Sunday nights in Stanley back in the early 80's - game of pool and a couple of drinks in The Hill Top, then off to The Hunt for the late night disco. The DJ there was brilliant. Good times.....
Thank you for finding the remaining beautiful Victorian stone buildings that I remember from my childhood even though the cheap shop fronts appear to dominate ...there is still a chance to bring back some history. At Joseph’s Church standing intact and even older brick walls bring me home again. My father’s space tucked under the happy Card shop at least still has foundations. How extraordinary the powerful County directors have not recognised this wonderful place just needed support rather than useless change. I will pray for a saviour of the wonderful mining communities that I grew up with from 1935 till now
Grew up in Stanley, left in 2008. The imperial hotel (the clock) and the top house were always jam packed at weekend when I used to drink there in the late 90s. Great times. Shame it’s all closed now. Thanks for the vid 👌
Grew up around Stanley,I left 20+ years ago.some good people in Stanley and surrounding areas, shame the place is so run down, waste of a main street.I remember as a child buses and cars going up and down,a busy town one time .

@@GazzBassfusion It is sad to see, I'm lucky enough to remember Stanley as it was too. Hopefully something changes but I don't know how it can to be honest. Thank you for watching. Take care.
The boarded-up Stanley Hotel (the Top House) has since been refurbished and reopened. It remains the sole surviving pub in Stanley town centre where there once used to be six
@@UKHIGHDEFINITIONWALKS West Stanley Board School is due for demolition anytime soon, so it may be worth getting further footage of that. I look forward to your forthcoming vid
the labour run council who have been in charge for decades have chased us all away. labour run down everywhere they operate, unless its full of muslims
@@UKHIGHDEFINITIONWALKS I've always liked Stanley, the place and the people. The dinners in the Clock (the Imperial) when Mr.Pendelton had it where legendary. The Essoldo cinema, the old market hall where you could buy pet rabbits and kittens, the music stall sold guitars, sheet music, the latest records. Doggarts store, there used to be independant shops on both sides of Front Street. Council Offices Boarded up and looking delapidated .My late father was Chief Financial Officer (Treasurer) of Stanley Uban District Council from 1945- 1974. He'd turn in his grave if he could see it now.

Wish I could remember when it was a busy little town. It’s sad seeing it the way it is. Thanks for commenting and watching.

Great vlog . Look forward to the next one 😊
Thanks so much! 😊
How sad to see my hometown like this. When I lived there in 90s it was a busy frontstreet. 😢😢😢

The front street where I go and chase the millions of pigeons that are always there😂😂

Thank you for letting me know. That’s good to hear. I will have to do an update.
@@UKHIGHDEFINITIONWALKS Your update will be welcome! You might include the Leisure Centre, Asda, Station Road & St Andrews Church on Church Bank
I’ll make sure to include that end of Stanley. Thanks for watching. ☺️

What were the 6 pubs ??
Only thing missing was the TUMBLEWEEDS rolling down the street and people of course .how do you run a business when there are no customers?
It must be very difficult. Especially with Amazon prime and stuff like that the, big cooperations don’t help do they.
the labour run council who have been in charge for decades have chased us all away. labour run down everywhere they operate, unless its full of muslims
So sad when you think it was a thriving little town. It's now had the life sucked out of it 😢. Again lack of investment
I remember it while it was still lively. I’m 30 now so can just about remember when the market was still on.
What day in the week/time did you do this?
Around February/march time on a Friday afternoon.
@@UKHIGHDEFINITIONWALKS ta, thanks mate
If county durham gets any bleaker africa will launch an appeal to help us 🤣😂
🤣🤣🤣
Afghanistanley
🤣
The Empire is now isolationist. Why poke your neighbours in the eye, when they are your customers? Who is driving the policies that lead to this?
What a shame
I agree.
