Hard times creates hard men. We are fortunate now that we had such brave, courageous and hard men in 1920.
Forever in your debt, Tom Barry and your volunteers. JB

They said I was ruthless, daring, savage, blood thirsty, even heartless. The clergy called me and my comrades murderers; but the British were met with their own weapons. They had gone in the mire to destroy us and our nation and down after them we had to go.

If you are from Co Kerry you might like to know that Tom Barry unveiled the monument in the town park of Tralee(known locally as "The Green" I think) to a young man named Hawley killed there by Black & Tans. There is a housing estate called "Hawley's Park" in Tralee named after him.

Some things never change on Irish roads, the speeding reckless and selfish drivers were around even in the 1960s. Like today he had no fear of the Gardai because he knew then as now they were a lazy, dysfunctional police force.
