No.
Iwakuni is on mainland Japan.
Okinawa is an island south of Japan.
The area is about 60% different. Mainland is more upbeat and modern where as Oki is like the South. Oki has lots of farms and vegetation and is not as developed like mainland.
I was in Japan 20 years ago and there was a huge difference between being in Japan and being in the states. Japan we really had no 96s, not many marines had cars, and they were much more strict on us

pacom was nice, but couldn't travel because of command. and make it worse back in 16-18 when that marine killed that local, straight up imprisoned in the barracks makes u wish u we're in palms.
The language barrier tends to be a MAJOR divider. I've lived or been stationed in the US, UK, Germany, and Korea. While it's still overseas, being in the UK was very different from the other overseas places because you're still speaking English. There are still cultural differences, but you can still easily go into town and do just fine like you would, stateside. Germany was more challenging due to the different language, but the use of the same alphabet made it a little easier.
But in Asia, where you not only have a different language but a different alphabet and form of writing, it can feel VERY isolated because it's more difficult to venture off on your own even if you do have a vehicle. You rely much more heavily on someone else being able to translate things for you.

@@AONIXO Ah, yes. I can see that being a big help. (Last time I was stationed overseas, we didn't even have smartphones, so translation was done with those pocket-sized books.)

Correct me if I'm wrong. I think the biggest difference is that marines rape more in Okinawa than at Camp Lejune or Pendleton. I'm pretty sure that is the biggest difference between being stationed overseas versus the US. Other than that it's the same.
