the future.
Wheel guard is mandatory especially using a VFD, where there is a possibility of overspeed for the grinding wheel.
Robust design but not sure about the length of the spindle for internal grinding, you must have some deep hole grinding in mind.
Absolutely true, such a joy to share a kind space and watch a great craftsman do great work
Aye ye was missed. Greetings fea sunny (this morn) Scotland. Take care & stay safe.
Not bad for a rookie, thank goodness Karen’s awesome editing makes you look so good Kurtis…..just kidding, great job
Oh I don't see them as the same tool, MY MISTAKE🤪 .. thanks for the reply.. 😁
Hey Guys, missed ya last week. Hope the time away was totally beneficial. Glad you got a break, you certainly earned it!! Looking forward to this episode. Cheers!
Very nice - going to be fantastic when completed 👍👍
Any thoughts on grinding wheel balancing (need for it / how to do it)?
All the best,
Paul
It’s been a long two weeks break but it was worth the wait. Hope you enjoyed the break also? Keep up the great work that you both do.😊 Ready for next week. John 😊😊
Hate simply hate V-belt. But been there before sometimes your left no choice. I have a funny feeling you’ll be switching it.
As a mechanical engineer with 40 years design experience, using the small pulley to hold in the bearings is not good. A retaining circlip on the shaft is normal practice and much safer. As you have it, when the pulley comes loose, and it will, things will get very hairy!
Coffee and the virtual smell of lubrication agent. Best start of the day here in the Netherlands.
That was a sneaky footage cut 13:57. The key way cutter got considerably shorter 😂
Fantastic mate and thanks a milllion for showing the Broaching id heard a lot about it but never seen it being performed
I hope that you had a great holiday, and thank you for the bedtime story across the pond. Have a great weekend you two🤙
Whew... it was a rough end to last week without my CEE fix!!!
Useful tool - when you needs it. Greets from soggy, grey windy Ireland .
Yes it was strange no CEE video last Friday. Glad you are back.
another perfect Friday morning with a new CEE Video
8:58 ouch, that is a huge boring bar for that little pulley😂😂😂
I so do enjoy the videos and of course the star dog/People with tail, so as usual, real neat system. I was stuck on the handle and so ya got me on that one!
