I don’t think Bateman is pure evil, if that were true he wouldn’t have started feeling guilty and try to turn himself in at the end of the movie. And to be honest we’re not even 100% sure if he really killed or if it was all in his head, he’s mentally insane not evil.
Not debating, just saying that Eric Nelson (John Carver) had probably got it worse. He had an affair with the manager's wife, and the wife was pregnant with HIS kid, then the wife died, yada-yada, then he probably lost his mind, started killing. And for Roman, he was abandoned by his own mom, who didn't want to even think he existed in the first place, she just thought he was a mistake, Roman was shut away, left to die. And he influenced Billy Loomis and Stu Macher to start Scream 1. He did it all to get back at Sidney for actually having a caring family.
Carrie is not even a villain in my opinion. The more you think about it, the more you will realize that everything she did was justified. I mean, she was abused by her mother ever since she was born, nearly all of her schoolmates, neighbors and even teachers bullied her for no reason, and even the few people that didn’t treat her that bad never really liked her and only treated her good out of pity. Even Miss Desjardin secretly laughed at her at prom (or at least in the book), and when she was finally happy for the first time in her life, she had to realize that it all was just faked by everyone so that her life would become miserable once and for all. But the worst of all: her own mother literally tried to kill her multiple times, and she (literally) backstabbed her when she just needed to feel love and comfort from her mother for one moment. In fact, Carrie probably didn’t even know what being loved means because her whole life long, she felt nothing more than just pure hatred from everybody, so how would you expect a person who went through hell like her to react if that person can’t take this anymore? If they didn’t humiliate her her whole life long and ever since she could think, she would’ve never done this, and everybody could be happy. That’s why I will always adore Carrie despite everything, because she had every right to end them all after they ended her her whole life long. I really wish that bullying wouldn’t even exist, no one deserves this at all 😢
