    I once owned in 1964, a 1959 Impala with the 348, 335 horse engine. It certainly was not a 409, but I'll say this, that 348 held it's own in the day. Some of the early muscle cars I was beaten by, but some were really surprised by that 348 engine. If I only could go back in time, to just hang on to that Impala to today, man I really loved that car.

    That engine would be right at home in a 59 Elco

    I'm surprised that there are any performance parts for a 348....

    I had a 348 built 35 years ago by TK Performance , that’s the guys that smashed the E/SA record in 1971 by half a second !!!! So I knew them and gave TK my 348 to build . I was thinking 400-425 HP , all internals were top quality , no expense spared , but in the dyno we could barely get 350 HP . This in a 61 Biscayne with a BW 4 Speed and P-Code 456 posi. If I didn’t break an axle or tear up the driveshaft center support bearing , I could run 14.20 . Very disappointing , that stroker motor is wild but can you get 425 hp out of a 348 and still keep it somewhat streetable ? Or do you have to totally re-design everything and spend 40,000 I just finished building a 292 Chevy in-line six put a lot of work into this and a lot of custom parts again no expense spared an engine made 383 hp more than my 348 so what did TK do wrong that we only got 350 hp in the 348 with 11 ohone pistons custom ground camshaft, solid lifters balanced the crank was all worked up knife , two brand new four barrels and the engine just would not make the type of power that I was looking for.

    I wonder what the bore and stroke on this engine.

      The bore and stroke on a stock one is 4.125 bore and 3.250 stroke. I would think the stroke on this one is somewhere around 4 inches. It's just a guess since I didn't do all the work to figure it out.

      They said it was bored 0.30. With a 0.30 you can figure 4 to 6 cubic inches

      Bore = 4.155" Stroke = 4.000"

    Must've had something wrong with valves to change to stainless

      Common practice to run SS valves now days. They make them for all kinds of engines. I don't even use hardened seats just run the SS valves. Holds up just fine.
