95% of the time i am fishing perdigons on all of our rivers, and it's interesting that you mention that bead change. All it takes it a bit of extra flash for them to re-actively strike, I find that's the case on many other river systems in the state when spring rolls around. Charlie if you see this, try a black titanium bean head as well, sometimes that dark flash turns them on as well. Had a big brown break the tip off a 4wt rod on the Ark last year. Fishing with Charlie is like fishing with cheat codes lol.
Charlie, do you have any recollection of Ed Valdez golden stonefly he used to tie and sell out of his shop on the Arkansas river?? i used to fish them but can't remember how they were tied. thanks in advance, Norm Frechette

It’s super deadly and caught fish all over. And no it’s not a jig style fly. Actually surprised umpqua didn’t add it to their catalog but I sent it to late so something along those lines.
Well years ago I got hooked on the fishing around Salida on the Ark. I out did a famous fly fishing author in Colorado and become the first mtf transgender trout bum, stoner, barfly, streamer thrower living above the infamous Victoria Tavern just to fish the Ark everyday I wanted to. The Ark kills people every year. Don’t be stupid about how dangerous the wade fishing can be….even in low water.
Nothing to see here, move along. 😇 I was SHOCKED last summer seeing the ginormous fish that would chase my streamer. 😮 And truth, I WOULD NOT pick a fight with Larry. Big old farm boy.🥺
Agreed. I’ve floated it, waded it, fell in it and walked on it like Jesus himself No fish. Dirty water. When you do see fish they’re carp and suckers. Some day maybe they can fix it.
