Please, please bring us the next part. We are all dying to know how got on with the rest of the build. Especially how to support the weight on the arm and drum. Thanks for the effort you put into making this video
Very cool. I'd like to see more about how you did the tracking for the wide belt. I have one of the old Delta open sided sanders. I am having trouble with the tracking. I think I also might need to make a new belt doing something similar to what you have done. Thanks for posting your video....
Hi Jim, The tracking is more or less the same as the 'stumpy nubs' drum sander or even the real jet drumsanders. I glued blocks on both sides of the belt assembly and inserted a piece of threaded rod with washers and 2 nuts. Tension is put on the belt by twisting the nuts away from eachother and tracking done by changing the tension on both sides. The belt is just 3 sanding belts put together. I spray glued a piece of cloth on the back to make it 1 big belt. Thanks for watching! Robin
We need more information man probably the best design I’ve seen yet doubled the capacity by leaving that side open any chance you could go a little more in depth please?
I was thinking about drawing this thing up in sketchup, if I ever do you'll find the drawings here. At this point I still have some thinking and refining to do before we get there. Thanks for watching!
Hi Robin, i like the project and find it super useful thank you, by the way my shop is almost similar as yours lol i though you was filming in my shop 😂 keep up the good work 👍👌
Did you put sandpaper around the upper roller? I saw a plastic tube and then you were using it and I must have missed it. was it glued on to the roller or fit somehow?
Yes! Cut little slits at both ends of the tube through which I put the tips of the sandpaper, this seems to lock it in pretty good. On a different roll I also used a little bit of spray glue. I forgot to record some parts. I'm in the process of a short follow-up video, but it's pretty busy so that may take a while. Thanks for watching!
I believe iet's a 1hp motor, but i'll have to take a look to be sure. It seems to be sufficient, it does not struggle (or it hasn't yet). I bought a small motor for the conveyorbelt but that one is very underpowered.. so the follow-up video will take a bit longer tot come out. Thanks for watching!
A 1 hp motor is easier/less expensive to come by which is why I find this style of drum sander more user friendly in terms of diy project, given the smaller footprint size yet offering the ability to do panels twice as large. I know times are busy, but I’m anxiously awaiting part two in the video series and any plans that may be made available. A machine like this opens up the world of burl woods I’m really looking forward to using!!!
I nearly finished drawing the machine in sketchup. Now I still have to write out the plans. It's coming, but it's also quite slow going, sorry for that.
Very well thought out looking great awaiting to see part two and maybe some plans.

Velmi důmyslné jednoduché a šikovné. Moc se mi to zamlouvá. Děkuji 👍😊
Welcome back Robin! 😀 smart to make your own drum sander!
Hello Robin, this open ended project is exactly what I am looking for, can you get some plans? I would definitely love to buy one. Great job

Beautiful!
I would appreciate if you can share the link, where I can buy the belt sandpaper, or the description of it
Do you have plans for you sander?
what about Part 2... did the project make it?
Any issues with the drum portion flexing?
this design seems risky IMO. lots of work and high risk that drum starts sagging.
We need more information man probably the best design I’ve seen yet doubled the capacity by leaving that side open any chance you could go a little more in depth please?
Will you be making plans for this? I would definitely be interested in picking them up

Any updates to this project? I am also highly interested in plans.
Hi I'm working on the drawings and also trying some improvements. But it's pretty busy, so it will take a little while.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome good to hear. Keep me updated when you get them. I'll still be a buyer

Fabulous sir....
Thanks!
@@RobinCoomans welcome
Nice can you sale it ?. Please let me know .
What is the motor size and speed? Is it 1725 rpm ?
What size motor (hp) did you use and do you feel it’s sufficient for the size of this drum sander?
