  • Seems a common issue with this model of motorcycle. In this video, I reset the Valve Clearance from .10mm for the intake to.15mm and the exhaust from .12mm to.19mm I will do the carburetor jets in Part 2.

    I've had 2 XBRs with the same problem. Solved both with a 4 electrode sparkplug. Brilliant!

      Has anyone been able to verify what Mick says?

    I run 12 on my inlet and 16 on the exhaust on my XBR special, never had the idle stall with those settings, The original settings were too tight and I recon the manufacturers updated settings were far too loose

      I suppose first they were 10 inlet and 12 exhaust which is too tight? and then they updated it to 15 inlet and 19 exhaust and thats too loose?

    Sounds more like camchain noise?

    Brad, hi. I've been waiting over a month for a fuel tap kit and a carb kit. So I haven't had the use of the bike all that time. Not been able to proceed.
    After encountering the stalling issue I feel it prudent to follow your example.
    Question: where did you source your replacement jets....I'm hitting a brick wall!
    Study reveals removing/replacing the carb is a nightmare; any tips?

      I bought mine from Carbpartuk on ebay don't think they are listing anymore . I would ask on forums there is one on Facebook. If you have the money I have seen people talk about fitting a Mikuni TM 40 flatslide carb which gives better performance and the engine runs better but a lot of $$$. Getting the carb out was a real pain from memory you had to get it half out the twist it before it would come out. If you check previous comments some have had other solutions try them first before removing the carb each bike is different with 30 years of use on them

      @@bradwalton7599 Thanks, Brad. I finally got the Keyster KH-168N kit delivered from Japan, which includes the 58 main and 52 slow jets. As for the Mikuni, for normal road use I don't see much point. The £350+ will buy a lot of petrololol!

      Try Dave Silver spares for the carb kit

    Hi there, nice video, I just bought the same bike that I think have the same issue. Do you still have the bike? Where can I get a service manual?

    • @taladrotalisman9118
      @taladrotalisman9118 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just downloaded the manual from the web for free, so never mind about that. Just one more question, did you solve the noisy engine problem just changing the jets?

    • @bradwalton7599
      @bradwalton7599  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I closed the valve clearance up a bit to quiet them down. Try the bigger pilot jet and leave the main jet as is was best for me some people said 4 electrode spark plug worked for them try that first.
