    i love the vintage peavey logo! to each their own, i suppose. this is a great video. i love my little peavey audition 30, it sounds great for recording because i can crank it and get cool tones. it has its own mojo. i never even thought of doing this! i’m excited to try it and mess with the saturation and EQ. Is This It? is one of my favorite albums and i somehow never knew this lmao thank you for sharing!
    and for recording effected vocals, i often plug a 58 with a 1/4 to XLR through my pedalboard directly into one of the tracks on my 414 and it works great, because then i can add distortion, delay, reverb or any other effects that i choose to put in the chain. it’s definitely not traditionally recommended, but i just like to experiment with everything i have, even if it doesn’t always turn out. i feel that singing through the effects makes me sing differently and sometimes, that’s what i want

    Awesome channel, man. I first got a 424 in the early 90's. My first time ever trying multi track recording. I was so broke, couldn't afford a mixer so I went to radio shack and looked at all of their adaptors. I bought two of those 2x1/4 one's and stacked them onto my drum channel input so I could plug in 3 mics at once. It was crazy the sound I got just by placing the 3 mics around the drums and going for it. Pro tip ! haha

    Thanks Mike, I really liked distorted vocals on Fall Forever, and its nice to know how that sound was achieved.
    also I have couple questions:
    1. Will 424 tascam be used during recording of your album?
    2. Will Fall Forever be on the album? will Makin that Cheddar be on the album? :)
    3. Can you add effect pedal(like Fuzz) to the vocal signal? would it be too distorted?

      1. I’m at a point with the recording where I just want to get it done so I might stick with Logic this time around.
      2. FF for sure, MTC was released as a single under my rapper alias, Myke Drop.
      3. You can do anything you want! Fuzz would be cool. I never think anything can be too distorted... depends on your preference and taste 🎃

    I recorded the vocals to a lot of my songs by a similar method. I have one of those solid state Peavey guitar amps and they're badass. Only exception I mic'd the amp with my vocals coming through and it still sounded good. Do you recommend that method? It worked for me.

    SM58 mic has a neodymium element. It will accentuate your low end a bit more than a standard 58. Also, better off access rejection. Side note: all true hypercardioid mics have a neodymium element.

    • @424Recording
      @424Recording  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do you mean the Beta58 = neodymium? I always dug the 58 on my vocals and the Beta feels like the next natural extension. Highly recommended to anyone who likes 58s for their vocals

    • @demofactory
      @demofactory 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I meant Beta58. My oops. The secret sign for a neodymium element is the blue ring around the mic. All the Shure Beta mics have it, and they all have neodymium elements. A bunch of other manufacturers have also adopted the blue ring, some are using it nefariously, so always read the specs before purchasing. Shure mics=sure thing!!!.

    • @424Recording
      @424Recording  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Im trying to use this technique to record some heavily distorted vocals, but im having trouble getting feedback and a noisy hum when im not singing, any tips?

    • @424Recording
      @424Recording  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you using headphones? You could also try noise gating the signal. Or lower the volume going to the recording interface, and raise it in post. I imagine there will be a hum given the nature of the sound but I was able to do it without feedback with headphones. Just don't take the headphones off without lowering the volume first!

  • @tomvice
    @tomvice 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    So to record to daw: mic > pre > peavy > headphone out > audio interface in? yo don't need to mic it?

    • @424Recording
      @424Recording  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup. No need to mic the amp. It's like using a guitar direct in vs miking a guitar amp. You could mic the amp if you wanted to get some room sound and the speaker pushing some air but there's really no need to do. Just add some reverb in post if you want that sound.

      hey mike, so im looking at a 424 for sale on ebay "for parts". hes selling it for parts for a couple reasons, one he doesnt have the power supply and then ill quote what else he said-
      "It was powering up fine and played, probably 3 years ago, the last time I used it. However I do remember having an issue with some muddy recordings the last time I used it, but no one fixed them anymore, so I bought a digital recorder. It could be something as simple as the heads need to be demagnetized and cleaned, or it could be something more"
      cosmetically its in great condition. its going for 60 bucks. so do you think its worth taking the risk with no returns? could this "muddy sound" be something irreparable? what would you do?

    • @424Recording
      @424Recording  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      bill jim tough to say. I think the big no on this one is the lack of power supply. They are hard to come by. A lot of factors re: muddy recordings. Could be the heads, tape, user error etc. I would pass but it’s up to you
