Great video. Plebe summer much improved over the decades. Glad to see there is some in-the-water training. Many decades ago (the 70's) the water around the Academy was strictly off-limits to all midshipmen.
As Cpl. Ray Person said in generation kill “We're like America's little pit bull. They beat it, starve it, mistreat it, and once in a while they let it out to attack somebody.”
Wonderful video! While I did not go to USNA, I was once a young person just like all of these volunteers. I cannot thank the USN for making me a better man, boss, employee, husband, enough. At entry to the USN, my character could have gone either direction. Looking back, I could say I was a "sub average American." Honor, Courage, Commitment was drilled into me, and I obeyed. I had an XO ask me "What is the definition of DUTY?" Knowing I didn't know the answer he said "Tasks one is BOUND to do. You have no choice!" While I didn't do a military career, the USN prepared me to be a better citizen of this country. A productive worker. A dad who raised my kids to honorable manhood. What these young folks don't know that is coming (I myself never saw it coming), is the future meeting a much older veteran, and you begin to talk. These meetings have mystical appeal to me as no matter the age difference, it was always like talking to a brother. You shared so many experiences. I have been so blessed to have met so many WWII vets over the years who put their arm on my shoulder and talked to me like a long lost friend. These young folks are not much different than I was at that age, but I am cheering them every step of the way! Just apply what the USN teaches you, and it will reward you so much.
I say the same thing about my USMC service, i went in at 21, i wasnt a bad kid, i just needed some direction and to grow up some more. The Marine Corps gave me that and a whole lot more, Im 51 now, and i aways tell kids who i meet that are maybe on the fence about going in the military, just do it, an enlistment is such a small part of your life, and even if u dont like it, you'll always get something from it...... I wouldnt trade my small 4 yr enlistment for the world, the only thing i would change is staying in longer, i made life long friends, learned a ton about myself and what im capable of, and got to see a little of the world, and how fortunate we as Americans are to live in this country....
Today's is the first time I watch this video in 2 years. When my nephew Cj 💙 started at the navy I got sick this day and pass out. It was a hot summer day in june 2022.I never see him again until August. I cry when I saw him.I will always continue to pray for him everyday 🙏 ❤ ♥ 💙
Always wanted to attend the USNA unfortunately for me I wasn't an American. I did served the US Navy for 6 years as an Enlisted. I attained a rank of E-6 and by my 3rd year I was an instructor in Great Lakes Naval Training Center. I salute all those served especially those lifers. I understand the sacrifices these people have to do to keep the USA and free loving nations safe.
@@arnoldmagnusson9553 "To join the U.S. military, non-citizens must be living permanently and legally in the United States. Non-citizens must also have permission to work in the United States, possess an I-551 (Permanent Residence Card), have obtained a high school diploma and speak English." - National Immigration Forum. Also the age limit for USNA caps out at 25, so that could potentially be a reason why.
I never attended the US Naval Academy. My entry point to the Navy was as an enlisted person. Our basic training (boot camp) involved tons of physical exertion as well as mental exertion. It's nice that in this video they do their calisthenics on a grass field. We did ours on a huge blacktop surface that was called "the grinder". The name was appropriate because the tough conditions could grind a person like meat. Again, the grinder surface was blacktop. The same surface material as a parking lot, no grass. I went through boot camp in the Summer, so the sun baked the blacktop surface. We had no gloves. Let's just say it was a long, hot Summer with no shade for cover. One last note, we were yelled at everyday. Profanity was used often in those communications at us. By the end of basic training, my company had been transformed from lackluster civilian teenage boys into razor sharp, focused young men.
@@christianmillhollon4481 it may be easy now, but it wasn't thirty plus years ago when I went through basic training. The physical requirements and demands back then were rigorous. I'm a Marine. I enlisted with the dream of going to OCS and become a USMC Officer, but it wasn't meant to be. This video is inspiring (even for the Navy😉 ). Thank you for sharing.
How old are you and are you still active duty? Are you a good Marine? Did you apply and take SATs? Do you know what MECEP is? It’s up to you to make it happen. I went to Annapolis as a Corporal with a sec nav nomination. You want it, fucking do it!

GO ARMY BEAT NAVY, or , GO NAVY BEAT ARMY, irregardless, having been both a Marine ( USMC, Department of the Navy) and a Soldier( US Army, Department of the Army), I AM glad for the existence of the 2 Service Academies, as well as USAFA, USCGA, and USMMA. Had I been smarter in Mathematics and English, after a Tour of Duty as an Enlisted Man, I would have gone the Officer route, via Annapolis or West Point.
