  • This was the original Axial Wraith, it started as a 2.2 'Rock Racer', but I always knew I wanted to crawl with it. It reminded me of the huge solid axle rigs we would see up in the mountains when riding RZR or ATV. They would be the ones slow crawling the boulders that the rest of us just dream about crawling.
Purchase in 2011, I drove it stock for a little bit, but then added the VP parts, overdrive gear, and the castle/tekin combo. It was nice, but still a handful on the rocks, and I could never get the suspension dialed in because I kept focusing on SCX10 builds. Well the castle/tekin combo stopped working and the Wraith just sat there.
No longer is that the case! Now back in action, with new Firma 60a esc with 2100kv sensored brushless motor, and 90mm Desert Lizard shocks. The servo needed an upgrade as well, so that was added. I still like the plastic AR60 housings as they just slide over the rocks.
Hope you all enjoy this overview of the 2024 rebuild of one of my favorite RCs, and up next we may just have to restore one of those SCX10s I was talking about earlier...

I’m late to the party lol.I bought the blue panel Spider Wraith several years ago and.Iv completely upgraded almost everything the only thing that’s still a wraith is the frame but I turned it into a fast back SSD metal axles driveshafts sway bar and the list goes on I’m always looking for ways to make it better I’ve always enjoyed taking from stock to finding ways to make it better even the driver and his steering wheel works well cut and made my own stainless steel panels the stock esc was replaced with a hobbywing 80 amp I don’t the gears but it’s will get up and go just finished adding a sway bar because of the torque kept pulling the front tires of the ground on the drivers side.Replaced the plastic stock shocks with some 90mm metal scale shocks ended up using the medium springs that came with the king shocks and filled them with 80 % shock oil took a while to get them tuned.Because I don’t have mountain trails. But I do have a ton of fun running it on the beach sealed bearings keeps the sand from eating up the gearsAnd it’s completely water proof so if the tide comes in while I’m in a trail in the sand it will keep going I didn’t program the esc to crawl but to run fast enough that I get a good workout and it’s set up for the sand that has all kinds of different types of hills holes and it’s not a smooth sanded beach but it’s a lot of fun

That sounds awesome, you’ve really pored loved into that rig. I can tell. Thanks for sharing all the mods and how you drive the rig for the community. I always enjoy hearing how different folks approach building out their rigs, and the Wraith is such a unique in my opinion , because it can do several different things.
