Udim B. Gurung Only the uneducated call it that. Bon is referred to using Bon or Bonpo; not Bonism. Practitioners of Bon are referred to as Bonpo and when speaking of the rituals, teachings, practices, etc it is Bon or Bonpo, both are acceptable. Bonism is a term made up by westerners who do not practice, understand, or respect the terms used for Bon. Christianity does not become 'Christianism' nor does Islam become 'Islamism' just because you want it to. By the same virtue, Bonism is not a correct term. I am saying this as a Bonpo. Thank you.

Udim B. Gurung That is correct. Though it could be argued that it originally came from Olmo Lung Ring from Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche. He is the one who brought Bon to Zhang Zhung which is part of Western Tibet and other parts of the Western Himalayas. It came to the rest of Tibet from Zhang Zhung and is at least 18,000 years old. (That is the most conservative estimate, there are other estimates that place it much older.) And with much of the archaeological evidence of monuments created long before the last Ice Age on earth (which only ended about 12000 years ago) this is not as far fetched as some in the west would like to say. If you want I can tell you the names of some books that would give you some really interesting information and history of zhang zhung and Bon.
