  • With unfinished cars left to rust on the production line (top right) and paperwork (bottom right) lying scattered in the empty shell of the factory, these eerie photographs show a famous MG Rover plant where time has stalled. Production at the Longbridge plant in Birmingham was massively scaled back after MG Rover collapsed in 2005 - meaning that the factory has been almost entirely unused over the past decade. The owners of MG Motor confirmed last week that the West Midlands factory has completely stopped assembling cars after almost a century of on-off production. Haunting images show how the derelict site has been deserted, with body shells of the Rover 75 left abandoned and personal items gathering dust in the empty offices. The images are a sharp contrast to the bustling pictures from the factory's hey-day in 1979 (inset) when the plant employed 25,000 workers.

Sad to think it’s all gone. Such a loss to the UK.

Not sure of the point of the video since it uses footage taken sometime in either 99 or 2000, this was not following MG Rover's collapse in April 2005. The cars in storage were just as Rover revised them for the switch from 200/400 to 25/45 - this was just about whilst still in BMW's ownership. Video title gives impression this was how Mg Rover looks years after it closed - this is false.

This is not 2005 but early 2000s, pre facelift cars and the multistorey car park still there (demolished 2003 ish from memory). Also that was rover dispatch where all the cars are parked, awaiting lorries. Lies like this is what helped to kill rover.

Looks like 2005(ish). All of the buildings are still there. There footage would be taken with a camera mounted RC helicopter rather than a "Drone".

I'll say 2004 as this was when rover was still around as there was a waiting list to buy a car

I would say earlyer then 2004 because i see only pre facelift models and the parking house near main gate has also gone in the early 2000‘s

@@Rod54Am I worked in that yard when the first metros came out, taking them up to alison st in birmingham to store them under the railway arches.

I think it’s either 1998 or 1999, as there are Rover 200s in the car park, and also Rover 75s
